Special thanks man. I’ve been laid up in bed with some medical issues for more than a week and I love hiking and rock climbing so I’ve been living vicariously through you and some of your videos. I know making these videos can take personal time to enjoy the scenery and trails so I just want you to know I appreciate the time you put into the content.
Hey Darwin, really liked your video and the transparency you showed about sponsors! When someone like you gets the opportunity to do something like this documentary I am always very happy! Can’t wait to see the finished result! :)
Thanks for the GREAT videos, I’m too old to attempt anything like the PCT, AZT etc, so I can get a good feel for what it would be like, we are only able to do 5-7 mile day hikes but love the outdoors. Next up for us is Mount Rainier Paradise and Sunrise areas. Safe Travels👍
As a new hiker/backpacker, I love watching your videos. I’m planning a trip to Isle Royale NP in the fall, and a few nights ago I sat down and made a list of everything I want to take and still need to buy. My base weight came out to just under 20lbs (I could, and will, cut another pound from my pack). Seeing that yours came in at just over 12lbs, that makes me feel pretty confident in my choices. Thanks!
Glad to see you made out good on the PCT i wasnt able to watch it all but i did catch a chunk of it! Culling gear its great! I am a one trekking pole kinda guy myself and always have been. I have down sized my packs over the years but nothing extremely light weight. I find in the adirondacks i like 500D cordura nylon fabric packs they take a beating and hold up very well. I've been using the camelbak trizip the past two years and its fairly small and has a removable hip belt which is a nice feature. I have culled some of my heavier gear thanks to your vids and my own hiking experience. Thanks for sharing Darwin!
Awesome, thanks for sharing, I'm excited to see some new gear in the mix on this hike, I'm curious to see how it holds up when you're done. This is gonna be an awesome adventure and I'm glad we get to go along with you. Hike on.
You forgot to mention your glasses, bracelets and ring... J/K I could only thank you for sharing your awesome videos and this kick ass AZT hike trip...
Thanks for gear vids. When you go back to the weekly Q&A I would like to see more about how to eat healthier on the trail and what foods to avoid. Knorr is on the do-not-pack list.
I can't believe it , you mean I'm not the only one using Bag Balm but mine is in the can and I fill up and old Tylenol bottle to take along. Other than the smell it works better than lotions, and keeps your dry skin nice and soft whether it be your hands , feet or lips I love the stuff and have been using it since the early 70s. Made for Farmers but great for hikers.
Hey Darwin, would you consider giving metric data on weight and distances as well? I reckon you got quite a few international folks watching and it would make it easier for us. many thanks :)
I wish I could give you 2 thumbs up for your videos. I love how you don't tell me to give you a thumbs up before I watch but at the end of the video you just leave it up to my choice to do so. Thank you
So, for what it's worth, I carry my old US Army PolyPro long John bottoms, they're the base layer #1 (acquired 2007, not the new waffle ones). They are 5.7 oz (vs the Patagonia long johns 5.9oz) and cost about $15 on eBay (vs patagonia's $150). I don't know what the warmth difference is, but they are a cheaper option that I have never had an issue with, for those on a budget. I love the channel, just wanted to give this info to let people know that there is a budget friendly option.
Watching you do this makes me really wanna get out if this big city life and enjoy nature. Sadly gaining weight and being unhealthy is killing me. Great video always looking forward to your videos!
Do a video on cheap shoe alternatives! This has been one of the hardest things to find. I'd personally rather go through 6 pairs of $50 shoes than 4 pairs of $120 shoes but every shoe recommendation video only discusses the top shoes available
Good luck on the AZT. This one's on my list. But combining it with the Hayduke and Idaho Centennial Trail sounds good too for a Mexico to Canada route. LarryBoy is going to be out there doing something like that this year
I'd be really interested in a review - or discussion rather - of how you liked the Plexamid as compared to the Duplex. I'm assuming that it would perform similarly from a technical/feature perspective, so I'm more interested in your personal feelings about livability and size. And also those carbon stakes. They seem very thick so I'm wondering how well you'd get them into hard desert floor.
Interested to see how the Plexamid holds up for you. I was excited to upgrade to one for my CDT hike but the first time I set it up in my backyard, one of the carbon stays broke. It turned me off so much that I sent the tent back for a refund and am sticking with my Solplex for its 4 thru-hike. I wish Zpacks still made the Solplex.
Great video! I saw the battery pack setup you've got going and was just wondering if you've looked at Anker's lineup of packs with Power Delivery (PD) input. Some of their models can charge via a 30w source, whereby your current portable charger only charges at 12w (roughly 3x faster, although that may lessen as charge exceeds 80%). You'd need a higher output charger (PowerPort Atom PD 1) but this paired with a faster charging battery pack would greatly reduce the time waiting for your pack to recharge. Anyhow, hope you have a great time on the AZT thru hike!
Thanks for sharing! I have a question, will you in the future do a van tour? I know you wanted to do some changes like adding a vent and some other things. It would be cool to see a new video about that, thats if of course you had the time with everything you have been doing with the AZT film. I saw the donut spin out you did from neemores instagram post, I was laughing so hard xD
Hi! Your videos have really inspired me to get out and explore the nature :) Planning to hike the King’s trail in Sweden this summer and were thinking about getting the EE wind pants. What fabric did you choose, and would you get them same again? Cheers from Norway!
I always love seeing gear videos of what TH-cam hikers are carrying because they're TH-cam hikers! The average Joe hiker has a lot less weight on their back than me or you because they are not carrying the massive amount of camera equipment that we often carry. I always get a kick out of that. I've enjoyed watching your gear list video, I think what you have shown is a pretty amount of gear and it has even given me idea for my own gear list goals. Great video as always - Howdy from Shawnee National Forest country :)
Bro, again, thanks for all the content that you are sharing! Well, the thing is that I'm musician and I'm going to travel on South America in one month... I need lightweight things because I'm carring a travel guitar, an amplifier, microphone(with the stand), batteries for the amp, and a pocket trumpet. All the stuff is not for the hikes, but I'm going to share my project and make all the hikes that I can! I want to ask you if you could recommend something to me for the journey or if you can do the hike gear list that you should use for all the weathers, like some gear that you can use in seattle on winter, and in california on summer. It's not the first travel that I'm going, and I know is too much weight, but I can't go without it, I'm going to share... and if the weight help me to share better, im going to carry it. Thanks in advance! And thanks! You do not know how much your videos have helped me.
You said that you might carry the bivy on the ACT. What the reason you change you mind? I just curious and I am considering to start to use bivy with tarp on trails.
What are the best months to do the whole pct trail? How may days worth of food should you carry? I hear you don’t have to send anything cuz you can easily resupply
Good video as ever, if you can make a living doing what you enjoy then good for you, stop worrying about what other people think about earning a few bob, good luck to you
Okay so one think I'm always wondering when I see packs around 40L: Im at about the same baseweight...but how do you fit 7-8 days of food in just a 40L bag? I know you can store stuff like the tent outside to save volume, but my typical 7-day food takes up like 20L of storage... The sleepingbag alone takes another 20. How do you fit 7 Days of food in there?
Well Darwin very rarely carries 7-8 days worth of food. He averages like 30 miles a day. If you pack your food right you can probably fit 10 days worth of food in a 14L bag.
Love the gear list but HOLY SHIT the price is up there. Half a grand just for a tent dang. That gear must be top of the line for sure. Thank you for uploading the list and I enjoyed the vid, Nice gear for sure. Just need to save up I guess. Have a good one and take care.
I Added a couple of last minute things to my List before I hit the trail.👇
OR Sun Gloves - amzn.to/2VJ1VtU
Surface Sun Screen Stick - amzn.to/2tW8PAd
Oh good to see these additions. As a life-long AZ native, I was wondering about sun protection - you'll need it!
what app do you use on your phone to edit videos?
I just started watching yout azt vids and luv them. Wish i would have found your channel before i sectioned AT. Keep up the great work
i guess it's kinda randomly asking but does anybody know of a good site to watch newly released series online?
@Bowie Francisco I dunno I'd suggest Flixportal. just google for it=) -colt

Cannot believe all that fits into that pack. You’re a badass. Living the dream and I’m stoked for you man!
Awesome to see a LiteAF product!!! Can't wait to see you put it through its paces!!! Chris makes some pretty gnarly gear!!!
Looking forward to following you on your adventure. Safe travels.

I love Arizona! I am looking forward to the videos. Hike safe!
Great setup, thanks for sharing and best of luck on your Hike Darwin.

Impressive base weight! I'm so excited to see your videos for this trail!!
So excited for the stories and film that come back from this trip! Best of luck to you and enjoy the outdoors! 😊
Looking forward to the trip! Enjoy and Thank you!
Looking forward to zpacks pleximid review ,,, I’m considering getting either that one or the pocket tarp and modding it a bit ,, safe travels !!!
Great video... the music reminded me of the music they played in Macys in the early 90s. Lol
You forgot to mention your glasses, bracelets and ring...
J/K I could only thank you for sharing your awesome videos and this kick ass AZT hike trip...
Have a great time on the trail. I can’t wait to see how the documentary turns out.
Excited to see the final result of this, good luck man.
Can’t wait to see the behind the scenes video’s and the AZT documentary!!
Looking forward to this hike.
Also liked the porn music, very calming.
😂😂😂... Glad you liked it!

As always, great video. Have fun on the trail.
Could you make a video about what you would take on the AT, if you did it again.
You know how to do it Darwin!!! All the best. This is going to be fun:)

Hello Darwin, great gear review my friend. Awesome gear selections. Be safe out there. Best wishes to you on your quest. 🤗
Watching you do this makes me really wanna get out if this big city life and enjoy nature. Sadly gaining weight and being unhealthy is killing me. Great video always looking forward to your videos!
Any chance that you can do a video of how you pack your bag for these hikes? Or, if you’ve already got a video of that I must have missed it.

Great job on the weight saving 👍🏻
Interested to know how you get footage off your camera onto your phone for editing
Thanks for sharing, Atb Mark
Hi Darwin,
What app are you using to edit with on your phone?
I'd be really interested in a review - or discussion rather - of how you liked the Plexamid as compared to the Duplex. I'm assuming that it would perform similarly from a technical/feature perspective, so I'm more interested in your personal feelings about livability and size. And also those carbon stakes. Cool kit! Love all that camera gear :D

Looking forward to seeing the videos. Question: What editing software do you use on your phone to video. Thank you. Hike on!
Thanks Darwin another great video.
Have you ever thought about doing the Trans Canada Trail "The Great Trail"?
Great video! I saw the battery pack setup you've got going and was just wondering if you've looked at Anker's lineup of packs with Power Delivery (PD) input. "shit tickets" never fails to make me laugh haha
Can't wait to see your thru hike of the AZT. Have you done a review of the Zpacks Vertice jacket?
Amazing
As always, good review and good advice.
Im heading up to Everest base camp in 3 weeks il see how my zpacks vertice handles it😉 happy hiking 👍
Looking forward to your videos!!

Wow, Darwin your gear, minus all the camera gear, quite expensive?
Hi! Your videos have really inspired me to get out and explore the nature :) Planning to hike the King’s trail in Sweden this summer and were thinking about getting the EE wind pants. What fabric did you choose, and would you get them same again? Cheers from Norway!
Any chance you could do a comparison vid of the rain jackets you've used? I'm struggling to find one with solid reviews

Can’t wait to show them!

Those look like the light softshell gloves by BD.
Are you editing the AZT films or is Kat helping you?
Kat is no longer working on my stuff. We parted ways. I’ll be Editing from the trail this year.
Hike On,
Darwin

I'd like to hear more about your CBD stick.
Hey, nibble nuts, CBS is a TV station, not a sick

Talenti caramel cookie crunch-yummo!
Smack-On.
Hey Darwin, can you put a total cost for your base weight gear including what you'll wear?
I love it.
Great vid, love your content mate. What is your plan after finishing the AZT?
Dear Darwin. Do you ever ice skate in your down time?
What app do you use to edit video on your phone?
You didn’t mention gaiters. Did you just forget to mention them or have you opted to not use gaiters anymore?
The backpack looks like it doesn't fit at 2:45??
Do you think you would suit Harry Potter glasses. Would look sick with the beard imo
What happened to your Arc Blast?
Where do we purchase/find those black water bottle sports caps shown @08:36 in the video? Thank you! :)
Are you doing the West Highland Way in Scotland?
Nope!

Awesome awesome awesome
Where can i get those black sport caps?
Hey Darwin, was the black material on your backpack hot? Would you recommend a lighter color or was black fine?
Good video as ever, if you can make a living doing what you enjoy then good for you, stop worrying about what other people think about earning a few bob, good luck to you
Something I noticed in your pack reviews and back set up videos where do you put your tooth brush?

Well Darwin very rarely carries 7-8 days worth of food. He averages like 30 miles a day. If you pack your food right you can probably fit 10 days worth of food in a 14L bag.

Not too far off from excellent main stream ultra light tents from big Agnes, which are around $400
Six Moon Designs makes the Lunar Solo. It's a third of the price.
Have you tried using toothy tabs from lush cosmetics instead of tooth paste ? Might be worth a look :-)
Can the Z-pack pouches be attached to any pack? Right now I’m using the My Trail Co. pack.
What program do you edit with when on trail?
