- 3 sisters briefly reunited after approx., 30yrs apart. In Ashton 1990.
This was made primarily for our children but thought others may get something out of it.
The sisters diaspora was to Canada,Australia and one remained in the UK, two have since shook of this mortal coil, RIP girls.
I'm watching this in 2024. I wish i could step into the video and go back in time.
1950s/early 60s before the labour council destroyed the town.
I watched this video a couple of years back with my grandad just before he passed away he loved it brought a tear to my eye seeing it again .
Absolutely brilliant. used to love shopping in Ashton back then, great to see the Indoor market how it was before the fire. it's never been the same since. Sadly Ashton town centre has massively declined and not a shadow of what it once was. this video is very nostalgic thanks for uploading.
Great video of busy shopping time great memories... Sad to see how the yrs and council have killed it... Wel. Done
This is fascinating!! Seeing how it used to be compared to now. Thanks for sharing mercian900.
I was around 3 years old when this video was taken and i have fond memories of my mum dragging me around the market hall on a Saturday afternoon.
Remember Alan?
When this video was taken i wasn't even born yet! crazy to watch.
I used to love going to Ashton. Not any more sadly.
What a brilliant video!!! Ashton market when it had customers! There are more traffic wardens than shoppers now. Great days, great days. Thank you for posting.
Brilliant vidio ,I have'nt seen any other real footage of inside the old market from before the fire . I know it's about your family story , but for everyone else who remembers A-U-L way back (and from way before) it's a great bit of nostalgic film .
Many Thanks ,
such a shame that more of us did'nt record the last century .
Man! I will never forget the smell of the solvents from that shoe repair and key cutting place in the indoor market.
Thanks for sharing this took me right back I was 9 when this was made my gran and grandad live in ashton and used to always take me there every Saturday morning
So many perms! love it, thanks for posting
I used to live near the top of Penny Meadow on Mossley Road until I left England in 1982. Nice to see a bit of Ashton again.
Time travel, was hoping to spot someone I recognize 😊❤️
Wowww this is awesome. I remember "Stuart Electronics" on that street. Not sure if it was there in 1990 but it definitely was in the later 90's.
Thank you so much for uploading this xx
I remember the toy stall on the indoor market. Don’t think it was on the video but great vid 👍🏻
Amazing! It's thriving! local business doing well, plenty of shops and people. Reasonable prices. Nothing like that now! 70 percent of that has gone, it's a poverty stricken ghost town.
Andy C I know it’s dead nowadays:(
Everythings just closed
I moved to Ashton j2 years before this video was shot. I was only going to stay 6 month, I am still here. 😂
I was born in 1990 and grew up in Tameside. Fond memories of the inside market looking like that.
This is so interesting, we own the hardware stall and its lovely to see the old stall before the fire. Thankyou for uploading this.:)))
OMG I miss that lighting stall!
Ashton looks almost the same today...
I spent many a Saturday at VU Data on Stamford Street then a chip muffin at the Wooden Spoon in the bus station. Good days.
Who remembers the video shop with about three floors full of videos you could rent? 😂
That market was out of this world
Anyone remember Alan’s stall back in the 80s?
@5:46 that shop on the left is the tobacconist??
That sandwich shop at 5:16 was really good ! Could not beat there turkey salad sarnies!!
Well done
Look how busy it is not like that now, its funny how they pedestrianised the town centre and now nobody goes same as stalybridge.
Joy to see how Ashton a proud northern town was look at it now still best poeple there full of foreigners all shops gone pound shops and beggars
I'm very proud to be born in Ashton, but the amount of racism people from here harbour is pretty depressing.
Don’t be racist get a life
Not a foreigner in sigh or even a pound shop for that matter
Michael Henderson - I was just round the corner kidder. Don't fool yourself
That shop was owned by the Singh brothers, you racist git
Back in the 90s Ashton just had a small Pakistani / Indian community, a lot of Africans coming in now from places like Droylsden.
And
By which presumably you mean a non-white person? Hate to break it to you, but 'foreigners' come in lots of different colours - even white.
Big up Lovlees!!!
This will be me in a couple of weeks. I grew up in Ashton and worked at Tameside Council... But have been living in Australia and returning for a visit after 10 years of being away. I am half excited / half terrified 😂
I’d be terrified, I moved to France 11 years ago from Dukinfield, when I go back to visit Tameside i can’t wait to get home to France. It’s a lawless dump of place now. Enjoy your visit
What was your visit like Dave? Was it fun or no?
@@Zoe-dr5ps It was good thanks! But sad, as visiting my mum who is ill. I went to the market but I was sad to see it wasn't half as busy as in this video. I also went to Bow Street where the chemist used to be on the corner of the market as that's where I met my partner, she worked at that chemist and we used to meet up for lunch - this was 30 years ago, now me and her live with our kids in Australia! Cheers, Dave.
I was 25 when ths was shot. Where did the time go?
I was 5, can't believe I'm gonna be 40 next year.
Was that Julie Goodyear in the café with the hat on ?
Well spotted. Ashton used to be a popular place for the Corrie stars in the 70s/80s. I remember particularly Pat Phoenix (Elsie Tanner) often seen around.
Could not film in there like that now.
Why not?
@@GoodJobLittleBuddy well you could but with more hassle
Great video and great memories too. I hope you like my videos of equal quality. Cheers
Look at the diffence 1990 it was packed now its empty
It looks like someone took a 1990's camera and filmed Ashton with it in 2013.
1.39 for 4 cans of lager.. jesus
I was 3 years old
Classic cars wow
That fruit shop on penny meadow is still there
No point blaming immigrants for the underlying problems which necessitate immigration, guys. These people are needed to serve the older generations and their/your pensions. Without immigration we're absolutely buggered.
Now, if the rich weren't syphoning all the money into their Bermuda/Panama/Gibraltar shell companies instead of paying some taxes, maybe the roads wouldn't knacker your springs, maybe we'd be able to afford to fill the car up and heat your home in the winter, and maybe, just maybe my generation could afford to flipping breed some children to pay for our pensions.
But nope - we let them ruin our planet and steal our wealth and blame the people who come to plug the holes. Don't let them divide us.
I agree that the government and elites have created a society that cannot afford to raise a family. But, had we not kept the 2 party system on rotation, things may be different. And I really think our pensions being safe is completely secondary to the destruction of our culture, heritage and identity. And if you think dirty, intolerant Muslims...who can't stand us. And sub Saharan Africans who are just here for freebies and to harass girls, and commit crime, are gonna see us as 'united'...you have got another thing coming. Unbelievable.
Luvlies
Penny meadow hasn't changed much
Was that an american at 5:57? Strange to see an american in ashton of all places during the early 90's
I go to Ashton regularly you should come to oldham
Penny meadow’s not changed much 😂
