Its so crazy how many people admire Blair when they're people that she would definitely bully or ignore. I also never got the "she works hard, Serena gets everything handed to her" defense when Serena was actually nice to people so it made sense that they'd like her and give her more leeway. I had a love / hate relationship with Blair Waldorf. She was very much a major ultra conniving bish. the show never gives her a reality check though. throughout the entire show, season 1 till the last she never gets told to shut her classist elitist ass, and she never realizes how horrible that is, never regrets it. even when there were multiple occasions where that could have happened. for example when she got together with dan, when chuck nearly died and she got religious all of a sudden, when she was facing a paying a dowry and theoretically the first time in her life she’d have financial struggles. the show also constantly portrays the humphreys as “poor” even though they have a gigantic loft in brooklyn, go to a elite private school (partial scholarship or not) and then attend NYU costing thousands and thousands. the show isn’t self aware at all.
The funny thing about this show is the Humphreys were coded as “working class” because they were compared to the other characters who were much wealthier, yet… Rufus owned an art gallery, both his kids went to the same private school as the others and they weren’t on scholarship. They were pretty well off.

season 1 Blair was at her peak because she was a good CHARACTER, and the storyline was interesting. However, after season 1 she completely fell down. Most of the show fell down after season 1 though.

Blair is very obviously a villian, I don't think the show wants people to like her in the way that we would like a protagonist which is why I think that Serena gets so much hate because she is SUPPOSED to be the protagonist but is equally as flawed and problematic as Blair at times. With Jenny leaving the show early there really was no middle ground in later seasons, anyone who stood against Blair, Serena eventually went against as well.

i mean, not news at all for the ones who are older since GG came out but i love the many points on this video. I used to love her when i was in high school but i wasn't liked very much by boys in that period of my life at least i was very shy and wasn't confident on my looks but i wasn't ugly but i definitely related to Blair a lot more or probably fully, and when watching this show in my 20s again mid 20s i started realizing how emotionally immature she actually is, i don't think serena is much better in terms of being self-aware but i like serena and I'm not 100% like her but i can see and understand her side without demonizing the character. I'm 27 now and I'm definitely more of a serena type of attractive woman if you get it u get it. i have more sex appeal and i enjoy being confident and I stand out, my personality is till reserved but I'm not oblivious to the male attention i get. All those questions constantly floating in Blair's mind - living rent free and she never seems to realize that it's her ego, her classism, her privilege, her being spoiled, being mean & a bully allllll get in the way of being the Audrey(ies) of the world. Which is part of the reason why she has misogynistic ways. She only keeps (but always falls out with) being friends with Serena because Serena serves as Blair's poster & "It" girl for Blair. Again, Serena is everything Blair wishes to be; so Blair only keeps Serena around to yes, admire her, but because she ultimately is jealous and Serena always gets what Serena wants and often the things that Serena has & gets are things that Blair already has her hands on (Nate, to be Nate's first & love, the Ivy League school she wants because her father went there, the ability to have ppl bow down to Serena like the minions do, jobs like at the "W" which Dan got so she fought w/him too) she taunts and sabotages almost everything to/for Serena. So that's why she keeps her around. Sorry for the long ass feedback but I feel like ppl miss this breakdown and yet always ask, "why do they always keep going back to each other and stay friends??". Trustttt me, Serena is LITERALLY notorious for always trying to get away. From Blair AND everyone. But Blair creeps her way back into Serena's life or Serena classically runs away, has a drug overdose and Blair (alongside other ppl) run to Serena's aid. So THATS how they keep being freinds, lol. Plus... I have had a Blair in my life. And they alwaysssss try and come back. They wanna be close to because yes they admire you because they love your energy but they want to posses it; and so without even realizing it they start being mean to you and sabotaging your life alllll over again. It's a vicious fucking cycle.

Serena was actually nice to people and wasn't judgmental which is funny because her family had more money than Blair's, by the billions but she got to know people for who they are and she made mistakes like everyone else, but she was actually kind. However, she attempted to destroy Serena's life multiple times over even when they were "friends" granted, Serena was a mess and didn't need much help wrecking things for herself. Anyway, Blair didn't need to mess with Serena nearly as much as she did and should have just cut her off after Serena came back. Serena was a crappy person for sleeping with Nate. Serena had no control over Blair's mom being terrible and actively called her mom out on it. Yes, she should have realized Blair's mom was using/manipulating them both during the fashion shoot but Serena honestly seemed shocked and surprised about what Blair's mom did. All she was guilty of there was being dumb lol. Serena generally sees the best in people and was often manipulated because she was dumb in that way.

I had a love / hate relationship with Blair Waldorf.
She was very much a major ultra conniving bish. Serena had her issues and was wrong for sleeping with Nate, but Blair was far too insecure in her relationship and friendships to be relatable and trust.

the show never gives her a reality check though. throughout the entire show, season 1 till the last she never gets told to shut her classist elitist ass, and she never realizes how horrible that is, never regrets it. even when there were multiple occasions where that could have happened.
for example when she got together with dan, when chuck nearly died and she got religious all of a sudden, when she was facing a paying a dowry and theoretically the first time in her life she’d have financial struggles.
the show also constantly portrays the humphreys as “poor” even though they have a gigantic loft in brooklyn, go to a elite private school (partial scholarship or not) and then attend NYU costing thousands and thousands. the show isn’t self aware at all.
The funny thing about this show is the Humphreys were coded as “working class” because they were compared to the other characters who were much wealthier, yet… Rufus owned an art gallery, both his kids went to the same private school as the others and they weren’t on scholarship.
They were pretty well off.

I agree with a lot of your opinions on this first of all I love the thumbnail and whilst Blair was extremely awful and she treated Jenny terribly she wasn’t exactly the main reason for her downfall Jenny nearly getting SA’d by chuck , treated terribly by her dad were big contributors.

season 1 Blair was at her peak because she was a good CHARACTER, and the storyline was interesting. However, after season 1 she completely fell down. Most of the show fell down after season 1 though.

Blair is very obviously a villian, I don't think the show wants people to like her in the way that we would like a protagonist which is why I think that Serena gets so much hate because she is SUPPOSED to be the protagonist but is equally as flawed and problematic as Blair at times. With Jenny leaving the show early there really was no middle ground in later seasons, anyone who stood against Blair, Serena eventually went against as well.

i mean, not news at all for the ones who are older since GG came out but i love the many points on this video. I used to love her when i was in high school but i wasn't liked very much by boys in that period of my life at least i was very shy and wasn't confident on my looks but i wasn't ugly but i definitely related to Blair a lot more or probably fully, and when watching this show in my 20s again mid 20s i started realizing how emotionally immature she actually is, i don't think serena is much better in terms of being self-aware but i like serena and I'm not 100% like her but i can see and understand her side without demonizing the character. I'm 27 now and I'm definitely more of a serena type of attractive woman if you get it u get it. i have more sex appeal and i enjoy being confident and I stand out, my personality is till reserved but I'm not oblivious to the male attention i get. Blair is definitely that type of woman who does not allow herself to be or have sex appeal or simply is not free in her sexuality not completely to the point to be comfortable to be seen as flirty or sexual or approachable cuz she is too judgmental and i think she had a lot of internalized misogyny due to her appeal for structure and older ideas of seeing the world and behavior, yk she was too old money i guess but her insecurities are rooted in ideas and expectations of her mother but also her uptightness made it harder for her to loose and express her true desires of being seen and probably desired, i think her lack of understanding how to do this made her an over achiever and in result very controlling and stagnant. i like the character, she has qualities, don't get me wrong but if i met her irl i would be so put off by her that all her good qualities would probably go unnoticed
