      I found out that welding 304 ss polished doesn't do well with straight up nitrogen... it holds, and doesn't leak, but welds look like a great Dane had anxiety and tore up the furniture.. I'm definitely a beginner, but I have welded with both mig and Flux wire before and apparently retards can do things.. I'm getting my 4th of July on, tell me to fuck off, or rock on. But I'll tell you now that if you are on the rock on side, ... I'm a REPUBLICAN. I respect all, but I reject all arguments that don't make any sense to actuall REAL Men and REAL Women. FUCKING PERIOD.

    Picked up the titanium 170 last November for a work project. I never welded before. Watched a lot of TH-cam. The project was to take a 27 passenger minibus and make a limobus out of it. I built the seat frames with 1inch square tube. Welds were good and solid for a nooby. Worked out great. The titanium 170 made the project easy. Have had several projects with it since. A cradle for an rv generator, welding exhaust etc...

    I have the titanium 200 and it's a great machine. We use it nearly everyday and I can tell you the titanium machines are under-rated.

    Some months ago I found one of these Titanium 170s at a local pawn shop for $240.00 out the door which looked to be unused. After running it thru the ringer I'm convinced these are very well made. Now I can keep the gas hooked up to my Miller MP 215 and use this 170 for a dedicated flux core welder. I added an HTP 15' gun and 20' ground, (green colored #2 AWG), with one of those nice brass HF clamps on it which really helped extend the reach. I also bought the spool gun for it but still haven't tried it out yet.

    • @joejimenez5399
      @joejimenez5399 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do yo have a part number for the HTP gun ? Has it held up good? I feel like the titanium gun is small and frail.

    • @rabie4x4
      @rabie4x4 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@joejimenez5399 Hi Joe. The ebay part reference is: 15' HTP Replacement Mig Welding Gun Torch Stinger for Lincoln Magnum 100L K530-5 . It uses Lincoln replacement tip sets commonly available from big box stores like Home Depot and such. You will have to clip the connectors off this gun assembly and transfer the quick connect plug over from your existing gun but it's an easy task. As a side note, the old gun can be fitted on to a Titanium Easy Flux 125 for those who would hate to just throw the old gun away but that's another subject for another time. Let me know if you have any questions.. Cheers! RL.

    In reference to the unit auto switching 120/240 you stated " I don't understand why it cant do it itself". Being in product design and development most my life, I can tell you, they could, but then they would have to charge you for it. They probably reused components or entire circuit boards shared from another welder or other HF products so they get the economics of purchasing scale, reduced costs for BOM materials including sourcing, storing, testing, QA , failure analysis and most notably assembly/production. HF also then has common parts to use for all products to negate supply issues on any one, it goes on and on. But most of all, like anything else, thats the way they first made it, which was 100% driven by costs and "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" as that costs alot of money to rev a product, test it, track it, and monitor it all its life. Great review, thank you for it.

      Weigh up the cost of a 'big' argon bottle if you go Tig, personally mig is a lot easier and in my opinion more versatile than Tig but that all depends on the type of welding you are doing.

      @TimWelds  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I haven’t done much auto body welding, but I’ve seen MIG used most often in that industry. The way I’ve seen panels welded is by placing a lot of small tack welds around to avoid warping the metal. Thanks for the comment!

In the garage, I have 4 240 volt lines and several 120 volt branches, one of which has to have a special high magnetic circuit breaker for motor starts. There's nothing really fancy about it, just standard wiring, but there's quite a bit of it for something residential.

    Nice review, thanks! (Though my next upgrade is probably gas for my existing multi process, then eventually maybe tig - maybe once the kids are grown ,🤣)
    Got around to my first actual project last night (instead of just running stringer beads). Did flux core on my Yeswelder MIG 205ds, and tried a flux core tip instead of the gas nozzle. Turned out pretty ok I think, though I definitely could use a table. Figured out an exciting new way to pop the breaker: accidentally sticking the corner of the contact tip to the workpiece. Was my first time with the flux core nozzle instead of leaving the MIG nozzle on, and hoo boy that made it exciting 😳
    Would be good if you could offer some help with these "synergic" settings: my welder acts like you're setting current (which changes voltage but the knob adjusts the current number most directly) and material thickness, no explicit wire feed speed. Fortunately I did learn online that using it in MIG/mag mode will let you get lower heat than the flux core setting.
    Interestingly, mine can do dual voltage, auto switching, but the manual says let it rest like 5 minutes between voltages.

      @@TrentsGarage that's good news. About 5 years ago one of their customer service reps couldn't answer my question for a replacement gun liner. He asked for the wilder's sku number. Of course I didn't have that number because the welder was 30 years old. Then he asked me to give him a sku number for a similar welder offered at that time in their catalog. He put me on hold after I gave him a sku number. He came back to the phone and said "I'm sorry but we do no carry any parts for that welder."
      I remember this conversation vividly.
      That old welder continues to sit in the corner of my shop. I guess I kept it in hopes of obtaining the information you and another provided. That welder was replace about 4 years ago with a new Millermatic 212. Love the 212!

    Dumb question, but... If I want to weld with gas, do I just need an argon tank if I buy this welder?

    • @dustinniemeier3898
      @dustinniemeier3898 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you would need a bottle of gas. The type of wire needing this gas is designated as "A Solid Wire"; usually called out as something like ER70S. It has a "bronze-ish" color on its exterior, but that is a really thin plating to protect the main steel that is within.
      I believe that there are many varieties of bottles of gases to choose from, and they all work better with certain types of wire. And they all have varying costs. Also, there are different sizes of gas bottles, too. But, the most common type of bottle gas mix that has worked very well with Solid Wire, (since almost the dawn of welding, as it would seem..!) is the 75/25 mix; the two gas ingredients being Carbon Dioxide and Argon. One is 75% of the content, & the other is the remaining 25%.(-and right now I'm having a Senior Moment on which ingredient is which; 75-CO2? Or 25 is CO2?!?)
      But, I believe this is also the most affordable gas for solid wire MIG Welding. It's been so long since I've looked at my tank, and it is on a 10 year lease program with my weld vendor.
      Hope this helps you! Good Luck!!

    I’ve got this machine and I’m having trouble with it having a wire feed delay when I squeeze the trigger and when I let off it continues to let out gas for about half second. Is that normal or is something wrong with mine?

      You want thay its pre and post flow to keep your weld shielded from environment while metal solidifies keeps contamination out of it

    Does this feed below 125ipm? Mine works well above 125ipm but below that, it arcs then stops feeding but still arcs from tip to work.

    What's the thickest metal you can weld with this? I've only used Miller machines at the shops I've worked at doing a ton of exhaust work over the years. I'm looking for one to use at home for bui my xj up. The frame kit and adding trusses to my diffs are my main concern. I'll need to weld sheet metal as in body panels too and was wondering if this machine would handle all that

    PLEASE HELP???
    I bought this welder and it seems to use up my C25 shielding gas very fast. Does anyone else have this issue? If so how do you fix it? Can i turn of the pre/post flow to reduce gas usage? Should i use a different gauges?
    PLEASE HELP!!!

    • @TimWelds
      @TimWelds  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The rate at which it uses gas is directly related to the setting on the regulator. If it’s set at 25 CFH, you should get about 5 hours of arc time out of a 125 cubic foot cylinder. If the math isn’t adding up on those 2 figures, you probably have a leak or a bad regulator.

      Use a spray bottle with soap and water and look for bubbles.
      Also with your gauge showing on turn the bottle of and see if needle drops fast.

    would you recommend this welder for 1/4" (on 220v} for plating suspension components? ive got an off-road project i wanna DIY some modifications for and itll consist of alot of 1/4" lap joints and such. seems like it would run fine but i want to know what your opinion is. thanks!

      It can definitely do the job with solid wire. If you want a really strong weld, .035 dual shield wire will also run in this machine with the same shielding gas as MIG. It is a gas shielded flux core wire that has great properties even under some shock loading. usaweld.com/collections/flux_cored_mig_wire/products/htp-america-e71t-1m-dual-shield-mig-welding-wire

      No. For steel, you need 25% CO2 75% Argon or straight CO2. For aluminum, straight Argon.

    wait a minute I didn't know that that roller had a difference between flux-core and regular wire .. I thought it was just o 35 or 030 .. that's probably one of the problems I was having with the other one . a little bit to get it to feed using flux

    yeah that wire that comes with it and the wire at Harbor Freight is dogshit !... I was getting so pissed off I almost threw the weather across the yard last night . it was like trying to solder without flux .. the sh-t would ball up and then fall off in chunks .. so today I'll be grinding that s*** off

      I’m sure the wire is fine. It’s just a small spool that I would run it out fast with the amount of welding that I do.
