    The sudden and dramatic disappearing of the language in 1916-17 from large regions, all at once (because of the genocide, of course), is something never seen in other cases, by those who are accustomed to Costas Melas's maps, and it is really impressive! Chilling!

    • @bahadirunuvar
      @bahadirunuvar 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Previously, only Westerners wrote history books. Fortunately, we now know that these are not true. This was just the West misleading the whole world with their perception. How can so many people disappear in a few years? So the Turks must have slaughtered all the Armenians. However, the reality is not like that. Those who first lived there as Armenians did not disappear and continued their lives as citizens of the Republic of Turkey. Because there is no racial discrimination in the Republic of Turkey. Everyone is a Turkish citizen and there is no discrimination against anyone. However, the narrator has presented such a narrative to make you believe that "the Turks destroyed the Armenians en masse". Westerners do this all the time. I suggest you look at it from other perspectives to avoid falling into Western perception games.

    It's amazing how far Armenians used to populated both east and west until the late 20th century. And how it all got reduced to a small country and the diaspora, which out numbers it.
    Unfurtunately, As far as Azerbaijan text books are concerned none of this would be true, just as every other damage Turks and Azeribaijanies incurred on Armenians before, during, and after the genocide.

In Central and Northern Anatolia as well as a few regions like Malatya, faint stripes should've been seen up to the 60's or thereabouts as the survivors still remained for a while until they either migrated to Istanbul or left the country. In a few southeastern regions, descendants of survivors have resurfaced and there are a couple church attenders.

Urartu literally translates to Armenia in Old Persian "In the 6th century BC, with the emergence of Armenia in the region, the Urartu and Urartians were synonymously referred to as Armenia and Armenians, in two of the three languages used in the Behistun inscription". We know for a fact that Armenians had been in Armenian Highlands for at least 7811 years from carbon dating of Neolithic burials who's maternal DNA was identical to modern Armenians

Armenian is closely related to Greek and the extinct language Phygian (spoken in western Anatolia in the late Bronze Age) and must have been directly adjacent to them in its early history, perhaps as far east as central Anatolia, but more likely in the southern Balkans, before crossing into Anatolia during the Bronze Age Collapse.

      The Armenian prehistory is quite obscure but there are evidence for early Bronze Age indo-european settlement in upper Kura river, linguistic studies shows formation of Armenian with elements from Caucasian and Hittite loans at least 1300/1200 BC, much before the arrival of Phrygians, and the mysterious Azzi-Hayasa suits with the period and the area as long as linguistically with the endonym of Armenia.

      The Greek-Phrygian-Armenian hypothesis is invalid, and has been so for some 50 years. It was originally derived from Herodotus and Strabo, which believed the Armenians were Thracian/Phrygian colonists of Urartu. None of those claims have been supported by any genetic evidence or linguistic. Armenian is as close to Greek as it is to Persian... Phonetically, it is nothing like either. Just look at the word for commander for each. Dioikitis-Sparapet-Spahbod, thats Greek, Armenian and Persian. Genetic evidence shows no relationship with Armenians and Balkan groups, Armenians have mostly J2 and R1b haplogroup, giving zero credibility to the Greco-Armenian language theory.

    Not sure what the shadings signify in terms of density but I think the presence of Armenians - even during the middle Byzantine period - is a rather too extensive as far as Anatolia and the Pontus is concerned. Again - this is dependent on what the shadings signify.

      The Armenian prehistory is quite obscure but there are evidence for early Bronze Age indo-european settlement in upper Kura river (after 2300 BC), linguistic studies shows formation of Armenian with elements from Caucasian and Hittite loans at least 1200 BC, much before the arrival of Phrygians, and the mysterious Azzi-Hayasa suits with the period and the area as long as linguistically with the endonym of Armenia.
