3 Levels of Snow Owl Traps for Extinction Ascended

- ARK: Extinction Ascended is here, and with it comes a favourite of many; the Snow Owl. But taming a Snow owl can be tricky without a trap, so I've come up with 3 different designs to help you get in the air as soon as possible.

Materials needed:
Trap A:
2 x stone pillars
1 x stone quarter/triangle ceiling
2 x stone walls
1 x reinforced door
Trap B:
2 x stone pillars
1 x reinforced cellar door
4 x stone walls
1 x stone quarter/triangle ceiling
Trap C:
1 x fence foundation
13 x stone pillars
1 x ladder
3 x stone triangle roofs
7 x stone quarter/triangle ceiling
2 x stone sloped walls
Where does the 2nd stone pillar go on trap A?

I like the small one cuz its quick/light for on the go, however the last one is nice because when you knock the snow owl out, it stays off the ground.
That's what I was thinking too. Nice to keep it up off the ground in case a direwolf or daeodon wanders by.
The last one seems to be the most parts but I would say the second one is pretty light too. Its 2 pillars, 4 walls, a ceiling, and a quarter ceiling.
the second one seems to keep it also of the ground, when knocked closing the door might give some additional protection
@kinngrimm I've used the first one a few times now. So far they all pass out on top. It's so compact, not sure I'll use anything else.
i mean if u have hide u can just take literally 20 seconds and farm 4 spike walls lol

Definitely liked B the most. I was looking forward to all of your new trap videos for ASA Extinction, but especially these for Snow Owls, one of my favorite creatures in Ark.
I like be so much...I doubled it up for my first trap....one going both ways. I think you could even do 4 way for omni directional trapping.

Owls are my favorite IRL but also in ARK. Ive been waiting so long for them to come back so i'm glad you were so quick to to get a trap video out. I'm kinda sad they seemed to have changed the eye shape a lot, maybe it will grown on me.
First one always works. Just put the pillar as high up as possible as he said. Then you can just fly to it and land below and the owl always goes in. Its wild how good these work. Good upload 👍

The third trap is a nice build to leave behind on the server for others, with no doors to open, anyone can utilize it and share it round

Rare flower and maxxed out Equus or Mantis-with-max-clubs does the trick as long as you can isolate yourself from other annoying critters.
Eating a Rare Flower forces animals in an area to aggro onto you. A bred, imprinted equus/mantis w/ max club knock out better than Shocking Tranq darts, especially if mate boosted.
Another tip: I use a mantis' right click attack over and over to quickly knock out a giganotosaurus.

I like the 3rd one too as having it off the ground should protect it a bit when knocked if you don't have kibble
Worth noting it may drop to the ground if it goes out of render.

I've got some traps for mana but the AI seems weird. It's only landing for a split second.

First trap most of the time. Twice, the owl flew out the top for me even with me on the ground below it.
Interesting. I've not had that happen, I'll have to do more testing.
I was wondering if this trap would work for Argys too? I want to get both birds and setting up one trap for both would be awesome. (at separate times of course)
No, owls are smaller than argys. I don't bother designing a trap for both of them because they don't share spawns. I'd suggest one of these in the snow zone and my argy trap design wherever you find an argy.

I like them all. But 3 is to much for my braincapacity. 1 is relly nead. But Number 2 is one little step further i think.
with you tiny Argi-Trap i sometimes have the problem, that im too clumsy to open the doubledoor before the bird flies outwards again. But with the doortrap you can still stand in direction to the bird and easyly open the trap without leading the owl back out of the trap.
C is best for protection IMO
How did you make the ceiling so small on the first trap?
Quarter ceiling. It's a different engram.

I've not tested any but I can tell you from experience that an argy won't fit between the ramp and the cage. What else is there?

why the fence foundation cap?
Makes the pillar a bit higher than lifting it the regular way. Without it the ladder is obstructed on official.
Trap number B? B aint no number ma guy. Im trying trap a though but you use 1 piller, mats say 2?

I had the snow owl escape from the last trap while i was using it. Just fixed it by placing a wall but weird.
I'll have to do some more testing with it. I've not had any escapes yet, but of course it's always possible when there's no door.
@@captainfatdog this was on offical so it might also have to do something with the lag and extremely low render distances.

I was planning on it, but the mana AI is weird, they don't land for more than a split second. Needs a rethink.
3 to 4 dino gates and two doors work just fine too I don't see the need to make these overly complex traps it's a simple tame
