Hello Juliet... I can recommend using Vicks Vapor Rub to repel the midges! It's a natural and strong smell. Put some around the back of your neck and your ankles. No risk of spilling any liquid either 👍👍
As long as all riders are at peace with going at their own pace, and there's no feeling of shame or blame for being slower, it makes a lot of sense! It's just important to remember to let your slower friends also have a break at the meetup point. (My least favorite thing is catching up with a fast group, and they've all been resting and recovering but once the slow group arrives they immediately want to push off again.)
Fond memories of cody y brenin, used to mountain bike there 20 years ago before the visitor centre was built, thanks for sharing this, great energy as always Juliet... 😊
That was a really useful overview of what the trail's like, thank you! I also love a campsite when bikepacking (can't beat a shower at the end of a long day). And a pub. 🙂 I've done a fair bit of bikepacking in groups, and despite a strong preference in those groups for riding together socially, climbing at your own pace seems to be a pretty unanimous preference! 💯
Great scenery Jools & no puncture or mech problems ! Happy chickens :) When you see Katie the mountain goat again, think she said she's off to the Pyrenees soon. Recommend a "beastie" 10K climb she can try, just to the east of the Tourmalet, Col De Beyrede. That'll have the mountain goat huffin & puffin ! Hope the Universe & cycling gods watch over you & Laura, maybe they can have a word with the midges, to go............ ☀️ 🏴
Pro tip for such adventures: create a profile on your bike computer and leave out speed + average and just enjoy the ride at your pace. Then you won't feel preasure by numbers in your head. You can look it up afterwards... I found it made me much more relaxed and I'm able to take in the environment better. 😉
a smokey camp fire gets rid of Scottish midges alternatively light up a cigarette ..dont know if it will work in Wales but it worked in the 80's in Scotland..I was not a smoker but the adults were .... yes ride your own pace great idea
Me and my old broom of a dad, that's how we do it: he's going ahead of me setting his own pace which evidently it is going to be _unhurried_ and me, I'm staying behind adjusting mine to his. At any point, we're going up together ! I'm onto the next episode already, I want to see where this is going to end up the two of you eh ! Big guts has she to even attempt wild swimming there, I'm with you Juliet on this one, I would have stayed put too. =]
Nuclear power station... Not Hydroelectric. It is being decommissioned, and (I think) it will be buried in slate as this is cheaper than properly decommissioning it :(
I think it depends on if you are the strong climber or the not so strong climber. If I am the strong climber, then I am totally fine with going my pace up the climb and waiting at the top. If I’m the not so strong climber, I find myself feeling that I have to go harder so the stronger person isn’t waiting too long (even though I have absolutely no problem waiting when I’m the stronger climber…why is that?). I also feel like I shouldn’t stop until I’m at the top. I’m trying to get over that, but it’s tricky.

gravel doesn't have good geometry for climbs it is also limited by tire clearance
@@JulietElliottsChannel smiles it’s not 2000 kilometers but 200 ,right should be right …I can understand that’s nothing for you …but Les carbs it’s good for your health…

What about "ll"? (I remember many years ago asking a Welsh lady for directions to Llanelli, and the way she pronounced it was so incredibly beautiful).
100% agree to go at your own pace 👍🏼 on climbs makes a lot of sense.
Unless the slower climber gets a mechanical or worse, hurt themselves and you don’t know about it

Really! That’s a new one for me. Worth trying for sure
I absolutely love looking at all your rides and adventures . It's so freaking awesome.
Thanks so much, that’s super nice to hear x
Just found your fantastic channel Juliet. Love your vibe. Enjoying it.
Yay! Thank you!
I agree with riding at your own pace is best. 🙂
Own pace is best Jules! Whether it's cycling,walking or --- whatever, own pace

Absolutely! We have all been that person at some point
Totally agree Juliet. Ride at your own pace otherwise it’s stressful❤

It's nice to go your own pace, especially if you are usually the slow one like me. Although if it's a short one, it's kinda fun to try and keep up.

I agree to meet at the top
Not weird. Just the best option for both you in terms of fitness & gearing.
Any chance you could publish your GPX of the route as the scenery looks fantastic.

I got a fine mesh bag thingy that you put over your head to keep the midges off. Works well but Dose make drinking your sneaky can of beer awkward.
I have a midge hat - should have taken it!
It's a beautiful place Cody y Brenin. We had our honeymoon there 🙂
how lovely!
You got to do this again but with a time frame goal. Gravel bike for the win.👍🏻
It's lovely up there. Your so lucky to get no people, result.
totally. Peace and quiet. Bliss!
The big grey box on the lake of Trawsfynydd is a former nuclear power station and the water from the reservoir was used to coolthe reactor!
Being glow in the dark increases safety riding at night. 😉
I would not have gone for a swim myself… hope Laura is ok. 😢
Hav u done the Pennine Bridleway 85% proper off road and 170 miles love to see vids on that.. 👍
I haven't but I would love to!

I'm totally fine with riding my own pace, as long as I'm faster. 😃😄
Haha, same here 😂
Which bike was the right bike for this trip, Gravel or Mountain?
For me, gravel. Laura said she’d rather have been on a gravel bike because of all the road sections
Keto lowcarb ..! Read about it …Chris Froome have done it I live on keto diet ..I am cycling…maybe 2000 kilometers at the week
It’s not for me but each to their own

I don't really listen to music riding unless I'm racing an ultra! I actually usually listen to audiobooks

That was cruel making Laura ride through the puddle to check the water depth 😹
haha, she is very easy going and doesn't mind one bit : )
Can't keep me out of a puddle 😅

Hey why not have a sugar fix after a climb, you have expended a fair amount of energy going up hill. Dentists etc probably would not agree .
😂 phonetically its roughly Trowse - fun - eth.
I hope you're midge repellent did not contain Deet, the stuff I use, 50% Deet will melt holes in expensive waterproof jackets.
Very roughly for Welsh pronunciation
f = v
ff = f
d = d
dd = th
Obviously it's more subtle than that but that should get you by
What about "ll"? (I remember many years ago asking a Welsh lady for directions to Llanelli, and the way she pronounced it was so incredibly beautiful).
Trousers Innit?
for climbs you need to have technique
Yeah I literally started riding the day before yesterday so I have no idea about any of this 🙄
