There's something relaxing about watching a couple friends enjoying a game together. No yelling, cursing--well, very mild cursing, and plenty of punny asides. It reminds me of times I used to enjoy renting an NES ages ago, lugging it to my buddy's apartment, and spending an afternoon doing much the same. Thanks, guys. The silliness and humor are why I subscribe.
I tried beating this game tonight, got as far as his second form, but then kept messing it up. Took me about 10 continues to even get to his room. I honestly thought I was going to give up on the game, but after watching Dave plow through the game after probably not playing it in a while, I'm going to try beating it properly tomorrow. Love your videos, guys.
When Joe made the cat dance it was thinking tonight you die in your sleep hooman or maybe it was thinking about cat food. Not sure my cat translations are off sometimes.
I used to play this game everyday after school with Charles N Charge on in the background. I never could get past the 3rd level. But I could get through the first two without getting hit. Thats something.
Really enjoying these, appreciate the extra effort that is gone into editing instead of just having a fixed camera. It makes a big difference! Also love how chill your cat is while you're waving its arms around, clearly a regular occurrence.
Love the multi-cam style and I’m so glad you guys are doing this series! Funny enough, I was just wondering about which Castlevania game boy game I should try first (Or if any are even worth playing) so I needed this in my life.
As far as I know, there's just Castlevania Adventure, Adventure 2, and Legends. I didn't like Adventure because it didn't really feel like a Castlevania. Adventure 2 is definitely more Castlevania-like. Legends is alright, but I didn't really like that one a lot either.
Much love boys! Those cheesy title cards are so Gamesack, and that's why you guys rock ! As a sidenote i had this game back in the day, but i guess i suck because i could never get past the spiky moving walls.
I would love to see you guys play Lament of Innocence. I thought it got a bad rap back in the day. I know it's not a phenomenal, genre-defining game or anything, but I enjoyed a few playthroughs when I got it new. And the soundtrack is amazing! Glad you guys are doing these in addition to your regular episodes. Honestly, you guys have given me something to look forward to over the last year when shit in my personal life hasn't been all that great. Keep it up! I've been a huge fan for years, and while I'm not in a position to donate via Patreon or anything, I always watch your videos and tell everyone I know about you guys. Thanks for creating such consistent, fun content. It's much appreciated. :)
I liked how Lament of Innocence has a challenging second quest. The Dopplegangers fight was brutal until I figured out a good strategy. I also enjoyed Curse of Darkness and trying to figure out how to steal items from enemies.
Gordy Owl Are you sure it's Joe's cat, or is it the cat's Joe? Cats merely pretend to let you own them so long as they're given the proper worship and treats.
Out of all the youtube channels I've watched on youtube I binge this every night to end my day peacefully. You guys are so genuine and give me a nostalgic feeling of simpler times. Very funny too, I wish you guy played every retro game that existed just so I could enjoy this channel forever lol.
There is a "speed hack" patch for this game! Which polishes it up nicely. In fact, there's also a color hack. Ofcourse Nintendo has made access to these genuine improvements a bit difficult lately.
Do me a favor guys and do a playing with sacks playing the arcade exclusive Cadillacs and Dinosaurs when you get the arcade pcb. Game looks and plays fantastic in my opinion. That would make my week hell, it might even make my year.
So many memories playing this as a kid. Oh and Konami actually fixed the sluggishness on the Konami GB Collection Vol.1..and it's somewhat more playable.
This is very very weird I was just searching up information on sales for the Castlevania series today and Castlevania the adventure popped up. Fun fact, it is one of the best selling original GameBoy games. It sold 2.5 million copies.
It’s an awesome game for sure. I feel like the sales are partly due to it being almost a launch title and a drought of software that followed. Still that’s a lot of sales.
The dancing cat had me laughing way harder and longer than it should have (full disclosure: still laughing). I got my gameboy a few years after it came out (91 maybe 92) at a pawn shop for half the regular price and it came with this game included. This was the first gameboy game I ever played. Never beat it. Played it until I could get another game for it, but I still have nostalgia for this game.
@@tetrisdave Sadly, no. I think, if I remember correctly, a year or two later I traded it and my games in at the same pawn shop for a Sega Genesis and after that traded the Genesis for a PS1 before the place closed down. My parents were of the "You can only have one at a time!" Type. But... as an adult I've got it again along with Belmont's Revenge, so happy ending in the end.
definitely. since wiiware and vc service came to an end... *sigh* tho I'm a digital distribute guy, I still wanna keep them in my hand and maybe one day, pass them to the next generation, video games are true art. and, I'm back. long time no see Mr. White~ have a good day!
This has way more production value than J&MM. Keep up the good work guys! Btw where is the intellivision console review you guys promised me back in 2015? I told you I could lend you mine with games if needed. Does Dwayne need to request this to get it done or what?
Ahhh yes. Being new-ish to Game sack and watching all the old and new episodes it's like watching children grow up. Dave youre looking old in this one! Or maybe just more mature and wiser?... :)
You would never know that back then though with the back of the box downright stating this takes place after Castlevania and Simon's Quest. As a kid I assumed it was just Simon again.
Have you ever played Go! Go! Tank! on Game Boy? I vote you play that on one of these Playing with Sacks episodes. I've never gotten past the city stage in that game.
Thanks for uploading these again. Myself and many others appreciate all the work that you've done over the years. Even our cat is a fan! And I hope the game case wasn't too banged up after it fell from the television.
Had the game never got a chance to finish. I really can't remember why, maybe mom was pissed about buying batteries all the time. Years later I bought an SP I found all my old games including my favorite Motocross Maniacs. I had it for awhile I left it over at my mother's house so my nephew and niece to play when they came over. Well she let them take it home and I never saw it again.
My favorite memory of this game is playing hooky from school, getting "babysat" by this retired lady, and sitting in her living room playing it. And probably rage punching my Game Boy in the face. Love that music, though. I don't think I've ever heard it in stereo before.
The very first castlevania I've tried to beat as a kid. But only three continues and pricey batteries won't let me complete these game. Nice vid as usual, blokes!
Christopher Belmont is the character you are playing as. He is the ancestor of Simon Belmont. This is a century before the first Castlevania. So it is a prequel. :)
Great play through guys! I've been playing this game since I was a kid (and beat it a few times) but I never knew about any of those secret hidden ropes. I'll definitely be taking advantage of them on my next play through! =D
You inspire me. What they REALLY need are two big bean bags. In essence, they'd be playing WITH sacks ON sacks. Now if they could just get someone to accompany them on sax while they play we'd really be onto something...
I beat this over the weekend funnily enough, and while I do own a copy of the cart, I used the 3DS Virtual Console Restore Point feature on the downloadable eShop version to cheat my way through it all, lol.
boys (particularly Dave) you need to try Slain, and bloodstained. both excellent modern nods to castlevania (while Konami sits on the licence doing slot machines)
Loved this game back in the day. the graphics, sounds and music were awesome back in 1990. but playing it today its like half speed, takes some getting use to.

John: Well said...absolutely perfect! ;-) These two on Game Sack are a breath of fresh air.... quite sublime! :-)
Thanks and yes playing a good game with a friend is what it’s all about.
Game Sack is the greatest retro game channel
Dave flexing to a cat is one of the best things I've ever seen
4:32 The look on the cat's face has this expression like the cat is thinking to herself, "What has my life become?"
Maybe that cat should have a chat with Smooth McGroove's cat about that ^^
That cat dance is my favorite GameSack moment thus far.
I'm watching this video at 1.25X speed and Chris Belmont still moves too slow.
I met Dave at Jimmy John's last week. I'm a delivery driver there. The end.
Hollywood will call soon trying to option your story into a movie.
Insane story
@@GameSack If Dave wants in I'll put in a good word. He might be perfect to play the role of Dave.

Hey mom, I’m watching a video from the guys that I like, it’s called playing with sacks
I like how your cat winked while you were making him/her play the "piano".... XD
That cat should be on every Playing With Sacks :')
Loving this format, one of the better let’s play setups out there
Thanks and we’re(I’m) drinking a beer or more tonight. What are you currently enjoying?
Game Sack Dave man after our heart, cheers 🍻
Whoa! 200k!
Congratulations, guys!
I played the hell out this game back in the day. It's pure nostalgia. Love the cute cat too lol.
Bring back playing with sacks
Game Sack: With 200,000 MEGA POWER!
(Seriously though, congrats on reaching 200K!)
This game's got one of my favorite cover-artworks ever!

We're gonna cover the second one next month. Not sure if we'll do the third. That one's kinda... ehhhh.
Belmont's Revenge is the Castlevania Game Boy game most worth playing!
Can't wait for Belmont's revenge. Even better music, better gameplay, diverse enviroments, subweapons... it truly is a great castlevania game.
Yep, another Castlevania II recommendation here. The first game is good, but the second is great.
As far as I know, there's just Castlevania Adventure, Adventure 2, and Legends. I didn't like Adventure because it didn't really feel like a Castlevania. Adventure 2 is definitely more Castlevania-like. Legends is alright, but I didn't really like that one a lot either.
I remember beating That game... Don't let it fool you it IS difficult.
I beat this game back in the day! The music is so good!!
At first , I thought those skull pillars were just hands releasing magic fire balls .
Much love boys! Those cheesy title cards are so Gamesack, and that's why you guys rock !

Out of all the youtube channels I've watched on youtube I binge this every night to end my day peacefully. You guys are so genuine and give me a nostalgic feeling of simpler times. Very funny too, I wish you guy played every retro game that existed just so I could enjoy this channel forever lol.
Castlevania Cat!
Despite the controls and speed, gotta love that soundtrack and yet it still feels like a Castlevania game. W00t for new episode!
Don't play with your Sacks, play with your whip!
Why not both?
Lol
Just whip it out!
There is a "speed hack" patch for this game! Which polishes it up nicely. In fact, there's also a color hack.
Ofcourse Nintendo has made access to these genuine improvements a bit difficult lately.
Haven't even started watching it yet, and I'm already looking forward to the later stages!

We will if I ever score a PCB of that one!

New game idea as an off shoot of the death trap series: Dracula castle creator
The game was so short they had to make it feel longer with sadistic level design.
I really love Playing with Sacks, uh... ... ...
I like this game as well
This was probably the only game I ever owned but never finished.
OK, this is it, Game Sack is over, from now on it is Cat Sack, Dave and Joe will have to be content with being background filler to Cat Sack.
Great game; great fun!
Thanks for another playing video! Grats on 200k!
this game still holds a place in my heart till now. btw my fav castlevania title is actually rebirth on wiiware.

Yeah the latter for sure. I do feel old sometimes.
I missed that game in my childhood!
I have always loved this game and I do NOT care how much people slag on it!!!
My man!
I am digging the new and improved Playing With Sacks format.
FYI , the Belmont we play as in this game is Christopher Belmont .
And the game takes place in 1571 or 1576, a century after Trevor's adventure, but a century before Simon's adventure.
Wait... it's not Dave Belmont?
While we're doing Gameboy games on the Super Gameboy, how about a PwS with Mega Man V?
It sort of looks like a sack after you "beat the candle" in this game.
The player is a ancestor of Simon "Christopher Belmont" . Set 100 years prior to first. A prequel
You would never know that back then though with the back of the box downright stating this takes place after Castlevania and Simon's Quest. As a kid I assumed it was just Simon again.
I had to look this game up on Wikipedia to get that information while watching the video here. Oh and I love black kitty cats.
It’s not snow ❄️ it’s ashes of The Bats 🦇 victims 😂. Enjoyed y’all as always had a Blast.
I really enjoy watching you two switch back and forth. It's like a competition to do better.. but it's not (but it is).
Dave looks so much more charismatic with glasses on. I think it really suits him!
The good whip it slices it dices it makes julienne frys. Will not break -gets hit by worm- it broke
NICE KETTEH
Great stuff guys...thank you...I really hate I missed out on the Original Gameboy...really awesome system!!!...

@@tetrisdave I sure was.
Who is the worse architect? The one who designed Draculas castle, or the one who designed Umbrellas facilities?
Lol that’s funny. I think umbrella is worse since castlevania is purely a defensive style. But still a horrible castle to live in.
Bad game, but I like it because nostalgia haha. I thought it was so cool to have Castlevania on Game Boy back in the day.
Apparently the Belmont is "Christopher Belmont"
I still can't tell your voice apart but i still love watching your videos Dave and Joe!

Good episode, well done Dave! You really put the pressure on Joe to perform now.
The Belmont in these first two gameboy Castlevanias is Christopher. Descendant of Trevor, Ancestor of Simon, with 100 years in between each.
Christopher Belmont is the character you are playing as. He is the ancestor of Simon Belmont. This is a century before the first Castlevania. So it is a prequel. :)
