    You should try adding a more effective aeration system, or even just additional fountains... that should help control the duck weed or at least limit it to pond edges

      One plant isn't harmful, neither are two or three and so on, but as soon as a major part of the pond is covered with duckweed, light cant reach all the other submersed plants anymore, which causes them to die and rot. So with a shitload of rotting plants in a pond, guess what happens next. Nitrate levels explode and fish and other animals die. So yeah, a few plants might offer shade and safe spots for fry, but too much is just bad.

    • @flanjoh
      @flanjoh 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      As someone who treats ponds for a living duckweed is a monster. Yes some fish eat it. Yes small amounts are okay. The problem with duckweed is that it reproduces so quickly. I'm talking I've watched it completely take over a pond in a week or two. It's also difficult to get rid of. I know the right chemical to kill it but if there is even one tiny duckweed plant left on the shore or in the pond that gets left in or washed in your right back at square one. As for nitrate levels that's not really what would happen. If duckweed or even algae chokes out a pond, the lack of su light kills the plants then as they decompose it sucks the oxygen out of the water. Once it gets to low you'll get a fish kill.

    Great job guys!
    Idea for easier clean up, what about a wide fishingnet on a long pole? Like the ones you use when fishing, for retrieving the fish close to the boat.
    And then to save time going back and forth, you might wanna get a small boat to put the weed in or just put a container in the boat. Like standing on the paddle board scooping and putting it directly in a container!
    And even if you don’t have a boat, like a bigger version of that container you used to use to collect trash while diving might work?!

    buy some winches... put 2 at one end of the pond and attach one at each end of a bigger net and the one more winch at the other end and attach a rope in the middle of the net. run the first 2 winches which will pull a lot more and you're not putting in any effort until you have to rake the weeds out. then start the other winch to pull the rope back to the other end of the pond. definitely on the expensive side and I don't know how often you would need to do this. so this will probably cost-inefficient but you could trade the winches for trucks and run the trucks if you have space...

    These plants are actually really amazing for ur pond and fish...because of their tendency to grow and produce extremely fast they will eat up all the ammonia and bad elements within ur pond keeping ur water in pristine level therefore having ur fish healthy....

    As I hear it, Koi absolutely love duckweed. You could either rent some out or purchase a small colony to keep your pool clear. If the population is too high though, they might start going after your water lillies and other aquatic plants though.

    Brandon, now that more light can get into the pond, can you do a video with the Nauti-Cam through the pond?
