I did the Red for Brown on my lighter brown hair and it actually grew out several inches before it ever truly faded out completely. I've now done the Espresso over the Red for Brown and the new growth. It faded significantly with just one wash but I like the color better. Thank you for sharing your experience, I couldn't find many wavy/curly people trying Overtone.
Love Overtone! I've been continually using it for about 2 years and have never noticed any buildup. Granted, I only color a front piece of my hair, but it's been pink or rose gold for 2+ years. One of the most fun things about Overtone is that you can easily mix colors to personalize your shade. I'd agree with the 8-10 washes to completely fade the color.
so fun!! these semi-perm colors wash out like 50% that first shampoo it's such a bummer, you really have to use the in-shower conditioner with every wash to keep it going longer

You should totally play around with fashion colors! Especially since your white/grey hair will be even more vibrant without having to lighten your hair at all.

This video could not come at a more perfect time!! I have been fighting the urge to dye my hair for years now and this may be a good fix without having to completely commit to giving up virgin hair. How many uses can you get out of one container? My hair is probably about the same length as yours now but pretty thick. I’m worried about cost with upkeep but it could be fun for a temporary thing. Especially if I can at least get a few dyes out of one container.
Rose gold was a great color for you! Have you tried the Hair Makeup from Curlsmith? I've been wondering about that too. I also have brown hair but with more grey than yours and I'm wondering about trying the copper.

I do avoid sulfates primarily because they can build up on hard water! I do however generally still use lathering shampoos, most are pretty gentle but still contain a mix of cleansing ingredients! I do think a cowash or shampoo with minimal cleansing ingredients would help it last!
I love love love the purple! That is what I used the first time and reapplied it multiple times last year!!! It’s soooooooo beautiful IMO! Also mixed it once with the rose gold so it faded more pastelly and 😍

Hello. This question doesn't pertain to this video but I trust your advice and need help! I have curly hair except the crown. Like not at all in this area. As in STRAIGHT. I am considering perming the crown so I have a consistent pattern on my whole head. My hair is virgin and very healthy. Thoughts??
Would you consider doing a comparison of the overtone line and the curlsmith coloring conditioners? I’ve heard curlsmith is supposed to be better for curly hair specifically.
Curlsmith color line isn’t a semi permanent color it’s hair makeup! The feels are pigmented with color and wash out after each use! Fun to try if you just want it for a day but they wouldn’t be comparable to this line as these are designed to stay in the hair after washing!

There is a silver hair podcaster that put the rose gold overtone in her hair and it permanently stained her hair! She was distraught and I would have been also. It may depend on your hair type how long it stays in.
Also, does "wash day" mean you used shampoo/cleanser? Or do you sometimes just use conditioner to wash, and do you find it fades after using just conditioner to "wash"? I appreciate all your feedback!!!
When I say Washday I am 99% of the time referring to using a shampoo and conditioner. I very rarely use a cowash. Few reasons for that is I tend to only wash my hair every 5-7 days, sometimes longer. Also I have hard water and cowashes just seem to contribute to more build up from the hard water in the long run. I don’t know for sure, but my thought is that a cowash with minimal cleansing ingredients or just using a regular conditioner would contribute to less fading!
Was ur hair dyed or porous in any way? & what was the hair colour you put the overtone over? If u don't mind me asking. Im curious as to why that happened to ur hair...makes me a little skeptical about using it.

It's understandble i'd be pretty annoyed if my stylist recommended me a colour that was supposed to wash out & didn't. Did she mention anything at all on why she thought it did stain your hair?
I used sometime for Brown because I'm growing my grey out. I wash once a week and used it 6 weeks ago. My blind parts are just slightly pink in the ends now.
NOT AT ALL 😂 - but I feel you! Didn’t stain, clothes, tub and no transferring to my pillow. Actually the first time I even tried it I had to go with bare hands because the gloves I had were too big and it didn’t even stain my hands. Definitely needed a good scrub but that’s it. It Stuck around in my nails a couple days but after a couple washes it was gone completely.
I’ve used the dark brown Overtone and even though I had some mild surface stains on my sink and shower, they came right out with a quick clean. Definitely not as staining as Arctic Fox or Manic Panic has been for me.

Did you just use the deep conditioner or did you also use rhe daily conditioner each time you washed?

I used the pink for brunettes and it never faded out. After a month I had it removed at a salon.
