Thanks for sharing this list! Nice, succinct summary. A nice length of ultralight cordage comes in handy!
Regarding the Flextail Repel, I would encourage everyone to do some reading up on the main insecticide ingredients, prallethrin and meperfluthrin. I’m a bit concerned about the potential impact on bees, fish and amphibians if these products become mainstream in the wilderness. And there’s some early indications that mosquitos could build a resistance over time. Nothing is blatantly conclusive about these chemicals in an aerosolized form at personal use levels, but worth considering from a leave-no-trace perspective.
Yet again, brisk, specific, helpful. Well done.
glad you enjoyed!
I almost instantly fell in love with the flextail pump. So much better than my thermarest pump, and it has a lantern. Bonus in my book. I might look into the repellent gear. Thanks Matty
So many reasons to get the pump.
Shock cord on in the InReach is super smart. Mine fell on the John Muir two weeks ago and it was a $250 repair because the screen cracked.
definitely something im happy to have learned
Yeah the pump stokes fire really well but don't leave it going while rested on a piece of hot rock right near the flame the way a mate of mine did with my pump because plastic melts. Like ... Hold it in your hand while you stoke up the flames.
The little pumps are really nice to have. I have been using a Camp-Tek Air Mattress Pump - Microburst since 2012. It's 2.3 oz or 65 grams and that's with the battery's in it. It will fill a Neo Air 25 times before I change battery's. I like time tested items and my other one is the Therm-a-cell , it has saved me a lot of blood & starved a lot of mosquitos over the years here in Mosquito infested Florida. I've had it at lease 20 years and it has made a lot of other campers believers in it's abilities. Best 6 ounces I have ever taken into the woods with me and refuse to leave at home.
the little pumps are eventually going to be a staple in everyones loadouts soon enough
The gear you showed here is really sweet, I’ll buy that cool pump, thank you! I must say that the bug repellent device though, man those things are horrible. It’s been shown, even on TH-cam, that these types of devices don’t create a dome of protection. Videos showing that even in ideal conditions - the guy is filming the device working for a half hour straight before starting to test, with no wind. And amazingly you see dozens of mosquitoes surrounding the device and even landing on it, and of course trying to bite the owner who is sitting half a meter from it (covered in a protective suit). Best thing is a physical barrier or a good bug repellent product that you put on your skin.
Well, in testing this unit, I can confirm it does work well for me
Nice video! Glad you showed a video with actual unique ultralight gear and not the usual “carry a smart water bottle!” or “get rid of stuff sacks and use a nylofume pack liner!”
that stuff does have its place in the ultralight journey
@@MattyOutdoors It does but it would be beating a dead horse.
@@SophisticatedDogCat maybe for folks who have been into UL for a while. But, not everyone is into it, so that kind of thing is new info to them.
Lol! I think I have modified the cordage on every piece of gear I own with either some dyneema line or shock cord. And you won’t regret it in the side of your pack!
In the little bit of testing ive done, so far im loving the shock cord addition!
The tiny pump works amazing for getting the fire going. I bring it just for that and the lamp.
I wrote this comment before you mentioned it, but I can confirm it works great.
good to know it works for that too!
Thanks!
No no, thank you!
Dig the kool-aid Randy Savage shirt..just bought the flextail (been putting it off because of weight gain) works great.
I have a feeling the flextail will eventually be a staple in everyone's pack.
The flextail tiny pump weighs less than most inflation sacks. Definitely worth it. Don’t fill up your pad by mouth! In addition to passing out, you might get mold in the pad, and when your warm breath cools it will deflate your pad a bit.
truth
Hey, I design 3D printed adapters for that flextail. Makes it a lot easier to use with Nemo, Big Agnes, etc. I also make an adapter that fits to a telescoping metal tube for blowing air on a fire. Happy to send over some samples if you'd like to try!
Id definitely be interested in checking something like that out
@@MattyOutdoors Sounds great! What's the best way to reach you to set it up? I see IG and FB if your profile, would a DM on one of those work?

Another winner.
winner winner chicken dinner!
What kind of bug net was that @1:02 and how in the world did you get your hammock through it!?
cave creek pet palace
@@MattyOutdoors THANKS!
Id skip on a dyneema wallet. I got a chicken tramper wallet and got tired of switching from trail to work wallet so its my everyday wallet. Best part is the bright color so you can easily find it
i took a look at those as well just opted for a little less weight
Yea I looked at those too but I only support nuclear family positive companies
@@RichardKeysoftware what?
@@RichardKeysoftware what ever that means
Dude, every time I look at my dyneema wallet, I feel joy. 😆
Glad I'm not the only one
I picked up the ultralight repel - you have to use your own battery but it weighs nothing
what repel?
Flextail has a Zero Pump coming out that’s even smaller and lighter than the Tiny Pump.
ill definitely be checking this out
Are we supposed to know what the flex tail tiny repel does? It would be helpful to say what things are for for people who haven’t heard of that item before.
i mention it keeping the mosquitos at bay
@@MattyOutdoors ok. Must have totally missed that. Thank you! Definitely going to get one of those. They love me. Do you find it works well?
Where’s the ul gear? A pump?
yes, thats the only piece of gear i showed, way to follow along!
@@MattyOutdoors don’t worry I watched the entire Flextail commercial.
@@notyouraccount9742 im happy for you
@@MattyOutdoors the only worthwhile gear** 🙃
@@Gameout50 you aren't wrong
Why carry your keys, you only need the key to your car door. Leave the rest of your keys under the seat or somewhere in the car. A lot of people use hideaway keys so they don't have to carry any at all. I'm always paranoid about losing my key out in the woods. I can get a new ID, and I can get a replacement credit card. But these days most vehicles have computer chips in the Keys. And you only get a couple of them to start with and they are very expensive to replace. The secret with most of them is you only need the chip key for the ignition. You can make a cheap copy for the door. That way you can hide a key and carry a key without losing your pain-in-the-ass key. Just an idea. Unless of course you have the keypad entry.
I have a little USB charge air pump. That little sucker is great. It doesn't weigh hardly anything. And I would probably carry it even if it weighed a lot more. Of course I usually use it to inflate a boat but I do carry it when I go camping and use an air mattress. Although a lot of my air mattresses are self inflatable so I don't need it for them.
i carry a house key and a key for my truck. They go in the hip belt pocket of my pack, and that's the only thing that ever goes in there, so i dont touch it until im off trail.
I'd personally be more paranoid about someone breaking into my truck and getting that key, the losing it myself.
Air pad? Nah, I tried them. I don’t sleep well on them. I use foam pads. Lighter is better.
i feel like just using a foam pad is un necessary torture
@@MattyOutdoors I think the inflatable pads are slightly more comfortable. I just don’t get great sleep on either pad, unless I’m really tired then I sleep.
