In South Africa the high end MFDs are all priced on par. The UI on the TZT3 is brilliant. My 1st use i got around the machine pretty easy. Although Ive used 620/628/588 for many years. Cant wait to try the XL. TZ maps ... will see once its arrived in SA. Furuno are super tough and long lasting. On that note can u guys do a chat on looking after flush mount MFDs especially the hybrid models and exposure to the elements.
Are you coming out with and app or way to map out your routes on you phone or laptop then able to upload on the boat? Or am I missing something that is available now? I was on a friends boat and he could map our his routes in his Navonics on his phone then upload later on this boat to Garmin. It drives me crazy I have map everything out at the helm on the boat. I have tries the current Furuno apps while hanging around on the boat but they done work well currently
You can download TZ iBoat for free from the Apple Store. That will allow you to plan waypoints and routes. Once you do that, you can save it to your MyTimezero.com cloud account, log into that same account from the MFD and you will be able to transfer all those waypoints and routes. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!
The hard to use thing.... My customers don't upgrade every generation of product. They might keep a 10-15 year old MFD till it's dead and don't understand how much things have changed since then. The raster charts provide some welcome continuity as these people update, even as they get used to tzmaps.
That's the great part of TZ MAPS is that even though it is a vector chart, you can make it look like a familiar raster chart. That way, when they do upgrade, they have a feeling a familiarity with the charts. Thanks for watching and for your comment.
I bought the TZT3 lineup with the intent of keeping it for at least 10-15 years. Not upgrading every generation of MFD, especially if there is no incentive to "trade in" my current displays. So i will stand by my Furuno charts suck compared to the competition. Yes, the XL line has amazing cartography, but i am not dropping another 40k to "upgrade" my displays for one feature.
TZtouch 3 is a very capable system and provides many of the same features as TZtouch XL, with the exception of TZ MAPS. All of the same sensors that you are using with your TZT3 are still the same sensors being used for TZTXL, so you are guaranteed that you main sensor technology is going to remain sold for many years to come. However, if you have an iOS device, you can download the free iBoat app and get a subscription for TZ MAPS on there. You can do all of you planning there and transfer all your waypoints, routes, etc. to your TZT3. Here's a link for you to get more information: mytimezero.com/tz-iboat
@FurunoMarineElectronics I understand that all of the sensors are compatible with the XL family and the TZT3 system is very capable. However between 2 boats I have 3 12" displays, a 16" and a 19". I just added them all up and it came out to 38k before taxes. I do and have been using the tz iboat app on my iPad for a couple of years now. But when I am offshore, I would prefer the charts be on my MFDs.
Another option is to add a Timezero Pro 5 PC into the mix if you have room. Keeping that up to date is more incremental in cost and it had tzmaps a year before tztouchXL, and operates nicely with tzt3 and xl.
@@jasonphilbrook4332 Thanks, I looked into that option. Still isn't overly appealing to try and integrate a PC into my platform. On top of the fact that I can only send that display signal into a 16" or 19" display since the 12 and smaller don't have HDMI inputs. This is a band aid solution at best. Between 2 boats I have 3 12" Displays a 16" and a 19". I tried piping the display of my iPad into the HDMI. While it displayed, it doesn't play nice with the touch outputs from the display. Now if we could bring the radar to overlay on the iPad, that would be fantastic and I will just look at a ram mount to hold the iPad.
I can definitely agree with most of what you're saying. But unfortunately, here in Australia, the TZ XL 16" is still the most expensive. Followed by Raymarine, Garmin, simrad, then Lowrance. I understand that those prices are most probably in US $. And with shipping fees, etc, over to here, I guess it's going to bumb the price up.
Yes, you are correct that the pricing shown in this episode is in US dollars. Pricing is different in every country. That being said, we are glad that you agree on most of the other topics we talked about. Thanks for watching!

I think that is my biggest frustration - I purchased 2 TZTouch3 19” displays a couple years ago and now with TZMaps not being useable, they are already obsolete. I have Navigator that can run TZMaps as well as iBoat but now I need to purchase charts twice - TZMaps for Navigator and iBoat, and again for the TZTouch3’s. Special pricing or some incentive to help with this would be appreciated.
Well looks like the 45k i spent when i built my new lobster boat in 2020 was a waste. Got the tzt3 as they were coming out. Now cant upgrade and would need to spend huge money to upgrade to xl. Are you kidding me. Im the only commercial boat in my port with furuno and now i see why
We would have to disagree with you on that one, TZT3 is still a very viable and powerful system. For fishing, there are fishing charts that you can purchase that will give you detailed contour lines that you can then overlay color depth shading onto them. Additionally, all of the award winning sensors, like Radar, Fish Finders, Satellite Compass, etc. are the same, so your TZT3 has the very best sensors on the market.
The new charts aren't compatible with the tzt3? That's unacceptable. How hard is it to make charts work across the product line? Seems almost punitive for your existing clientele. Should frankly just be a free update. I literally have to buy a second Garmin unit with their premium relief shade charts and use that for navigation. How disappointing.
We understand that when we make a switch in technology like the charts, it is a major change from one generation to the next. This happened from NavNet VX2 to NavNet 3D, and now once again from NavNet TZtouch3 to TZtouch XL. These decisions are not taken lightly when new technology comes out. For many, the MM3D charts work perfect for them, for others, they were looking for additional detail. We listened to our customers and that was the genesis of TZ MAPS. As stated in an earlier comment, an alternative is if you have an iOS device, you can download the free iBoat app and get a subscription for TZ MAPS on there. Tossing out all my Furuno gear on my sailboat in Ireland to replace with Raymarine. Sorry guys the UI's is just not great. 2 fingers ? Come on nobody uses 2 fingers. Long press who even knows when I should use it. Your competitors are streets ahead of you in UI. Your kit is top notch but your UI is failing you. The very fact that you needed to make this video says it all.
If you are used to a different UI, then someone may say it's not as easy, kind of like going from Android to iOS. However, if you take a look at this video th-cam.com/video/b4ehBLsHUYM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Ds6OrzX9hHLQPJAd, you will see that in many instances, the Furuno UI does take less steps to perform tasks, making it easier to use.
