    Aftermarket support makes things a little easier. They also could have matched the scx24 hardware to give it instant aftermarket support. Great video!!!

    • @michaelc3416
      @michaelc3416 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I had the same thoughts earlier today. They had a golden opportunity to capitalize on the SCX's already HUGE aftermarket, if they had just emulated some of the component specs. They could have made a "better" SCX24 with an already well developed aftermarket. And a strong aftermarket is a HUGE selling point for anything and everything.

      Match the scx24 and get sued by Horizon. Not the way to go. They’ll get acknowledged by aftermarket companies as their popular grows.

    • @michaelc3416
      @michaelc3416 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@DanPRC Directly copying, Perhaps. But using a twin C channel frame, using the same screw sizes and relative shock and link mounting points, axle stub diameters, etc., such that most aftermarket accessories already on the market for the SCX will directly transfer, or at least be easily adapted, to the FCX? Not an issue. I'm speaking of the simple things like wheel hexes, shocks, suspension links, etc. As it stands with the FCX, pretty much everything is proprietary and non-transferable. This means that any aftermarket manufacturer will have to take the gamble on tooling up to make parts specific to the FCX... or not, as the case may be. IF the truck gains wide popularity, then sure, that'll likely happen in time. But, then again, without an aftermarket, a lot of people will simply shy away, or "wait and see". Always a catch 22 with aftermarket, in that the aftermarket needs a product to provide for, and a product needs an aftermarket to enhance it's popularity. Had I been calling the shots on the design team here, I would have said, "Let's capitalize on the available aftermarket for the SCX as much as possible and we'll instantly make our truck more attractive to most potential buyers". The missed a great opportunity there, IMO. Especially with products such as this where mod'ing and customizing is a huge part of the hobby.

    Well damn! Been debating about ordering one of these since last night. Halfway through this video I was planning to just go ahead and order one since, if I order in the next 4 hours and 29 minutes, I would have it Sunday. But... My more logical side had been telling me to wait for more durability info to become available.... I was a bit concerned about the plastic diff and portal gears, and it looks like my worries were not unfounded. As interested as I am in this, I think I'll now put it on the back burner until either they correct the weakness, or the aftermarket catches up... Unfortunately, if they don't get the reliability resolved, as you say, it'll flop, and there will be no aftermarket...

  • @michaelc3416

    One cheap and easy way of adding weight to pretty much any beadlock wheel, on any RC, is lead sheeting. You can buy a 12" x 12" x 1/32" sheet of lead from Amazon for around $15 or so. And that's enough to do quite a few 1" wheels Cut the sheet into strips the appropriate width to fit your wheel rings and add a little tape to hold them in place. I use 3M vinyl tape as it's thin and fairly stretchy to hold things tight. On a 1" wheel with a 1/2" wide ring, one wrap of the lead adds approximately 11 grams. Add lead strips to get your weight distribution to your liking

    I took my atlas and changed out the axles for scx24 axles for the same reason plastic gears breaking. Lost speed to the point its almost boring to play with, but it has a ton more torque. Had to drop the servo to the axle in front, used svx24 high clearance links in rear and bottom of the front. It stretched the wheelbase some, cemter of the back tire is just about even with the taillights. It works for what we do with it, tow vehicles with goose neck trailer.

    It turns out that my right real portal gear did not strip on the axal or cogs. I opened it up and saw no problem. I checked the hub and the pin was gone. I found it and all is well, besides the embarrassment, but it needs to be said. I like the long wheelbase mod, maybe just a bit shorter so I will try that. I want to build a wooden flat bed with wooden rails and it would look better on a longer base. I ordered custom stickers for the doors. I hope they turn out sharp, but I will use them for a template and paint them. It's a nice trail truck in high that needs surgery to be a crawler. I consider this a keeper even if it breaks. As Spock said there are always possibilities.

      There should at least be replacement parts available at release. There are people out here running 3D printing businesses or parts businesses by themselves with zero employees besides themselves with better customer support. They didn’t have any issue getting me the truck within 2days of ordering (because they make sure those are stocked) why can’t they have some parts stocked as well? They just know where they really make their money is on the truck and they honestly care nothing about you once it’s sold because the hook has been set. Now you have to bug their parts. So they’ll send out thousands of these to TH-cam channels for free to get “positive reviews” which is what I was told to do for a freebie (and I declined) I have talked to them several times and not once have I been offered a gear for replacement or even the opportunity to buy one. People making excuses about supply chain issues for these companies is exactly why they do these things. They know they can get away with it. They all do it. Shipping delays are a serious issue and our order volume is probably no where near as high as FMS. Very frequently a shipping container full of parts for us will be delayed by weeks and sometimes months.
      I can offer you some hope. I'm a CAD designer, I also am very experienced with 3D printing. When I get my FCX24 I will look into the weak axle/gear issue and see if I can offer a 3D printed fix. The gears are so small it may not be possible, but it's worth a shot right!

      I appreciate the sub so much! I think one of the major things is to stay consistent with 1-3 good solid vids a wk if possible. Don’t just make a video to get a video posted though. I never go into it thinking “oh man, I need to get a video up today” Im always doing something with the RCs and honestly don’t even film probably 90% of what I do lol. Especially with the larger scale stuff. I don’t really shoot any of it. So take a look at what you had posted that did well and see if there is anything in common with those vids. My audience is mostly for the smaller scale stuff so I stick more to that & just sprinkle in the other stuff now and then. Keep the dead space to a minimum and just stick with it. It’s so hard to get rolling! If you enjoy it just stick with it and eventually it’ll grow. Wish I had better advice but that’s about all I know lol

      This one is actually much easier to get performance out of imo. It don’t need any electronics out of the box where the scx24 needs a servo,motor and usually an esc. I can handle the v2 esc, it’s smooth but the v1 is bad lol. This truck really needs no electronics. Only time will tell how long they last but I won’t even bother changing mine unless it’s just to test some new options as they come out. To me I could run it as is honestly!

      Honestly atm stock lol. Dlux fab is workin on some stronger cvds that will change the game I think but for now you can run the MofoRC ones and they are much better than stock dog bones. Adding weight or modifications to geometry should be held off until the internals have been updated. Blaming the plastic gears is silly. if you put drag slicks on your daily do you blame the OEM manufacturer because their driveshaft was too weak for the upgrade you did? Just enjoy the rig and wait for the aftermarket to catch up. It’s literally been released for a few days now.

    • @2fmrc
      @2fmrc  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah but I can’t get a truck and leave it alone. Rather start making it mine and break it than drive it stock for 2 minutes 😆. I fixed the issue and it’s really just a matter of they didn’t have the notch for the pin in the axle deep enough into the gear. I made the notch deeper in the gear so the pin actually catches better and it seems to be ok. Quite a few parts on the way so no worries either way lol

    Shame about the gears. It's good in a way as you get to let us know how their customer service is, though may be a bit tainted by your having a channel. So they may hop to it quicker than the average Joe.
    Given the time it takes for designing, prototyping, tooling up, marketing, etc, it will be interesting to see who spends the big bucks to come out with aftermarket first. I'm sure for guys like MoFo there's a bit of wait and see as to whether the rig catches on or is a failure. Be a business killer for the small guys to invest capitol in aftermarket parts design and the rig failing to catch on in sales.
