  • ► You can now get these lights in RGB: lightmodehelme...
** Sept 3 Update: An RCMP officer emailed me after watching this vid. Him and his colleague tried to find a law that prohibits the use of helmet lights in BC, Canada. They could not find such law therefore it is LEGAL in BC, Canada. Disregard my statement at 6:36 saying it is illegal there. **
"Are LightMode helmets legal?" - I get asked this all the time so hopefully this video can shed some light on the matter. If you ride with a LightMode helmet, please share your police encounter stories, if any. If you've never had a police encounter with your LightMode helmet, please share as well.
    Q: Are these water resistant?
    A: Yes.
Q: Will it work with my Icon, Shoei, HJC, etc.?
A: Yes, any motorcycle helmet. You can print a PDF template to test fit before you buy: Printable templates: lightmodehelme...
Q: What colors can I get these in.
A: Previously, distinct colors. Now you get all the colors in one kit with the new Night Shift (link at the very top).
Q: Can you ship to X country?
A: Yes, we ship worldwide. Free shipping to USA and Canada.

    2. Yes, I ship worldwide.
    3. Yes, the lights will probably fit your helmet. You can test fit before you buy by printing a PDF template here: lightmodehelmets.com/templates

Cop shootings in the US are blown out of proportion, certainly there is always room for improvement but to suggest that is the US's biggest problem is a bit silly.
I would argue our biggest problem stateside is political polarization and media sensationalism. Bit of an anecdote so take it as you will:
A family member than ran a dog rescue group got slammed on media for stealing a dog because he was a bad, awful, evil person when in reality it was a false report by neighbor and ended up slipping through the cracks (I dont remember the specifics).
The media never apologized for lying about him, they made their buck off ruining his life and his business failed because of it. After all who wants to do business with a guy who would steal a families dog, people that knew him did their best to clear his name but word of mouth only reached so far.
While the scale is off I think media of every level is like this in the US, rushing a story for a quick buck and assuming the worst of people.

I've been a LEO for 16 years, I can tell you that it's a grey area because if you have the lights flickering that's a ticket for unlawful operating of emergency lights, if it's flashing blue or red that's impersonation of a LEO and that's a felony.
So it depends on both sides.

    • @aaronb7949
      @aaronb7949 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Police should be encouraging these lights, they increase visibility of riders to other motorists and pedestrians, red and blue LED's aren't copyrighted by LEO's, the company could circumvent that altogether by just making them RGB and programable to any desired colour which would sell more product, add more variety and alleviate concerns by LEO's that the lights are impersonating LEO/emergency response lights.

@@evasmojang It can definitely be a strong smell if someone is intoxicated enough. Growing up with an alcoholic father, I didn’t even have to be right next to him, just in the same room, and I could smell the alcohol coming off of him. Sometimes he didn’t even have to speak in order for me to smell it. Those officers were DEFINITELY close enough to smell alcohol on someone’s breath if they were significantly intoxicated. If you watch a lot of DUI bodycam videos, it’s extremely common for cops to put in their report that they detected a strong smell of alcohol on the person, which in addition to the person’s reckless driving, was what gave them grounds to do sobriety tests and ultimately make an arrest.
Alcohol has a very pungent and strong odor when a person is heavily intoxicated, and as the other person mentioned, the intoxicated person is almost always completely unaware of it. In addition to seeing if they could smell any alcohol on a person’s breath, these officers doing these traffic stops are also asking questions to see if they can detect any changes in speech patterns (like slurring of words) or altered mental states. They are also going to be watching the individual’s eyes to see if they notice any ocular abnormalities caused by alcohol. When properly trained, there’s actually a lot that they can discern from that one brief and simple interaction/question, and seeing if they can smell any alcohol from the person is one of those things.

I wish they would update the motorcycle gear and accessories laws. I get having restrictions on things like lightmode helmets while driving. Like no blinking or strobing, or emergency colors. But a lot of states allow a underglow on bikes legally now because they realize it helps a lot at night. They just dont allow color changes, blinking, strobes, or emergency color combos while on the road driving. So a single color that doesnt change should be legal. Its a better option than reflective tape. I would argue that lights are less distracting as the light is visible constantly. Not like with reflective strips, which a vehicle has to have lights pointed at to work, so its more of a pop up warning. And it would be DOPE as hell to see cops using them.

In the Uk, forward facing lights have to be white and rear facing have to be red. Dont know about side facing lights.
We have LED for helmets already that interact with the bike, that have brake and indicators.

The Policeman literally just had the kid in him pop off, but he remembers he should be professional, you can actually hear it by the way he talks LOL
