pitchfork has some terrible reviews but this one was exceptionally bad, they judge albums based on what type of album an artist should be making as apposed to actual criticism on the album and feedback to help improve the next artists album
I swear pitchfork has some kind of contractual obligation to be contrarian dipshits in 95% of their reviews. In almost every single major or semi-major label release their ranking is a noticeable outlier. I get that sometimes certain critics differ but it’s a pattern that appears over and over and over again. They gave Splendor and Misery a 5.3 for Christ’s sake. I feel like they exist purely to keep any given album’s Metacritic rating from being too high. It’s also clear that there’s an editorial bias against certain artists. Just a dogshit publication outside of their niche indie reviews.
Pitchfork are such clowns. It's like all the reviewers need the album they're reviewing to be trendy and well liked by the public immediately, no mixed reception. It's horrendous.

“Eaten Alive” sounds like Daveed rapping over the Hannibal Tv show soundtrack. The bit at the end is basically anytime Will Graham sees something with antlers.
Jonathan Snipes did say in the clipping. episode of What’s In My Bag that he’s a huge fan of Hannibal’s composer so that probably isn’t that coincidental to be honest. cool shit.

Yes! I got into them a month or so after Hamilton came out on Disney+, and I've been hyper addicted. Daveed is now in my top 5 rappers list. Dude is a MONSTER.
ryuman757 it’s funny people see Hamilton and think he’s PHENOMENAL, when Guns and Ships is probably the slowest bars he’s ever spit. I’m not saying it’s not good, I’m in love with Hamilton and everything about it, but I love when people find out the other magnificent stuff he can do.
It’s kind of surreal to see the Cosmogramma art still featured in so many of your videos because it was the review of that album that introduced me to this channel.
I prefer "There Existed An Addiction To Blood" but I think we can all agree that the way that these two albums came within a year of each other is legendary.
It was supposed to be even earlier, like back in Q1, but they delayed it due to circumstances. I think it works better coming out so close to Halloween though.

@@StringierHail56 I don't think Midcity did either personally but every album has been *atleast* an 8 or 9 at the lowest, one of the best hip-hip groups in the past 20 years.
Coming back to this review after finally listening to the record for myself. For these lesser-known albums and artists, I automatically have the stigma of assuming it’s just pretentious artsy-fartsy music (which I’m trying to get rid of), but this album blew me away. I would agree wholeheartedly that this a solid 9/10. Perfect for the Halloween season as well.
AOTY for me, hands down. Crazy to think clipping has given us more of the same without ever getting cringe or boring. Two years in a row they take the cake for me. Can’t wait for that interview.
no it's not that they couldn't get the rights, they did actually that's why marvin gaye, who was sampled on mind playing tricks on me and thus owns part of that song, also owns like 1/4th of say the name despite him literally not being on the song at all, cuz it sampled a song that he wuz sampled in. geto boys were totally cool with the interpolation, the problem is there was never any acapella produced for mind playing tricks on me. that's the reason why it's a pitch shifted recording of daveed and not a sample.
Yah moral of the story is fuck sampling laws cuz fucking Issac Hayes owns more of Say the Name then they do. Geto Boys themselves were chill apparently and Daveed facetimed with Scarface
your review of there was an addiction to blood was why I picked them up and listened to them so fucking much like its music and sound design porn for us audio nerds- the tricks the heavy layers of subtext in both lyrics and musical choices the atmosphere and it never skimps out, I dont like horror core normally but this shit actually scares me in a good way its like when I played silent hillt he first time up to that point I was always bored with horror and then I wasnt- then I was in it.
I'm intrigued what would have tipped the scales for you to award a 10 here Anthony? What was missing, cause this whole project is wall to wall excellence for me.
The interludes play into this album like crazy; Looking Like Meat > Drove > Eaten Alive is a cheeky add to the overall aesthetic The Wytchboard interlude > 96 Neve Campbell so simple, but adds so so much.
Say the Name, Check the Lock, Pain Everyday, and She Bad are some of my favorite Clipping songs ever. It's incredibly hard to choose since 99% of what they make is near perfect, but the beats and flows and lyrics on these are just perfect. Pain Everyday is by far the darkest, grimmest, most depressing fucking thing I've ever listened to, and it slaps hard. The idea that the dead are just these bitter, angry, envious, murderous lost souls who just waste away in purgatory and hate the living for the simple fact that we live is chilling. And Something Underneath brings out such Lovecraftian vibes, like the elder gods are about to awaken and the entire universe knows it's fucked.
I've been having a harder time getting into this one honestly? The songs have all been kind of blending into each other for me in a way that Existed didn't. Clippings music isn't always immediate though, I probably just need to sit with it a bit Edit: I've listened to it more and it's now probably my favorite Clipping album
There's a lot more empty space on this album than the last one. I felt similar my first listen, but then certain things started popping out in different tracks and I just keep hearing new things on every listen.
I feel you man, I can never get into albums on the first 2 listens I was kinda disappointed on first listen, addiction to blood was the same. But after sticking with it, some tracks start standing out and now i'm at the point where I really love it, think it's just a matter of letting it absorb, especially with clipping haha
As someone whow grew up a horror movie/horror media nerd kid (but abandoned it in recent years) this album brinks back a lot of nice nostalgia-esque vibes apart from just being really good music. moving, energetic, the ambient noise bits like the (what I assume is) insnane door fist smacking on 96' Neve Campbell for example just work really well. yeah i feel this thing
that's cuz this and TEAATB were originally supposed to be a single album. the decision to split it into two albums was made after they had already made every track. so since it's part 2 of TEAATB that's why there's no story.
These two LPs span a total of 4 records, the 8 sides are labeled from side A to Side H, so Clipping are obviously treating it as one project, so you got one project here with one story
Looking Like Meat is my favorite track so far, I love how noisy it is. Funny to hear Fantano say he doesn't like it for the same reasons I love it for.

enlacing is probably the best clipping track of all time - although a couple of songs on the self-titled (dominoes, summertime) might come close
GET YOUR ASS DOWN TO THE FLOOOOOR
Sometimes you just have an existential crisis in the club
Oh damn. This year has been killing it with music in spite of it all.
If anything, covid has let artists really reflect on the world and their life in a way that maybe they couldn't or wouldn't before..
I agree Espically the Slauson Malone EP, such a underated Gem
After the last clipping. album, I was so hyped for this LP. clipping. are so talented and underrated fr.
It’s a full LP
EP???
@@artistluke4 i meant LP lol
This album is so scary and sexy at the same time, I love it
I've been listening to this album on repeat. clippin. Is keeping the tradition of spooktober alive
Just give clipping. a 10/10 already!!!
clppng deserved a 10
@@StringierHail56 Splendor and Misery deserved a 10.
@@MintyDarkFinger Fuck it they all deserved 10s (maybe not wriggle tho. I wasn't a huge fan of Our Time)
@@StringierHail56 I don't think Midcity did either personally but every album has been *atleast* an 8 or 9 at the lowest, one of the best hip-hip groups in the past 20 years.
@@StringierHail56 clppng is easily the closest they have to a 10 imo. It’s so fucking dark and the story telling is easily the best
visions of melons growing hair
Coming back to this review after finally listening to the record for myself. For these lesser-known albums and artists, I automatically have the stigma of assuming it’s just pretentious artsy-fartsy music (which I’m trying to get rid of), but this album blew me away. I would agree wholeheartedly that this a solid 9/10. Perfect for the Halloween season as well.
Genuinely amazed that Looking like Meat is your least favorite
that track is up there in their discography, right next to Body and Blood imo
Omg YES I’m new to clipping, and Body & Blood and Looking Like Meat are my top 2 clipping songs so far
Clipping has never missed.
AOTY for me, hands down. Crazy to think clipping has given us more of the same without ever getting cringe or boring. Two years in a row they take the cake for me. Can’t wait for that interview.
Fun fact: they couldn't get the rights to the geto boys sample so it's just a twisted version of Daveed saying it
no it's not that they couldn't get the rights, they did actually that's why marvin gaye, who was sampled on mind playing tricks on me and thus owns part of that song, also owns like 1/4th of say the name despite him literally not being on the song at all, cuz it sampled a song that he wuz sampled in. geto boys were totally cool with the interpolation, the problem is there was never any acapella produced for mind playing tricks on me. that's the reason why it's a pitch shifted recording of daveed and not a sample.
@@chrissyjo420 ah yes you're right! I remember now
Yah moral of the story is fuck sampling laws cuz fucking Issac Hayes owns more of Say the Name then they do. Geto Boys themselves were chill apparently and Daveed facetimed with Scarface
Liked the review, but you didn’t have to bully Thomas Jefferson like that
2:37 Spittin' them Edgar Allan Poe bars!
your review of there was an addiction to blood was why I picked them up and listened to them so fucking much like its music and sound design porn for us audio nerds- the tricks the heavy layers of subtext in both lyrics and musical choices the atmosphere and it never skimps out, I dont like horror core normally but this shit actually scares me in a good way its like when I played silent hillt he first time up to that point I was always bored with horror and then I wasnt- then I was in it.
You should put subtitles randomly in the review, it’ll be funny
I'm intrigued what would have tipped the scales for you to award a 10 here Anthony? What was missing, cause this whole project is wall to wall excellence for me.
The interludes play into this album like crazy;
Looking Like Meat > Drove > Eaten Alive is a cheeky add to the overall aesthetic
The Wytchboard interlude > 96 Neve Campbell so simple, but adds so so much.
drove is such an incredibly creepy interlude.
I had a feeling this would get at least a 9. It’s my AOTY.
If the Track was Named Looking like Tofu this would have been a 10.
i wouldn’t have ever heard of clipping without this review, thank you for introducing me to one of my favourite artists
Shoutout to Clipping! This album earning a Grammy would really help the Grammy's legitimacy tbh
It won’t sadly
I feel dumb, the album art was so similar I didn't realise it was a new album
glad you're reviewing clipping
I absolutely love their track Body and Blood - anyone else??
I've been having a harder time getting into this one honestly? The songs have all been kind of blending into each other for me in a way that Existed didn't.
Clippings music isn't always immediate though, I probably just need to sit with it a bit
Edit: I've listened to it more and it's now probably my favorite Clipping album
There's a lot more empty space on this album than the last one. I felt similar my first listen, but then certain things started popping out in different tracks and I just keep hearing new things on every listen.
I feel you man, I can never get into albums on the first 2 listens I was kinda disappointed on first listen, addiction to blood was the same. But after sticking with it, some tracks start standing out and now i'm at the point where I really love it, think it's just a matter of letting it absorb, especially with clipping haha
So happy with this review. This is easily one of clipping.'s best albums, it's amazing
pain everyday is definitely one of the best tracks of the year
Great! What should you review next? Open Mike Eagle, obviously!
Dude is obsessed with industrial hip hop
Halloween on a Saturday plus new clipping album... yay
I see no lies. Album of the year.
The transition from wytchboard to 96 neve campbell is godlike
candlesticks in the dark, visions of bodies being burned......
I was expecting this video for days now. I'm glad I didn't wait for nothing. AOTY material from clipping once more.
The high-pitched tone in Body for the Pile gives me a bit of a headache but otherwise this album is awesome
'Do I Hate Mars Bars'.
No.
Yes.
Yes
@@yusufhaidarraihan8674 No.
@William Magee No.
Got here by your best albums of 2020. It’s sooooo good! Thanks!
Best album of them since CLPPNG
i back this comment!
One of your best reviews this year!
I THINK SO TOO!
:)
Facts
I liked it about as much as I liked There Existed an Addiction to Blood, which was a lot.
Pain Everyday reminds me of songs from Bowie’s Blackstar album, it’s that jazzy rhythm and that blissful outro
Clipping still underrated
One of my fav clipping albums so far. TEAAB was great but damn, so many cuts on this are up there with the best clipping tunes
This was excellent and so was that Open Mike Eagle album, Melon. You sharing your thoughts on it? 👀
I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS REVIEW FOR A MONTH!!! Got that early stream from pre-ordering the LP. Glad Fantano didn't let me down.
Your mouth is a private investigator and your mustache is his hat.
TND Album of the Year 2020. Calling it.
"Flames ain't shit to a demon"
SAY THE NAME
When Make Them Dead came on I screamed "YES! Back to their Midcity sound!"
Well I’ve never heard of these artists. But it certainly sounds unique lol
Hey, we agree on this one! Tied for aoty...with Deftones.
no story song on this album, smh my head
Shaking my head my head
that's cuz this and TEAATB were originally supposed to be a single album. the decision to split it into two albums was made after they had already made every track. so since it's part 2 of TEAATB that's why there's no story.
There was a "story" released this year tho
These two LPs span a total of 4 records, the 8 sides are labeled from side A to Side H, so Clipping are obviously treating it as one project, so you got one project here with one story
@@chrissyjo420 sorry dude, just realized I've basically repeated your comment
Told my homey this was gonna be a 10 for sure. Your review of Looking Like Meat cost me 5 bucks melon.
This would’ve been a 10 if he wasn’t so avid about veganism
Rap flow was amazing. Theme delivered consistently. Lots of imagery going on lots to offer on this record. I think the score was well deserved
if looking like meat is the worst track then it’s a great album
awesome review! i love when you get as insightful as this.
DOES CLIPPING. EVER DISAPPOINT?
Literally never
Looking Like Meat is my favorite track so far, I love how noisy it is. Funny to hear Fantano say he doesn't like it for the same reasons I love it for.
