It's nice to know a few of them Alco's are still working. A couple still moving freight.

i want to work with these guys at the GBW, seemed like a tight group who looked out for each other, from the President down to the track crews. I'm sorry i missed getting out to see the GBW before the end.

These guys were the best, and the GBW was a well run, well managed RR. BUT--- everything gets sold, or taken over, or closed eventually. We will not see a total RR environment such as this ever again.

Personally in my opinion, I feel like the WC takeover was basically unnecessary. When you look at it, each railroad at the time had thing's going quite well for them with their own split personality when it came to operations & motive power. Even so a few common aspects they had was the goal of operating trains on their systems to & from originations & destinations with perfection & plenty of revenue with 90+ cars. Not to mention & equally important is the employee moral with their own style of friendly down-to-earth slice of life down home flavor.

The men were not kidding--- it WAS like a big family, that got along, and everyone knew everybody. I guess nowadays, that is old fashioned---- and does not mesh with the computer.

@@Joe-d7m6k Right. But that's why I prefer 90'S railroading compared to today. You have folks who enjoy their job when coming to work everyday & you get more variety & colors when it came to motive power.
