Kaiju no Kami Reviews - Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters (2012) Series

Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters had the most unfortunate luck of being the series that came after Gokaiger. As such, the set-up an d tone of Go-Busters was so drastically different from its pirate predecessor that it was an instant turn-off for the vast majority. It was a complete failure in the eyes of Toei, garnering the lowest ratings of the franchise since Ohranger, but without the toy sales Ohranger acquired to make up for its shortcomings. What’s really strange is the series was written by Yasuko Kobayashi, who had had major success with Shinkenger several years prior, not to mention Kamen Rider Ryuki and Kamen Rider Den-O. Of course, she was also responsible for Timeranger a decade earlier, which was another failure in Toei’s eyes. What’s funny is Go-Busters was the first show since Ohranger that returned to a military based Sentai team, which I guess goes to show that modern audiences just aren’t interested in watching a team of rainbow-colored superheroes working for the government. Was Go-Busters really that bad of a series, or was it just ill-timed? Watch to find out.
