    KISS with the right Producer can sound GREAT! Danger is from Creatures, probably one of their best sounding records sonically. Eric Carr's drum sound is AWESOME!
    Dynasty, not so much haha..that's when they were going down in flames. First 4 studio records are all great, although not the best Production, did not capture their live sound. This is why they did the first KISS alive record, STILL their best album of all time. So heavy, incredible sound very nicely engineered by Eddie Kramer who did Zeppelin and Jimi!!

    Ahh Narvik broke the seal with Kiss first! I have a pretty kick-ass Kiss marathon lined up for later myself! They have great stuff and they have mediocre stuff. Glad your mind is opened brother! Very sweet marathon Narvik, I highly enjoyed my friend. Hey Nick, I bought that T-shirt back in 1981😂!

    Yeah the Vinnie Vincent era was approximately 2 years. It was KISS heaviest time. He played on Creatures and Lick it up. Another Heavy Metal Album, Animalize came after Lick it up. The 70‘s were more a kind of Rock n‘ Roll. The 79-80 was a Soft Rock time.
    On 1985 started the Hair Metal and Hard Rock era of KISS with Bruce Kulick. So KISS changed their sound, when the Leadguitar player and the Drummer changed.

    Back in high school, a girl who was interested in me took me to a KISS concert. She paid for the tickets, and we took her car, a jacked up 67' Chevy SS. Sorry, but after that concert, I lost interest, even with that car. 😅 The members of KISS are by no stretch of the imagination master musicians. Hell, their guitar and bass solos consist of just a few notes, and the crowd even went crazy while Gene or Paul just pounded on a note or two for ten minutes. Laughable. Their songs are nothing much either. Sure, they have their hits, but the lyrics and melodies are abysmal. One high school summer, I was painting my aunt's house for some summer work. My cousin had some KISS albums, so I listened to their solo stuff, basically, each member cut an album. Atrocious. The lyrics were sophomoric at best, and the music was just two or three chord claptrap. Just imagine if they never wore that makeup. They would have faded away a long time ago.

      I couldn't agree more. Me and my friends grew up listening to Zep, ELP, Yes, Genesis, Rush, Deep Purple. To us, KISS was a rude joke. The worst.

      But they laughed all the way to the bank. Gene and Paul are very very wealthy.

    Pariah with Michael Jackson on vocals. I kid you not. Not the same guy, obviously. Saw them supporting at a Venom secret gig at the Marquee club in '89. Venom played as Sons of Satan, and only about a dozen people turned up. It was just me and another guy down the front for Pariah. They were great. Steve Ramsey & Graeme English went off and formed Skyclad with Martin Walkyier (Sabbat) on vocals.

    • @mvunit3
      @mvunit3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is a "joke" with Nick's "Nickisms" where he pronounces _Jetro_ Tull, and then Lexi (and a listener) saying "Deathrow Tull'! It could be a Death Metal version of Tull", and I replied . . .
      "Well, there is a Thrash version of that, a Folk-Metal band called 'Skyclad' who practically invented the genre".
      Don't even get me started about Martin's astounding lyrics and his 2 albums with *Sabbat* and I'm a HUGE Skyclad fan (with Walkyier) too. I got to meet Sabbat in LA when they reformed and went on a limited World Tour.

    • @SavageGrace
      @SavageGrace ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mvunit3 Aye, Skyclad was a great band. Probably still are, but I haven't listened to anything after Walkyier left. Saw Sabbat about a dozen times back in the day, and the Return to the Sabbat reformation. They supported Candlemass in London (July 2002).

    The best KISS album is the one that broke them to the USA--KISS Alive! There's nothing soft about that album. It features the best songs from their first three studio releases, and it was the album where most fans came onboard. The song Black Diamond would be a good place to start with that double LP live recording.

    Hi Nick I watched a lot of 80's rock on late evening tv shows and enjoyed the videos & live sections when many groups were with long hair & long permed hair. Kiss with their make up, put on some great live music and were an act as much as a rock group with spitting fire or blood from Gene Simmons. Their live album "Kiss Alive" [ volume 1 ] is still a favourite of mine, before they went commercial. I have Rush, "Test For Echo" album, but I have to be honest ... It's not an album I play very much. Never heard Pariah. Quite good. Interesting choice of tracks and I did enjoy the overall marathon. Thankyou. Byee Jim X

    Following Rush through their careers , when a new album came out you were never completely sure what sound/style you would hear. Many times I would come away a little disappointed because it wasn't want what I was expecting or hoping for. But their albums always warranted repeated plays and then the one I thought I didn't like some became a favourite. Signals being a prime example , didn't listen for years then when I did it became one of my top Rush albums.

    Rush's Test for Echo has my pro and contra : it's a great rock song, I like the riffs and everything, but as the other songs after 1990 it's moving away from the Rush I loved most.

    I saw a no makeup version of Kiss on a bill opening up for Whitesnake when Steve Vai was touring with them in 1990. Bruce Kulick, Kiss' guitarist at the time, was OK. Vai had a solo spot which he opened by doing a Hendrix inspired version of the Canadian anthem, and he played his heart-shaped guitar among others.

    Kiss always had something very cartoonish about them. So going disco was not too bad a move, their "disco" tracks sound better than what they sold as "rock" tracks - but each to their own ✌
