This is the vid that made me check out the new MT 09 having never really been that interested before. I'm now the owner of a new MT 09 in cyan like this one and loving it! Thanks Tim for a great and convincing review!
I got mine last week and it’s the funnest bike I’ve ever ridden. It’s like a more modern version of my old 919, but more peppy and surprisingly nimble feeling. It really is super flickable. apparently the looks are a love-hate thing, but I love the new look, too.
The MT09 has always been the middleweight naked bike for me. If there wasn't a Street Triple. And after many test rides of both and thinking about it I'm thrilled to have finally taken the plunge and got my RS. Aside from it not coming equipped with cruise control it's everything I want from a motorcycle. Still, in a world without a Striple it's good to know that the new MT09 would be a worthy second place.
and same goes for the highway, the wind will destroy you because it's a naked and you have many better options for the highway, so what's the selling point of the MT09?
I’ve owned the previous 3 generations and the new XSR 900. All great bikes. But nothing makes me want to buy one of these. Yeh, I know it’ll be a great engine. But I can’t get passed the looks of it.

Test rode it on saturday, it's SO MUCH better than the previous gen. No more horrible floaty front wheel. Suspension is more planted but still not perfect imo. Quickshifter could be betterbut the bike had 400km on it so maybe that would improve with some more mileage. Definitely one to put on the shortlist.
I know right? It's stunned me how different it feels to the previous gen, despite the same engine. You can actually attack corners on it now. Would love to do a trackday on one...
@@timrodierides Absolutely. The ergonomics are way different. Legs tucked up way further. The bike feels much smaller and more nimble. I think this is how this bike was always supposed to be. Im thinking of getting a bike in this category to replace my hornet which is another bike thats great fun but not the best looking machine and hopefully i can try both of these and decided for myself and if I perfer the MT09 see if i can again get past the looks like i did with my hornet🤔
The reason the Mt09 feels light or flickable is because the front end is too light. the bike never feels stable and planted. you feel like a gust of wind could make the front end start floating at any time. the best thing about it is the torquey engine. but I like the feel of the Street Triple 765 RS more. but I haven't tried the 2024 Mt09.
I have a 2022 model, I agree with your comments . I tested this 2024 model today the handling was significantly better, you could feel the front end much better through the corners and the front brakes were better with good feel I want one !
IMO, when I look at the normal MT09 it is missing something, just don't know what. I really hope Yamaha makes the "new" XSR 900 2025 ( AI version that you see on yt).
The triumph is a lovely looking thing ! The yam is umm let's be honest ugly as sin and I don't care how fantastic it is I do like to look at my bikes 😂
@@timrodierides Looks are very important to most people I think [Including me] and the Yam MT series have always been marmite bikes. The engines are great fun though, but for me that new XSR 900GP is the one to go for.
What I'm saying is your not comparing like for like your latest video KTM 990 for example is a round 950 cc with a price tag which is more or less the same as a standard MT10 which is a more realistic comparison. The new MT09 is also a larger nearly 900cc engine as well with impressive accelerations due to lower gearing but with a cost to overall top speed just imagine if Triumph increased STRS to 900 or 965 cc how that would perform given the standard one now has more BHP then both of them now although down on torque, i.e. neither of them are real middle weight bikes 😊
True, but the MT09 and Street Trip are about the same price, which is what most people use when shopping. And remember that KTM are masters of discounting the bejesus out of their bikes in winter. I had a Street Triple as my first bike and loved it (back in 2009), but if I was in the market for a £10-12k naked I’d be all over the MT09. It’s just more fun.
I feel like this would have to be a second bike as I currently own an s1000r so I personally feel I'd be loosing out of I got rid of the bmw for the mt. Honestly it's literally small things example.. Cruise control. On my bmw I can use it in any gear and from 15mph onwards As Tim pointed out on the mt it's gear specific. Braided lines, brembo brakes, semi active electronic suspension on the bm And more this is why I say if have to get an mt as a second bike as it can't replace the bmw not to mention in the used market honestly they're the same price Mt09 sp gen2 and 3 even bigger deal breaker.
People need to understand that looks are subjective and i personally know people who absolutely hate the twin bug eyed ST (i like it though). I personally find the MT09 good-looking as well. But the problem is that this bike comes in as a CBU in oir country as compared to the CKD Street Triple. Hemce the price difference between these two is so much (about 7+ grand) that choosing MT09 over the Street Triple becomes almost stupid decision.
I've not owned either or ridden them for long enough to comment on reliability, so anything I say would just be conjecture. However I've owned an MT-10 for half a year and it's been faultless (as you'd hope). I'll comment on fuel economy in my full review
