Shady Sands exists in some of the games. the first city you ever go to, in the first game, is shady sands. And it was actually founded by vault dwellers! And The New California Republic worked for real, like a country with elections and all…

The "President of the Government" is named Sorrel Booker, wears a white suit, with a white bowtie. In the early 80's TV show, "The Dukes of Hazzard", the corrupt man that runs Hazzard County, is Boss Hogg. He wears a white suit, with a white bowtie. The name of the actor, that plays Boss Hogg, is Sorrell Booke. I caught this, because I'm a old fart.
The overseer of vault 4 is Chris Parnell. Most notably he plays Morty's dad Jerry in Rick and Morty, Cyrill Figgis, in Archer, and several other comedic roles. One of his lesser known parts is always playing Santa in the christmas episodes of Eureka.
Price estimation for single vault (depending on power source and size ) was 400 - 650 billion dollars each. That times 122 of known vaults... Yeah, you get the picture...
It’s pretty funny that The Ghoul sewed Lucy’s finger on himself. A constant reminder that there is still good in the world. And being his trigger finger, her finger is technically the “little killer” that he finds.
Cooper Howard discusses buying a "ranch up in Bakersfield" (presumably Bakersfield, California) in this episode. Funny story- Vault 12 is situated beneath Bakersfield, so if they needed to go into a vault, Cooper's family would have to use that one (assuming they had moved to Bakersfield). Bakersfield's Vault 12 was an experimental vault whose purpose was to study what would happen in the event that a major radiation leak happened to an enclosed community. Toward this end, Vault 12's door was designed to not seal properly- which caused the vault to flood with radiation when the bombs fell, and exposed its inhabitants to lethal levels of radiation. The few who did survive all became ghouls, and Bakersfield became known as "Necropolis". What remained of the community of original dwellers-turned-ghouls was ultimately destroyed by agents of the Master during the events of Fallout 1. So.. I'm glad Barb talked Cooper out of buying that ranch in Bakersfield.
100% this is why they chose this scenario of "bakersfield" being mentioned by THE GHOUL HIMSELF WHO TURNED INTO A GHOUL. thats how u know they made the show with love.
@Peoe500 that's a really interesting idea, especially since we have no idea where he actually went on horseback ( I also have no idea how much distance he'd have to travel)
Honestly, don't bother trying to explain. Once people decide they don't like him, they stop trying to understand his motivations and just default to disliking everything he does.
Max is basically just your regular player on their first playthrough, figuring out what they can and what they shouldn't do. "I wonder what would happen if I took this guy's power armor?"
It didn't make the edit but during the wrap party, Coop walks past a poster of his movie "A Man and his Dog". Its a reference to "A Boy and His Dog", an older post-apocalyptic film of which the Fallout games borrowed heavily 😯
Which came out in the mid to late 1970s. Pretty good movie, albeit a bit weird in the middle of the film, but all in all 10/10 movie, classic definitely.
Maximus is not a bad guy. He was saved by brotherhood and grew up there. They didn’t give him a proper education. So his social behavior stayed as a little boy. Same as Lucy, grew up in a vault and the surface world is totally new to her. But they learn fast to adapt.
Shadysands was an existing city in the New California Republic. It was the biggest of the original five locations that made up the Republic - Shadysands, The Hub, the state of Los Angeles, Maxson, and Dayglow - and Shady was the first city in the Republic. You save the daughter of the villager elder in the first game when Shady is nothing more than a village that was founded by former vault dwellers and the young daughter, named Tandi, goes on to be an enterprising woman that spends her life turning Shadysands into a functioning city. There's a picture of her on their $100 dollar bill. More over, the New California Republic by the time Shadysands "falls" so to speak indicated on that chalk board the Republic is comprised of numerous settlements, several large cities, and ranges as far north as Oregon, as far south as Baja California, and extends from the coastline of California to Las Vegas in Arizona. It has a population of a little more than 700k people. It's one of the reasons so many people in the community are wondering what's happened to the other towns and cities in California since the Fall of Shadysands. Also, unfortunately, due to some date issues on the board in this episode, the ages of a couple of the characters, and some general issues a part of the community has with Bethesdsa it led to a situation a couple weeks back where people in the community thought the show runners were retconning and removing a game from the timeline. It was a mess but, thankfully, one of the producers of the games in the series let it be known nothing like that was happening and put out all nerdy fires and made everyone put down their keyboard shaped pitch forks.

That's Lower Falls in Yellowstone Nat'l Park. The biggest waterfall there (308 ft tall).
