I love my midwest rails and have had no issues with any. Mine are the ones specifically sold as 'lightweight' combat rails btw. Same deal with Aero S-One. They are lightweight rails, but I've loaded up a 14" with lots of NVG stuff for a long time and have never had zero shift. Another thing I would point out is the design of the MI with the holes running just under the top picatinny allows zip-tying of cables. It SUCKS to deal with cables on a rail without them. The only genuine dud of a rail I've ever had was early on when I cheaped out and got an AR Stoner lightweight one.
If it’s good now, leave it alone. I have two of the quad rail varieties and have stripped the helicoils out of the rail on one rendering it unusable because of a piece of steel wire.
@@Cloture.q Lol helicoils are just fine, it's a you problem. Helicoils are FAA approved for aviation repairs and are rated to be at least as secure as traditional threading thanks to its mechanical press fit design. When properly installed, the host material will fail long before the helicoil does. We've used them on everything from crank case covers and head bolts to industrial and heavy equipment. The beauty of helicoils is that they are easily replaced and they give you a lot more options than tapping/thread milling, especially in aluminum which is notorious for stretching threads and fatigue under proper torque values. You either over torqued or cross threaded your helicoil. You can drill the old helicoil out at size and replace it in a matter of minutes for a few dollars, something you cannot say that about traditionally threaded pockets that would need to be oversized or replaced with a helicoil anyway.
@@apersonontheinternet8006 I can assure you that the helicoils on mine aren’t “fine”. I dont see how FAA approval means anything, I’d just like my rail to stay on, but that might be asking too much because, ya know, they’re used on space ships so they must be good! My helicoils failed and the threads are still good, so I guess they weren’t installed correctly from the factory, which begs the question, why not try to reduce points of failure with something more secure similar to any other manufacturers steel-on-steel designs. Or hell, maybe even a threaded insert?
@@Cloture.q You can assure me of whatever you would like, I'm a master millwright and machinist that has worked on things you can't even imagine. Everything from turbines for powerplants, ships, and jets; high performance race cars; multimillion dollar industrial equipment; and have machined two of the largest pieces of waspaloy ever manufactured with no test piece. Your threaded insert idea would end up exactly like your helicoil did because you over torqued it. The difference is that you would have to heat seat your insert which is more involved than a helicoil, and frankly sometimes not possible. Even a traditionally threaded pocket has a finite lifespan even when properly torqued, especially in aluminum. Every time you properly retorque that fastener you are stretching the threads. I don't care what you don't understand, I'm telling you how it is. It is a you problem.

Q, noveske, griffin, battle arms development, san tan tactical, slr, at3, radian, aero, blackout defense, vltor, solgw, jl billet, v seven, type a, and hb industries I believe all these are missing.
In my opinion the aero enhanced should rank much higher. As you said, for what it is designed to do, I think it is hard to beat. It would be better if it was higher grade Al, but it would also be pricier. Seekins precision said in their own promo video for their own system that bedding the barrel vs not, pinning gas blocks versus not, no matter what they did in all their testing for improving accuracy of the system, nothing worked as well for them as when they truly free floated the handguard and attached it to the upper rather than the barrel nut. So seeing as aero built a really beefy upper extension and uses large screws to secure the handguard, I think they did what they set out to do. Obviously I think it could be improved, but it is available all the time from tons of vendors in multiple colors and lengths and affordable for a proprietary system. I think they should have stepped down the diameter after the attachment section but the wide diameter is good for keeping your hand away from the radiant heat from the barrel. I think they should have done 7 sided mlok, and I think they should have given more clearance to the pic rail so it would accept any attachment. But it flexes less when put under load then the cmt, the kak, even then the geissele mk16. So it doesn't contact the barrel nut and it flexes less than many S tier options, it's affordable and available, and sgt of arms makes a version with seven sided mlok and an arca rail on the bottom. As far as options for high value precision guns I think it's the best we got. I think they should have made the rail more like cobalt kinetics style, but I think it some respects it's better than the LWRC. For instance, seekins also said that even if you attach the handguard to the upper, you still need more material in that region or else that region is flexible, and Aero has far more material there then LWRC, that aero extension is a big chungus, but it is lighter than many s tier options at the same time. So better harmonics, more overbuilt extension, less flex on the handguard, lighter, and basically the cheapest proprietary option while simultaneously being the easiest to get in the most length options. Idk, I think it is a high S tier option and imo where ar15s should go generally. I would love if the aero enhanced upper became the new standard and other companies made handguards for it, I think that would be ideal, or I wish aero would improve their design by making it step down and then mimic the geissele and cmt profile after the proprietary extension with an arca and no arca bottom option, but it's still what I'm going to build my 16" proof research 6 arc gun with as well as my 20" proof 6.5 creedmoor with. I would also take it over my geissele upper and handguard for my 11.5, as it, like my KAC sr15 14.5, both get very hot after a lot of shooting, and I think the extra standoff of the rail from the barrel would help with that. I also want the accuracy improvements it offers even in my 11.5. You can never have a gun that is too accurate or a handguard that is too rigid, even on an sbr.
Carbon because it’s more comfortable in hot and cold conditions, super lightweight and different. Not a fan of most carbon handguards but there are a couple of them out there that are pretty nice. Would it be my first pick of duty built? Nope?
The ris ii …. You have that plate that goes over you upper receiver threads, it has anti rotation tabs in that plate . Your barrel nut cranks down tight against the plate locking it into the upper. The topmost part of the rail is held in with 4 bolts near the receiver going towards the handguard , the bottom most part fits up in then locked in by 2 bolts near the receiver going towards the upper basically reverse to the other 4 bolts. The sides then get the screws to hold the top to the bottom. I have an ohhunt ris ii clone and a brownells mk18 urg, and the lockup is absolutely incredible. And you say it’s for the free float grenade launcher, but it’s crazy functional and rigid (not to mention that vibe you get 😉) She heavy tho I will say that
Buying a DD rail outright for 500 bucks is probably the most smoothbrain thing someone could do, especially when Brownells sells DD URGs with CHF+CL Socom barrels AND the rail. Centurion was not mentioned, however. Fantastic rails, especially at 240 for their 15in rail. Meanwhile, I'm still over here simping for the original Geissele 416-SMR.
@@ALovelyBunchOfDragonballz the ohhunt ris ii clones are very comparable to the real thing. I have one on a block2ish m4 (I did have to modify the bayonet lug) and a brownells mk18 urg. They are almost exact in lock up and rigidity. Plus they are affordable!

Can we stop having this Radio Autist guy on? He adds nothing besides background noise and getting up 5 times per stream. Guy does not have a sound environment to run a livestream from. Even for a youtube livestream in handguards he is extremely unprofessional.
I love how he just ignores whatever disturbances are going on like we all will not notice. Phone humming, young child screaming, random audio glitches, distracted eye contact and conversations with people offscreen, and through it all he comes back to staring blankly at the monitor like nothing happened. Tripp even had to point out it was HIS phone that was vibrating. It's at most a 2-hour (usually less) stream once a week, and he can't get his wife to look after their child for even that long. On top of that, he takes zero accountability when he screws up, as when he repeatedly fails every stream to simply upload the product images ("I know I uploaded that!"). Finally, he confidently engages in a lot of speculative "I think" statements that 1. could be confirmed or disproven with a simple 5-second online search using the keyboard at his fingertips, and 2. are almost always incorrect. He speculates on things he knows nothing about while assuming a "trust me, bro" attitude. It's so disappointing to tune in and see just Tripp alone for a few seconds before he mentions that the autistic guy will be joining them shortly after he gets done doing whatever he should already have done well before the stream started. I have nothing against the guy except that all of his issues can be fixed simply by not being lazy and by underscoring to his wife his need to have a couple of hours alone and unbothered each week.

Yall really did PRI dirty, lol. They’re pretty lightweight without rails. A 3” rail section weighs 1.1oz, about .36oz per inch of rail section. 1.1 divided by 3=.36. They’re also not that expensive if you get the versions with no rail attachment holes or vent holes. Which you could DIY, just ask PRI how to do it. They said to drill a small hole then use one of those cone drill bits.
@focustripp , I got a question. I was looking into getting a spare BCG just to have on hand and wanted a microbest. I noticed PSA sells a PSA branded microbest BCG... is the QC done by microbest before they send it to PSA? Pretty much just want your opinion on it... I'm weary of buying it b/c of the PSA branding...

They touched ever so slightly, and it bothered me so I sawed off half an mlok on the 12 o’clock and it free floats now. Super light. Low gas. Perfect for suppressed home defense. Who’s putting nods on in a real home invasion anyway…
I have ran the faxon carbon fiber handguard for a few years now, and yeah it's on a lightweight gpr build (no nv stuff). What i have found to be nice is during multiple range days over the years in 90-100+ degree weather, i don't need gloves to hold on to my rifle/handguard, even tho the rifle is baking in the sun, or hot from multiple strings of fire.
I heard red hand guards give you an extra 50 f/s of velocity
Have the Aero Enhanced Quad set up, it's solid! Have the BCM, it's never coming apart.. crazy tight!
I had the Aimsports on a build when I was poor. And it worked fine, no issues with the inserts.
Great content. Thanks
Dude, Radio Autist constant audio issues' make these so hard to watch.
He's stepping away from the live shows.
While looking to confirm my choice I come across a video on how my handguard sucks. Thanks Jon.
Glad to help.
Q, noveske, griffin, battle arms development, san tan tactical, slr, at3, radian, aero, blackout defense, vltor, solgw, jl billet, v seven, type a, and hb industries I believe all these are missing.
Can’t believe y’all didn’t rank the YHM or Troy handguards! Both have been around for decades lol.
And you say it’s for the free float grenade launcher, but it’s crazy functional and rigid (not to mention that vibe you get 😉)
She heavy tho I will say that
A surplus ras/ris unless you paying clone prices for some reason is a winner on tiers. Cheap and work.
Every part of me except my wallet wants to throw a RIS II rail on my rifle. I want to be able to free float a grenade launcher that I'll never own 😂
@@ALovelyBunchOfDragonballz the ohhunt ris ii clones are very comparable to the real thing. I have one on a block2ish m4 (I did have to modify the bayonet lug) and a brownells mk18 urg. They are almost exact in lock up and rigidity. Plus they are affordable!
MI Night Fighter is underrated. Beefy rail with a sizeable barrel nut.
"the aero m4 handguard is 2" thick and I don't think some people will like that"
Yes, some people like their hands to be as close to the hot barrel as possible
Any experience with the utg pro mlok version?
@@blueeyeddevil1 I mean did you see his kid? He clearly makes 80 IQ decisions as a habit.
PSA Sabre line has 1-2 rails that are very similar to geissle rails. Has anit rotation tabs, steel locking screws, steel qd insert with m lok.
You know they use Geissele rails for some of the sabre rifles right? Those are actual G rails…
@@MarkWurzler Yes i know im talking about the sabre line of rails they have. I beleive one is called the, qdsm M4 rail.
@@TheCamaro5 he actually went over those.
@@trulsrohk1 the psa ones? I must have missed it
Have you messed with the cold hammer forged BCA barrels? Great video
Not yet.
X2Dev Group has the most INSANE warranty on the Light Fighter ive ever seen. Free upgrades for LIFE.
I havent tried many rails but I was getting my mk14 rails for less than $150 a few years ago and they included the geisele gas block. ive got 5 uppers with mk14s of different lengths. S-tier in my opinion.
I lucked out hard and caught 2 MK4 Fed rails on blemish sale, and one was the older, original style of MK4 Fed which is 10" but has a shorter bottom rail like the normal MK4.
Very informative. Thanks for the share!!
Some company needs to make a handguard that has quad rails, mlok, keymod, sling mounts, and enough clearance to shroud a suppressor. That would look great on my Meme AR with underfolder AK stock!
The real joke here is Bendy Bill's shit getting S tier
Thanks for the info the midwest industries. I was contemplating getting one of those. But my build is for an "end of world" build.
JAG composites makes a pretty nice (expensive) carbon handguard that fits on the Aero Enhanced uppers. No first hand experience but I've thought about trying one.
Blk lbl made a sick SD handguard for 1.75” tubes… that made more sense to me than the bipod hdgrd
Have the utg quad rail 9". Love it. Love how it looks and feels. Looks so mean.
The 6061/6065 thing is because the rails start as extrusions its really hard to extrude 7071/7075
The thing about BCA always had bad assembly but the product itself is pretty good
The AERO enhanced handguards are forged 7075 T6 aluminum. I have big hands so I like em.
Product description on their website says 6061
@@oKlyjmvnkbZ_iwSi_tEZ0w for me it is telling me 7075. Maybe the gen 2 enhanced is different type of aluminum
@@oKlyjmvnkbZ_iwSi_tEZ0w From their website I got this:
Enhanced Upper Receiver Features:
M4 Feedramps
.250 takedown pin holes
Lazer engraved T-marks
Comes assembled, with dust cover and forward assist installed
Machined from 7075-T6 forged aluminum
That's the upper, not the handguard.
Love Midwest as a company and like their scope mounts (although I wish they’d put the QD levers on the other side), but I’ve had issues with every one of their handguards (4) I’ve had.
What issues have you had?
@@strappinheat4146 bent anti rotation tabs, handguard flex, handguard rotation (due to clamp/tension force not being tight enough even though torqued to spec, then above spec). Just not a fan of the short barrel nut relying on clamp force to stay tight. I have several BCMs and while I’m not a fan of their short barrel nut either, the engineering of the BCMs is much better (very tight fit of handguard to barrel nut and anti rotation steel tab is a very tight fit to upper receiver vs. loose fit of the MI).
I'm seriously looking into the Aero Enhanced raik for a Radial Delayed SD build. It will allow me to tuck that SD suppressor and has a quad rail version so I dont have to worry about MLOK nuts hitting the can. Not sure if I'll do an enhanced upper or just the handguard on a standard upper though. I like the Aero uppers.
It works well for that.
Missed the live stream. Question if i have the midwest 2 piece drop in handguard with a2 fsb mid length and i wanna upgrade what would your advise be. I want to keep my a2 fsb.
Keep it?
@FocusTripp yes I would like to not change my gas block
@FocusTripp I'm ok with removing it to install a handgaurd but it will be living on the rifle
DD Omega 9, 4 set screws, free floated, don’t even have to remove anything but your old handguard. As a fellow FSP enjoyer, it’s my favorite drop-in
@ST-zm3lm thank you appreciate your input
Aahh galaxy map. Things feel...right.
what is the purpose to arc rail on the bottom of the ripstop rail?
Yall really did PRI dirty, lol. They’re pretty lightweight without rails. A 3” rail section weighs 1.1oz, about .36oz per inch of rail section. 1.1 divided by 3=.36.
They’re also not that expensive if you get the versions with no rail attachment holes or vent holes. Which you could DIY, just ask PRI how to do it. They said to drill a small hole then use one of those cone drill bits.
No Centurion handguards?
@focustripp , I got a question. I was looking into getting a spare BCG just to have on hand and wanted a microbest. I noticed PSA sells a PSA branded microbest BCG... is the QC done by microbest before they send it to PSA? Pretty much just want your opinion on it... I'm weary of buying it b/c of the PSA branding...
Don't get PSA branded parts. Find a genuine microbest or AO Precision BCG.
PSA microbest BCGs are somehow worse so I don't know.
I think it's the opposite buddy. I think PSA gets the Microbest BCGs cheap because they either take slightly out of spec parts or cut costs by having microbest QC them less or not at all.
Is the background music from Mass Effect? 👀
@@ArmyGreensTanBoots yessir
@@FocusTripp Hell yeah, awesome stuff!
zev wedgelock rails arent expensive, expo arms is made by zev/mega and expo arms does a mega arms/zev upper lower and wedge lock handguard for 275-350 for the set. best deal around and youre insane if youre buying anything else at the moment.
I bought the dd m4 and didn’t think I was going to swap the ris2 but I did so idk if buying something means you won’t swap out the handguard. I think that happens pretty often even when you have one of the “best” handguards included
The more basic expo arms handguard and that clear ano one you showed are made by white label armory. They oem for a lot of companies.
I love this shit let me guess before I watch:
LMT MRP
RIS 2
Heat shield handguard (he’s gonna say that lasers won’t hold zero tho)
BCM/V7
Geissele
RIS 3 (he’s gonna say just get the ris 2)
Aero types
Wish me luck
Edited to switch bcm and geissele
Not too far off.
is it possible to change a Springfield Armory St Victor handguard to a Geissele or DD
Yes.
