One of the most underrated bands of all time! This album is just as relevant, possibly more today, than when it came out! Corey's vocals and Vernon's blistering guitar are unforgettable and recognizable from the jump!

This Album was great. Corey Glover, the lead vocalist, starred in "Platoon" with Charlie Sheen. Vernon Reid , the lead guitarist, is LEGEND.

I had friends back when this came out that are African American that were sssssssoooooo happy to see these guys rocking out. I don’t remember ever seeing an all African American rock band. My friends loved being able to see these guys represent their culture in predominantly Caucasia genre of music that they loved. Awesome band, awesome music, awesome lyrics.

I remember very well when this song hit MTV, it exploded. That was my first time hearing the song and of the band. Would stop what I was doing to sit down and listen to it every time it came on the TV. It had been a while since I heard it until a couple of months ago when I found it on TH-cam. I am so happy you liked it, Pat. Hope you have a good rest of your day.

People forget that rock n roll has its roots in black music, especially the blues....in fact, rock n roll was coined out of black music.

They also do a great cover of Should I Stay Or Should I Go by The Clash live in CBGBs.

A cult of personality, or cult of the leader,[1] arises when a country's regime - or, more rarely, an individual - uses the techniques of mass media, propaganda, the big lie, spectacle, the arts, patriotism, and government-organized demonstrations and rallies to create an idealized, heroic, and worshipful image of a leader, often through unquestioning flattery and praise.
Sadly, still true and present today.

This is from their debut album Vivid. I'd also listen to Glamour Boys from the same album then from the second album, Time, it would be Love Rears its Ugly Head, Elvis is Dead and the awesome Type, the guitar line is pure shread and Vernon Reid just showing how awesome he is with added bonus of a very rememberable riff too ! The third album Stain I think is the best one IMHO, Ignorance is Bliss, Leave It Alone and Nothingness are the highlights here.
I also had the pleasure of meeting them when they were touring on the second album, Times Up and they were the nicest guys and sat chatting about the music touring etc etc for hours and it was wonderful to see that they are now back together and the (new) recent album Shade was good too. Who Shot Ya and Pattern in Time are really good here too.
Keep up the good work and look forward to hearing what you think of any of these tracks.

Desperate people is another track from that album that is quite good open letter to a landlord official music video is good 👍 funny vibe is also good 👌 and has a taste of rap in it I think. From their second album the track of the song called type is good as well. I thank you for your time sir and wish you all the very best.

Terri Ertz Corey is NOT Danny Glover's nephew (when they did SNL with Mel Gibson, he was there and they joked about it, but it's not really true.) What is true, though, is that he's a cousin of Melle Mel from Grandmaster Flash.

A cult of personally is basically someone who has following because of their personality, and how they can be portrayed (sometimes to the point where people will follow them and idolize them, even if they do terrible things).
Often a cult of personality can use a scripted (or sculptured if you prefer) image (via the media or other sources) to portray themselves in a way that people can relate to (hence the lyrics, "I know your anger, I know your dreams", "I've been everything you wanna be" & "I'm the smiling face of your TV").
Followers can forgive a cult of personality for awful atrocities (and still follow them, without question), no matter how many times they do it (or how many times they themselves are exploited), hence the lyrics "I exploit you, still you love me".
Followers will also believe everything that a cult of personality says (without question, and take it as gospel), even if it's not factually correct or is a straight up lie (even when there's evidence that proves what they were saying isn't right), which can give them immense power, hence the lyrics, "I tell you one and one makes three", "You gave me fortune, you gave me fame"
, & "You gave me power in your God's name".
FYI: Not every cult of personality (that has ever existed) is a bad person though, and in fact they reference Mahatma Gandhi (who employed nonviolent resistance to lead the successful campaign for India's independence from British rule, and in turn inspired movements for civil rights and freedom across the world) in the song.

Not a one hit wonder, at least in the U.S., as this song and Glamour Boys both hit the Top 40 (Cult at 13 and Glamour at 31 -- and Open Letter to a Landlord hit 86.) They also had ten different songs between 1989-93 chart in the U.S. mainstream rock and/or alternative top 40 lists. Their videos had massive airplay on MTV too. At worst, if you only consider the regular Top 40 as the "hit" criteria, they were a two-hit wonder. :)
