I had a friend who, for reasons had to temporarily live in an RV with his parents and he told me it was the most miserable time of his life. That was temporary, I can't imagine how these kids must feel being forced to live there with no way out.

Imagine this being your entire childhood 🥲 like some of these kids have never & will not ever have a bedroom of their own or even just a REAL DOOR that closes (not just a closet w a flimsy slider) until they're old enough to live on their own. I suspect a big storm coming for these van life & family vlog creators, when the kids are old & aware enough to realize how awful this all is

I mean, I didn’t grow up with van life parents but I did not get to have my own space or privacy either…I was forced to live at home until I was 26 (ran away and got married, it was a trash fire and he’s long gone and I am happily remarried) and I had to shower, change, use the commode etc with the door open at all times, because I could potentially be “up to something”. Which usually meant either “reading contraband” (ie, sci-fi novels) or “scheming against people” (ie, my mother and aunt were psychotically paranoid). This kind of behavior is sadly par for the course, and it took me until my mid 30’s to realize that it was completely okay for me to close the door when I use the commode…

I think one of my biggest issues with this whole van life quirk bs is the fact that there's so many lack of boundaries here. Children need to learn how to develop independence and privacy. They aren't objects that are supposed to be cramped together like books. And if these parents are being intimate while they "sleep", thats just absolutely gross. How is it that they are "too little" to own their bed/space but grown enough to overhear the "nasty". Yuck!!!

I lived in a 27ft motorhome at one point as a kid. I had the grandma's attic bed which wasn't so bad, it was actually adequate space to stretch out. Lived in a campground with public toilets and showers. It wasn't so bad, but it was also in the early 90's and I was an only child. Different times then and spent most of my time outdoors as a child. We were also poor so it was a house at least, not like these people who have money and choose to force their kids to live like that.

Yes! I’m completely fine with people living in an RV due to financial struggle, but if that was truly the case these people wouldn’t have king sized beds while their children sleep in areas maybe half the size of a twin. Your RV sounds pretty cool :)

Those were twin size mattresses (aka half a king size) setup as a bunk bed. What do you mean tiniest of places? They literally have as much space per person as their parents' king size bed. How much space do children need while they are asleep? It's not like they're locked in the closet all day. They literally only go in there just to sleep. And if the sofa was more comfortable don't you think they would just sleep on it instead? I really don't understand why people are freaking out about it so much.

Growing up my parents couldn't stay in one place, we went back and forth from Alabama (yep- the one and only) to idaho. I've lived in tents on the Snake River and various other areas, all 5 of us, in the snow at times, until Mom shook a rattle snake out of our bedding and refused to continue living in a tent. We've lived in 3 different school buses, one of which had "beds" for only 4, and me being the youngest/smallest, I got the privilege of spending my nights in the small camper bathtub, which wasn't too bad except for the faucet drip Dad never fixed, I just had to make sure i kept my feet pulled up, and another one i had a bunk bed that was so close to the ceiling the condensation from the temperature difference would bead up and drip on me at night if i didn't keep it wiped down, I actually fell off one night and hit my head on the kitchen table. We lived for a month in an old "ghost" town (abandoned mining town from back in the day) until a bear caught the scent of the scraps thrown out, he evicted us quick and in a hurry. When we were back in Bama we lived in a 3 room shotgun house, living room/ mom and dad's room, middle room was closets and two sets of bunk beds for all of us kids, and a kitchen. We had an outhouse in the back yard and bathed in a metal wash pot just big enough to sit in for the longest time until we moved up in the world and got a real toilet in the back porch and an actual bathtub in the kitchen, (I know, I know, we were spoiled at that point). We would stay one year there and one year back in Idaho and even though I would never allow my daughter to live like that, it was one helluva adventure and i wouldn't change it even if i could. I never even realized we were dirt poor, to me it was just fun. I didn't have a real bedroom until i was 15. These "homes" in these videos are outright fancy compared to anything I lived in growing up.

11:00 😂 reminded me of a friends story. When she was small, maybe like 3 or 4, she used to sleep on a different bed in the same room as her parents. One time she woke up while her parents were on it and she poked her parents arm asking them what they were doing 😂

Honestly, I think van life is good if it's just you and your partner (or alone) and MAYBE a pet.
Or a van like the parents in the last video where kids have the SPACE (shocker I know, "kids need space ??"

Exactly..if one day i wanna travel everywhere, id want only me and my partner, my kids needs spaces as well, if theres not enough space, just like have a day or two trip and at night, sleep in a hotel

Honestly, even if the kids had their own bedroom, this still isn’t a good situation for a developing child. I grew up moving a lot and I was homeschooled. I never had the stability of a home nor did I have that socialization that I needed so desperately. That lack of physical socializing(even with online friends) was so detrimental to my mental health, my social development, and my physical development. I love my family, and I don’t blame my parents for us moving, but god was it so isolating and lonely. I as a 9 year old decided I wouldn’t make any friends again after losing my neighborhood friend because I moved to a different state, so I can’t even imagine how lonely these kids are being constantly on the road like this

Honestly I don’t have a big issue with these kinds of sleeping arrangements-if it’s for a short holiday. That’s the thing; LIVING this way may work for some but I would wager it wouldn’t work for most children, and most children who DO live this way likely aren’t being given the choice.

just so most of you know I used to go camping a lot with my cousins and aunt and uncle and when we did it was normal for the adults or parents to sleep in big beds and it was normal for the kids to sleep on smaller beds that even looked like "kitchen cabinets" how Layz described it, and it's okay to sleep there for a few days while camping but to live there for maybe months or years is gonna be an issue...

I just started the rv life but we made sure to get one where our kids have a whole bedroom to themselves and each have a queen bed. Saved up and sold a lot to be able to afford it but it’s so worth it

    • @littlelady2013

Your kids still don’t have privacy. You have privacy from them but they don’t have privacy. Stop trying to pretend you can do it in a ethical way and just accept the fact that you’re a selfish parent that can’t afford a home or a selfish parent that can and still doesn’t wanna sacrifice your life for your kids but instead make them do the sacrificing. You’re sacrificing their childhood so u can be a quirky parent on the road is disturbing. What are you tryna prove. You could’ve kept that to yourself but instead you’re tryna prove you’re doing something right. It’s the fact that your kid(s) MULTIPLE have to concede to a selfish parent that wants to live an Instagram lifestyle instead of saving up for a home or a place where all your kids could have space and privacy, you choose to have your kids grow up isolated from their peers so you can post their lives on the internet to get brownie points. Are your kids in school, do they even have friends? Why did you have kids if you can’t give them their own space instead of pretending your better which you’re not. There was no point in your comment and your not proving anything besides how terribly selfish it is to have kids without considering their quality of life. You’re not impressing anyone. You live in an rv, you’re acting as if you renovated the entire bus to have three or 4 rooms but a bigger bed doesn’t solve the main issue. What is your point in this comment. Frl. It’s so irritating bc your patting yourself on the back ignoring the main point of contention. YOUR KIDS DONT HAVE PRIVACY AND IF YOURE LIVING IN AN RV, THEY PROBABLY WON’T HAVE A LOT OF FRIENDS OR PEERS. I don’t wanna pretend I know your situation but you’re completely missing the point and are desperately trying to rationalize yourself with the beds not acknowledging the truth. You lack self awareness. Instead of stroking your ego, go ask your kids about what they might be missing in their childhood that they have to go without bc of their parent’s selfish decisions. Literally WHAT IS YOUR POINT. WHAT ARE YOU TRYNA PROVE. NO ONE SHOULD BE RAISING THEIR CHILDREN IN AN RV/BUS/VAN WHATEVER. ACKNOWLEDGE YOUR BAD DECISIONS
