    It's now been fitted for a couple of weeks and I'm very happy, love having Apple CarPlay! For those that are interested, I've added a link to the stereo into the video description.

    That mouse knew what a proper sport car was when it chose the Exige. What a car to call home.

    I daily my Elise 220. Had a 911 and drove it less because it was costing loads to run and it was dull. Lotus Toyota lump is low cost and the Lotus is hilarious everyday. Smile every trip. Thanks so much for this, gonna do it.

    Wow, so lucky with all those wires behind there. Never seen that in my life. Great job, stereo looks great!

      It was a real surprise! You’re right though, lucky no damage was done.

    Easy solution for the headlining is, get that hardtop off & get some open motoring in!

    • @BritishRacingGreens

      😂 that’s a fun option too!

      My headlining is off, and since the underside of the hardtop is the body color, it looks like it never was supposed to have a headlining. I love it

    you might find that the poor radio signal is due to the head unit needing one of the cable/antenna add on's that came in the box you unpacked, there did some an awful lot of extra cables.

    • @BritishRacingGreens

      I did look into that (there are a lot of wires!) but I don’t think there’s anything in the box to help out. A relatively brief investigation suggests that it’s related to the body being fibreglass rather than metal, which impacts any head unit with no simple fix. Spotify it is.

    Been on the fence about one of these for a while. Might have to order one after seeing this.

      With a couple of discount codes it cost just over £200 from eBay.

    Great video, very useful as always. When driving can you see the whole of the 6 inch screen? I find the steering wheel obstructs my view of my current stereo so I'm hesitating on a Carplay/Android Auto model.

    • @BritishRacingGreens

      Thanks! You’re right, the steering wheel does obstruct my view of the screen. However of I use the split screen / multi-app view that you can see at the 20:00 mark in the video, then I can see the whole map unobstructed.

    What about one that folds away when you switch off. That way it just looks like a normal radio and you can get at your heater controls etc. Then it comes out when you need the screen.

      I did consider that too, agree it could be a good compromise. I’ve done a couple of trips through France and Italy where I really needed both the Sat-nav and the cold air, which is why I opted for this option.

  • @nehok

    Nice exige! Probabaly not perfect for satnav, but have you seen you can now get android auto type headunits like this that are just single din size? I hadn't seen one till a few weeks ago, but they look like potentially a decent compromise for a car with only a single din slot.

      It’s a good point, I did see a couple of these for sale and they’d definitely fit better but like you say they’re probably not great as a sat nav and I couldn’t find much info on them so wasn’t as confident in them.

      @BritishRacingGreens yeah fair, yeah I was surprised to see people make them. But then small screens have gotten so much better. Probably a question of how good the Ux is.

    Do you have range for the screen fitting? Maybe you can rise it a little bit...

    • @BritishRacingGreens

      It’s possible to adjust it higher, but if the screen is higher, it sticks out further from the dash. Got to compromise one way or the other.

      I fitted one of these a while back in my Elise. I Can’t recommend it highly enough. Superb bit of kit.

    Looking at an S2 or S3. I like the look of the S2 more but the power and sound in the S3 is tempting.
    Do you have any issues with attention with the car in the street?

    • @BritishRacingGreens

      I always preferred the looks of the S2 too and having bumped into (figuratively) a mildly tuned S3 at a petrol station, I also agree that the sound was far more exciting. That said, don't underestimate how addictive the supercharger sound is on an S2 in the cabin. I haven't had many issues with attention, there was one occasion where I saw a group of people having a photo shoot by the car (basically twerking on it), but apart from that it's only been positive, people are often curious more than anything.

      @@BritishRacingGreensThanks, I have always loved Lotus stuff since I was a kid. Now I'm in a place to get one I've found it so difficult to choose. I'm in a good area but always have the fear that something might happen to it.

    • @BritishRacingGreens

      @peanutsarehairy it’s now on a very quiet road, but it survived 2 years parked within a couple of hundred meters of Kings Cross station, so from my experience you shouldn’t have too much to worry about. One thing to consider is that if the body gets knocked (gently) the paint can easily crack/spider web so be careful who you park next to!

      @@BritishRacingGreensThanks, good to know. I'm one of those who parks miles away so I'm not next to someone 😄 It would just be a weekend car\hobby. I'm doing all the man maths just now to justify it

      So I have bought this and installed, were you able to fit it well? in my case it seems that i need to put it little bit lower to make it flush fit, but there are no corresponing holes in the back of the display

    • @BritishRacingGreens

      @notabenex1 I started with it flush as per the thumbnail, it took some…determination to get it in, but it did fit. Since then though, I’ve decided that it’s better mounted higher and prouder, this means I need some trim to neaten up the edges, particularly on the passenger side. I’ve already used it a bunch, very happy, CarPlay makes unfamiliar journeys much easier and no worries about my phone falling over/sliding around under acceleration. Hope you enjoy it too!
