The segment on which planet is closest to Earth is brilliant and fascinating. I have been reading about this. "Celestial mechanics" is just awesome. Thanx! ❣️❤️
Always so interesting! Thanks. Also thank you for mentioning the southern hemisphere! I often wonder, for example with the upcoming Geminids, where I will see them from here....
Hi @TheSail2222! According to the RASC's Observer's Handbook, the Geminids peak at 1 UTC on December 14. But those peak times vary from source to source. So anytime around December 13 and 14 is probably best. The bad news is ... the moon is full! So - no matter where you are on Earth - only the brightest Geminids will be visible.
An analemma is a figure-8 shaped pattern in the sky, made by the sun or moon as their position in the sky changes, due to Earth's movement in orbit. Photographers take the sun or moon's photo at the EXACT same time each day .... and over time the figure 8 pattern appears. Here's one, showing the moon: earthsky.org/todays-image/moon-analemma-photo-explanation/

re 1613 The diffraction 'rays' are usually from the camera iris (F stop) rather than the lens.
