What parts availability like for these? I've seen a few on marketplace for very attractive prices, I'm tempted to pull the trigger, a storied Italian bike for peanuts. I pretty much get there will be next to nothing locally, but as long as there isn't anything which I couldn't get from an online vendor, then it would be a realistic proposition.
i found stuff eventually, there are odd bits that can cause issues and arent easy to find, but the Cagiva community is a great bunch. personally, i would say they are one of the most underrated bikes out there. check stator magnets and try and find one that has some spares with it, owners do tend to collect them
@@barebonesmc Thanks for the reply. I have been reading up some more on what scant info I can dig up the electric starter is a weakspot due to its position where it gets constantly exposed to the elements. Shadetree mechanics on my local FB group mention that the internals off a yammy XTZ 250 can be made to fit.
@@kenon6968 honestly, i think the biggest issue with the starter isnt its position, its the way it mounts and the fact most people are too lazy to check bolts are tight after a ride. if the bolts work slightly loose, the starter moves away slightly and the gears dont mesh properly, so everything gets worn out very quickly because everything is slightly off square. the system actually works really well if you keep an eye on it, the stator magnets coming away is the major one, better to strip and rebond if in any doubts
I was lucky, all the bonding was fine on mine but if sections of the bonding agent are starting to peel just strip it n bond it up again, hadnt heard of the XTZ swap. if you post that on the Cagiva forums there are a few people who might appreciate it 🙂
