The problem, for me at least, was control. I lost control over my life and got uncomfortable emotions about the place I was living and it all kicked off. I was insecure about my value and I could find my value only in running.

The work then is to spend time learning about all of the other aspects of who you are that have SO MUCH value. And think about what you can make space for in your life without running. Don’t be afraid. The best is yet to come :)

Your self awareness is awesome. That's actually really importance for making change.

Yes!! I was cheering the whole time. This cannot be said enough. There is so much focus on mechanical behavior (thank you for the new descriptor. I was calling it surface level before.) and so little on what is underneath. I'm really enjoying your videos so far.

Jill, thank you for empowering us to take a deep, raw, unapologetic look at the beliefs that lead to self-destructive behaviors. I am coming up on two years without a period, and for much of that time, I had convinced myself that 5 AM power vinyasa yoga and running every day were the things that gave me value. They were something I was good at, something I was dedicated to, and something that I could latch in exchange for confronting what was really happening: I felt lonely and out of control of my life.
I play your videos in the evenings while I cook or tidy up the house. I haven't gotten my period back yet, but I have gained some weight and realized that there was no need to fear a changing body, because I feel so much better. My hair is growing back, I'm no longer attached my FitBit, and in general, I'm leaning into all of the other interests that life can offer.
I am sending you gratitude and namaste.

Thank you so much for this comment and for sharing your story! Your words will resonate with so many in this community, especially your realization of the underlying issues that led to over exercise. I am so happy to know that I've been able to help you feel strong and capable to manage your health! Best of luck to you!!

Hi miss Jill. I lost my period for a year. I don’t have any idea about hormonal amenorrhea until i found your videos. Went all in right away. After 10 weeks i gained 10kg. I stayed away from the gym. I am having IBS too but still manage to increase my calories 2500-3000 calories choosing foods what my stomach can handle. Yesterday I got my period back. Thank you very much you are such a big help to me. ♥️💕🌷

To anyone who watches this video, I just got my first period in 2 years and I don’t anyone to feel guilty but I too wanted nothing more than for all the self doubt and hate to be over and let me tell you, you can do this, you can only move forward, if you make progress starting today, you are only getting closer to this goal!

I just found out about RO DBT, a new form of therapy for highly controlling people (HA-ers cough cough). It’s an amazing relief for me to see that my personality type can be changed if I work on it. It adresses the problematic behaviours I have since I’m a kid. There is a psychologist on TH-cam that has a channel where she goes through all the steps one by one.

There are so many excellent methods out there that will help us uncover our fears/motivations/insecurities and there are so many excellent mental healthcare practitioners that can guide us! It's important to find one that resonates with you and then have the courage to face it all. You can do it!

What is the difference between "compulsive walking" and "normal walking"? Walking has been a slippery slope for me.

    • @jillcolangelopsych
      @jillcolangelopsych  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Any activity can become compulsive if we find that it interferes with other activities, you become guilty if you don’t do it, keep increasing the amount, feel anxious until you do it... these are all warning signs.

That's why I take a break of wearing my watch (kinda tracks steps, not very accurate though) regularly. I notice, an I recon it goes for many of us, that I can upsess over how it and feel guilty if I don't reach a certain number. Why do we do this to ourselves? 😅 Attaching our worth or how we feel about ourselves to NUMBERS?? whether that's the scale, steps, calories... whatever
      :)) so interesting

Is it possible to completely recover from OTS?
I’ve had it for about two months now and I’m planning to stop working out entirely until January at least.
After that I plan to slowly get back into training ( assuming/hoping my chronic back aches disappear by then)
Can I please reach out to you? I’m feeling confused and have so many questions on my mind.
    Appreciate it.
