    I just purchased the Manix 2 in S110V and Maxamet. I am seeing many mixed reviews on Maxamet and thinking the S110V is the one to keep and send back the Maxamet version. Good video.

    FRCP is an acronym for Fiberglass Reinforced Co-Polymer. Similar to FRN, glass fibers are mixed with a co-polymer (instead of nylon). The handles of the knives that feature FRCP as material are made by injection molding which allows to produce large quantities easily.

    Kinda trippy, i have 2 manix knives, and its those exact two you have, i use the hell out of the light weight, hold up so well, kinda just let the foliage green one lay dormant in the collection tho, love the cts-xhp but baby it for whatever reason

    I like that blade centering trick! You should deff put up a video on tips/tricks.

    After using this knife for a while - I think the S110 steel rocks!!! Very sharp and holds it's edge.

  • @CoffeeAndSteel
    @CoffeeAndSteel 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    S110V has a very large carbide volume. From my use, and others data, it will prefer a toothy edge.
    Look forward to your thoughts.

    I've heard stories about people dropping these from over 100ft and it didn't break. FRN is pretty much the ultimate EDC handle material.

    Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! buy another one and take it apart! I am really interested in buying my own manix 2 with S110V and disassembling it to put the blade in a carbon fiber manix 2 handel.

    Nice review! I just recently picked up an older used Manix2 LW (the previous model with trans blue FRCP and CTS-BD1 steel). Got a screamin' good deal on it and figured I'd use it as a test bed to see if I liked the format before jumping on the S110V version. Gotta say... I'm diggin' it.

    I'd love to see stress tests on the FRN. That would be a great video. Maybe you could see how flame resistant, chemical resistant, cold resistant, etc.

    • @kamikazekunze

      Definitely....ferric acid resistant.

    Nice review bro. Had the bd1 steel light weight. Sold it off on a whim. I agree that it doesn't feel cheap. Just lightweight. Might have to pick up the s110. By the way, love the background !!

  • @OLMmedic
    @OLMmedic 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Randy, sup brudha. Do you think the cage ball lock or the compression lock is a better lock and which will last longer. Forget lightweight or anything else. Just talking the lock itself. Thanks

  • @TheBroberts1986
    @TheBroberts1986 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Dad the early ones in cts bd-1 with pinned pivot. Sold but sorely missed. Liked it more than the para 2 actually.come to love the cage ball lock way more than the comparsion.

    • @frederickj.7136
      @frederickj.7136 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed... though the lock release mechanism on both can be rather uncomfortable or awkward to activate reliably. This factor doesn't get near enough criticism, relatively speaking.

  • @AkaiShizuku
    @AkaiShizuku 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I cut everything with my S110V Manix LW as well. I find that cardboard will be very hard on even this steel, but even that could not completely dull it. The lock is very strong and the ergonomics are great but the knife weighs nothing. I'm extremely impressed with not just the steel but the knife as a whole. I don't think there is a better production knife out there.

    hi,i just got my native 5 LW-FRN handles,and at some point would like to replace them with G10 as its screwed together not pined,but like you ! must find the time,BTW are we the only ones thinking of doing this!enjoyed you video.

    • @frederickj.7136
      @frederickj.7136 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Spyderco's typical, standard G10 is cheap and dull looking, with strictly utilitarian aesthetics; and it's a dirt magnet, as patterned. Ugh! Maybe you can find better aftermarket stuff. The G10 on a coated VG-10 Camillus sailor's folder I recently picked up on sale for $18 online puts Spyderco's G10 to shame. Really.

  • @Traderjoe
    @Traderjoe 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Randy, which would you say is the stronger lock, cage ball or compression? If you could chose 1 knife, this or Para 2, which would you prefer? Both are USA and both full flat. But this has the s110 and the Para2 the s30v..?

  • @sjsj5542
    @sjsj5542 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    I believe s110v is so rich in carbides they can group together, I've been holding on for a nice sprint run to experience s110v and how it sharpens

  • @christapherdane
    @christapherdane 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    I pre-ordered and missed the first run. FINALLY got the second run. I expect the second run to run out before they do their third run.

    This is a regular production knife. I have one on the way. I have not decided if I like the G10 better than the FRN on my Spydercos - I have both. FRN is lighter and more grippy. The G10 feels more substantial, but heavy and not as sure gripped.

  • @Traderjoe
    @Traderjoe 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Also, did it come with the rounded spine or did you round it?

    hi solo, I have a manix 2, black g10 scales. satin blade, full flat grind but the stainless liners aren't skelentenized, I got it from midway.com. the box and everything I've read about spyderco would indicate that it's authentic but the liners are throwing me off. any answers as to the authenticity of this knife?

  • @joshvaldez9234

    I got one the first day it came out. And have been edc ING it since. Cannot say enough good things about it. Been trying to talk my non knife friends into getting one of these. Such a great steel of a deal. For some reason to me it is easy er to sharpen then s90v. I haven't reprofiled it yet. Came at 15 dps. But I did give it a really good looking polish. Love the light weight. You can Carrie it with gym shorts or pajama pants no problem. And stays wicked sharp. To me allot longer than s90v. I have a cf manix 2 also and debating on selling it. Just cause I don't Caire it. The week end after next spyderco is haveing there seconds sale. Let me know if your looking at something new. And maybe we can work out a trade for some work?

  • @calebgreen4150
    @calebgreen4150 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    It would be interesting to see the strength of FRN. I know that the manix lightweights has FRCP so it's a polymer not a nylon.. Probably not much difference though..

      @dave3gs 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      pmprydr That sounds awesome. I have both, but would that work?

    • @B_Dizzle
      @B_Dizzle 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Archangel absolutly, just take the pivot screw out of the S110v and slide the blade out and then you can either fully disassemble the g10 version or just do the samething. You will have to hold the ball lock back when sliding back in.

    • @dave3gs
      @dave3gs 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I picked this knife over the para 2 when I went on vacation to Co. this last spring. Mostly it was the feel in hand that sold me. It was my first Spydie and since then have picked up the newer black G10 version Manix with the S30V ffg. Love them both!

    I find it too wide in the pocket for a "comfortable edc" otherwise I would carry the Manix or the Sage 3 all the time...

    • @frankmarino8566
      @frankmarino8566 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's how I feel about the G10 Manix, but not the LWT versions.I know that the profile is the same but the LWT is much thinner and is only 3 ounces. It disappears in my pocket just as good as Delica, BM707 size EDC's and I can fit my cell phone etc. with it no problem. It's especially great during the hot months, when I carry lighter all around. Great benefit to have a robust, strong 3.5 inch EDC with a super steel. Have you tried the LWT versions??

    I just noticed on my new military that the grind is mismatched as well. Where the grind starts above the hole is about a mm and a half off from each other. I hope this doesn't bug me too bad.

      These days, there really isn't an excuse for this at Spyderco's price points. I can sympathize completely.

  • @trubadyr99
    @trubadyr99 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Any actual cutting tests, though? Looks very good, but how well it performs, holds its edge? Can you take it apart, or at least adjust a pivot tencion? Beat it up, and show the process to us. If it stands up to the challenge I think the manufacturer could probably compensate for the knife and more. Please in a future: take care of your nasal cavities prior to shooting: othervice your video and audio quality are fine. Thumbs up!

    Prob worth mentioning the uncomfortable handle with sharp as fuck corners

    • @zosonte129
      @zosonte129 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Totally subjective, other people love the handle

    • @bonesjones1658
      @bonesjones1658 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol bitch hands.. My hands are ugly and calloused, but thats besides the point. The handle has square corners. That may help with how it sits in pocket, but objectively that doesnt sound comfortable. And it didnt feel comfortable. It seems the reason it's squared is so they could skeletonize the inside of the FRCP scales without affecting the structural integrity at all. Contouring them would create thinner, weak areas. So I get that. But I also acknowledge it feels like a lego. Idk anyone who "loves" the handle, but the people that like it - well, I'm betting they would like it a whole lot more if it was able to be contoured.

    • @danielweaver2615

      Love the handle

    • @danielweaver2615

    • @frederickj.7136
      @frederickj.7136 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely no issues here -- my BEST in hand Spyderco... instant love. In no sensible way, "sharp as fuck" [sic]: that is just histrionic nonsense. The Sage 1, by contrast -- no fewer than four major & minor hot spots in *my* hand before even starting to think of putting the knife to work. A deal breaker for me... so there you go.
      I'm just fine with the somewhat blocky Native 5 LW, as well, one that a few have criticized for not being radiused enough along the edges of the grip. Mostly, they know what they're doing there at Spyderco.

  • @Chingus696
    @Chingus696 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    You don't have to use Diamond to sharpen this blade steel and you probably shouldn't use diamond to sharpen any knife. Don't believe the hype! Diamond plates don't last and they're not needed.

    If your going to work a fiber glass co polymer so hard that you think it might break then you bought the wrong knife to begin with. Buy a fixed blade and beat the hell out of it.
