It's amazing how paint can transform the atmosphere of a space. My childhood home had honey oak everywhere, and growing up my mom favoured buttery yellow wall colours that only accentuated the yellow/orange glow... she repainted last year in soft white and a lavender-y grey and oh my word, looks like an entirely new space. Beautiful!

I just got my first house and I've spent the last month trying to decide paint colours! I've finally settled on an off-white that suits the grey floors, but this video was super helpful for the rooms that won't be off-white! The master bedroom is rather plain, so I think I'll add some wainscoting and paint the bottom half in a nice relaxing colour. Keep up the great work! THANK YOU JULIE! I’m in the middle of a whole house gut with our downsize retirement house. I started off really wanting what I call “schoolhouse oak floor” with mid-cent slab natural cherry cabs and I’m actually having trouble getting these materials or even MDF. But the tiles are plentiful and gorgeous. Bought a color reader to help in the process and I’m losing my mind.

There’s no real formula Inna! Check my how to mix metals video and you’ll see a ton of different woods mixed in. It’s all about your aesthetic and if you like low/high contrast. I’ll see if I can work out a video in the future 👍🏻☺️

I have Mahogany trim and floors and omg... it's like every color looks good paired with it. It could be because I'm a neutral earth tone type of girl. I'm not really trying to tone it down. More like make it pop. I did black in my bedroom and I'm in love!

This is the most beautiful coordination of wood tones I"ve ever ever seen . You have certainly researched your coordination of beauty in a magnificent way .
There is a gift in this . I have a gift for appreciating Sages & Hunter Green with Red Oak and a new appreciation.for mixing Golden Oak with a small amount of Special Walnut . ( omly if it it can coordinate ) .

I haven't finished the entire video yet, so maybe you cover this - if we have honey oak ceilings and we're choosing wood floors, are there better and worse wood tones to go with so our walls can work with the ceiling and the floor? I'm so glad I found your channel before we spend so much redoing everything in our new house!
If you love the warmer/ yellow tones, go for something similar and help it all come together through your furnishings and decor Sonya. If you don’t love the honey oak, go for something cooler and contrasting.

I had all new windows put in including a large southern facing custom bay window in my kitchen to install a grow rack. The color choice was dark walnut on the inside and chocolate brown on the outside followed by crisp white siding with chocolate brown trim. I inverted the idea of others who choose a color siding and have all white windows. As an artist, I see it easier to look out a window with a dark trim than looking out one with an all white trim. I like the idea of dark walls with base board trim and crown molding in dark walnut. For those who say it makes a room look small, I say with ambient lighting, it makes a room feel homey. I don’t like white, it hurts my eyes. I’ve yet to do the interior of my house, the walls and floors...but I really want hardwood floors and wooden walls, it sounds easier to clean than white walls and tan carpeting, and far more interesting. I believe it would add value to my house if I must sell. Opinions?
I never thought about that detail regarding dark trim, but you’re absolutely right! Less competition with a beautiful view when the color is not stark white! 🙌🏻

I loved this video. I am trying to decide between going darker colors or stay with light. I have a smallish shape living room which is 25 feet by 6 feet. I was thinking of doing one wall dark and the rest lighter. Any ideas on which is best?
Whichever you find highlights your furniture best Debbie. Either tonal colors or high contrast, think about which palette you feel more inspired by 👍🏻☺️

Julie-I feel like I’m taking a college course on interior design which I’ve always wanted. Thank you so much for your videos!!! How do you feel about mixing wood stains. Our kitchen island and stair rails will be an alder stain (warm brown), and flooring is a mix of blond, brown and dark wood. The dining room table we are attracted to is large and walnut. 😐

Oh my, these homes you’re showing are very nice, spacious beautiful homes lol. We just bought a house that isn’t spacious like these, and our furniture is from the 90s golden oak. The living room is smallish and a bright blue nightmare. The cabinets in the kitchen actually match our furniture and I think they’re beautiful lol. We don’t have the money to replace all our furniture and don’t want to anyway but these pictures are making me feel so inadequate!😂 I love my new little home though and I did pick up that anything yellowish is a no-no. I was thinking just a beige or maybe a vey light green sage with the white trim or something, but I can’t get beyond just the no yellowish tones paint🤷♀️😂
What happens if there’s more than 1 wood? Most of ours is the golden oak but there’s a really dark piece of wood running the length of the ceiling that I really like, it just doesn’t match golden oak lol.
What doesn’t bother you can become a beautiful, unique detail Em. I would focus on the wall paint since none of the furniture or cabinetry is going anywhere 👍🏻☺️
