This is such a great video. I’m 23 right now but one day I’ll have my own house with space big enough for garden and chickens and have saved this video so I can look back.
you probably dont care but does someone know a method to log back into an Instagram account..? I stupidly lost the account password. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me.
@Damian Zachariah i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff now. I see it takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
Happy birthday hun 🎉🎂!!!! That coop is beautiful 😍!!!! My birthday is April 14th. I haven't gotten a physical birthday present from my better half for 8 years now. I'm his caregiver (he's an injured vet) so normally I try to make a nice meal and that's it. However my gift is having him and our 4 kids ❤️.
I liked the electric stapler that sure is a handy tool. Todd, i liked your analogy of adding weight to the coop being like putting just one more thing in your back pack till it weighs a ton.
I have seen some coops where the wheels are on a leaver and you can raise and lower the wheels and lock them in the down position by "over centering" the leaver. I would look for an old lawn mower and use the wheels in a "dual" configuration which would give more flotation.
Did you use t-one 11 on the coop, that shits heavy. Other than that I think you know I'm your # 1 fan, I love the chicken tractor, but he won't build me one, maybe I'll hit my daughter up, she's a wood worker, some day I'll show up on email some stuff she's built me, Rachel you would love the jelly cabinet she built me for my canning stuff, it's double the width of a reg jelly cabinet & has 4 shelves in it, I can fit about 4 quart cases on each shelve. It's just the best & > really needed it, I only have a few cabinets so it really works like a pantry for me.
Would you suppose that if you had put sled feet on the bottom of the bottom? It would be much easier to move and perhaps have retractable wheels in case you had to lift it otherwise?
I'm thinking of a type of mobile chicken tractor for my currently 5 but hoping for 9 hens. They were free range at our old property, but our new property has an eagle's nest in the backyard. I like my hens, and want them to have some mobility rather than stuck in a stationary run. Now that you've had a year of use, how does it work and would you change anything.
I know that was a lot of comments... maybe it will help the channel a bit, T & R you are doing a good thing here showing people that they can do it too!
Question: do you think the chickens will feel the cold breezes as you have not got a solid floor in there house or laying area. ???? But you have that access door which would be plenty enough to clean it out.
how did this work out for you over the winter? Did you keep them in the chicken tractor or move them back into the bigger coop for the winter? Thank you for sharing.
Maybe some sort of lever on each side that raises and lowers the wheels, with bigger wheels and a long enough lever Rachel should have no problem raising each side by herself. Don't forget a locking mechanism to hold the wheels down during moves. If I could post a picture, I would of what I am describing.
I kinda know what you mean, lines right up with what I had in my head I bet. There's a company who makes a setup like this out of steel, but they're expensive.
I actually really like that design. I am planning to add chickens next year and this year to build a coop and run area for them. Something like that would work really well.
Nice work I have 7 pairs of chicken do you think they can fit in this cabin and the other question is that I live in a very hot weather Middle East +115 degrees what is the changes I should add to make them happy appreciate the answers big thanks I need help
This is brilliant, thank you. One thing I am missing though, how do you protect from predators coming into the run from the bottom? Normally people bury hardware cloth two feet deep around the run or make the entire floor from it. Yours seems to be open.
We often observe foxes hunt during the day where we live. I guess they are particularly aggressive around here. A neighbour also lost his dog to a coyote during the day. I really like your design though and I am going to use it, but add a 3” by 4” wire mesh to the floor. They will still be able to pick on grass and eat slugs, etc while being safe.
Would I have them go into the closed portion and then move the tractor? So they wouldn’t get their toes caught and dragged in the wire? I want to have the chickens in a field and we do have coyotes etc.
Hey I just built me one pretty much identical to the one u made. I studied your videos and made it very similar. Was gonna show u a picture but not sure how I do it on TH-cam. Thanks for the video!!
Good build i made my one 48 inches plus 48 inches for the back covered with tin sheeting A FRAME i built it out off 2 inch sq tube fully welded with a 2 foot wide stripsof 4 x4 inch dog mesh on its flat all around under it to keep foxes out , ,made an extension on 2 poles welded to 20 inch 3/8 plates which i move around with heavy duty dog mesh 6 feet high , i put two heavy duty trailer wheels on a swing up so i can move it to new ground ,i cut all the downgrade steel with a cheapo plasma cutter tacked it together , lots of cheap steal 1/12 and 2 inch steel from shipping container companies a few bucks a length.if ya handy with a welder .its moves easy with the wheels 2 inches off centre to the back, tow it around with my car if need to be .connect the mesh with self drilling metal screws and big washers.
So your lovely assistant/wifes name is Rachel, so after chicken house, is it possible to switch from 2x4 to 2x2 to drop weight. Now be mindful I'm not a carpenter I'm and ironworker. But do like my chickens.
Some boards that are important for strength I kept as 2x4, few others were 2x2 and maybe even a 2x3 mixed in. Hard to remember now, this was a while ago.
I love it! How many chickens will you keep in this mobile coop? And did you cover or cut off the protruding screws from the hinges in the nest box? Will you replace the chicken wire with hardware cloth when your hardware cloth finally comes in?
Won't replace chicken wire. I plan on keeping around 8 chickens in it. I'll have to check and see if he filed down the screws or not, I know he did in several locations
New to chickens and love the mobility of this, quick question, are you using any bedding in the coop or are droppings just dropping through the hardware cloth?
We have 6 now. Maybe 10-12 max. More chickens, the more often you'll have to move to fresh ground. That is assuming egg layers. Meat chickens we do around 20.
Looks great. We are getting ready to build something similar but I'm concerned a bit about weight. How is it working out for you and how hard is it to move?
@@1870s Thanks! We found a plan at Green Willow Homestead that we purchased. I think she has two sets of wheels and I hope it helps us move it but I am still a little concerned about it due to the size and weight. Guess we'll see.
I'd love something like this, but for a meat rabbit colony instead of chickens (dang city rules). I'm not sure how they'd do with the ramp though. I might try it
Love your “off the seat of your pants” design 🐓 I would add more predator safety things. Latch because raccoons know how to lift that one. & Secure your wires down with some wood. Because raccoons know how to rip through that chicken wire especially with just the staples. Some use the cattle panel on top of it. Wood around the edges secured with screw. ( but that adds weight) Maybe just for the nighttime you could secure the underneath of the coop house with cattle panel or wood on edges. Incase they get in the chicken wire. You probably already know this. I really enjoyed your video. 😄
CHECKOUT EGG Cartn.com and their lift wheel assembly....this is what I use on my chicken tractor. They say 400 lbs. is limit, not sure how heavy yours is?
This is such a great video. I’m 23 right now but one day I’ll have my own house with space big enough for garden and chickens and have saved this video so I can look back.

Looks like you have a good tractor. Thanks for sharing this with us! Gives me a good idea for one I want.
thank you for sharing that.... love the design 👍

You did a great job on this chicken coop build. A luxury condo for sure. Y'all have a Blessed day.
Thank you, you too
I love that Todd you sure are a handy guy
Happy Birthday 🎂! Very Nice Birthday Present. This will work great to move by around the yard. Stay Safe and Peace Be With You All ☮️
Thank you, can't wait to get them moving
Happy birthday and... omgosh I love this so much. My new babies arrived today, everybody safe so far. Chickens just bring such joy ♡♡♡♡
Awesome, enjoy!
I love the mobile coop! 😀 Happy Birthday Rachel!🍻
Thank you 😊
I love this coop idea! Do you by chance have plans for it? I'd love to build one for my yard too!

Yes we are trying to figure out a solution like that
AWESOME. I'm so jealous, 🐣🐤🐥🐓🐔

happy birthday Rachel 🎂🎂🎂🎂🐣🐔🐔🐔

Great Job!
I know this is an older video ...but I thought about a little kids training wheels off a small biycle. To loosen and flip over to move ..

When it gets cold, we pack lots of hay and straw in there. See here: th-cam.com/video/ieUKGybjbp0/w-d-xo.html
how did this work out for you over the winter? Did you keep them in the chicken tractor or move them back into the bigger coop for the winter? Thank you for sharing.
we always move them back to the main coop for the winter, much warmer.
Maybe some sort of lever on each side that raises and lowers the wheels, with bigger wheels and a long enough lever Rachel should have no problem raising each side by herself. Don't forget a locking mechanism to hold the wheels down during moves. If I could post a picture, I would of what I am describing.

Glad you approve 🙂. I'm sure you'll see it more in videos to come, to know if it stands up to the real world test.
Looks great! Could you have used 2x3s instead to save some weight?
Yes, especially for the top sections
Todd, great job. Would it be too much to ask if you could list the pieces of lumbar and sizes you used? I'm going to attempt this myself.
Am i seeing correctly that this is mostly built with non-pressure treated pine?
Nice work

Great idea I’m using this concept! Lost 4 chickens...
This is brilliant, thank you. One thing I am missing though, how do you protect from predators coming into the run from the bottom? Normally people bury hardware cloth two feet deep around the run or make the entire floor from it. Yours seems to be open.
At night, they go up into the coop portion. And we close that part up. Most digging style predators around here, are nocturnal.

How much was the project in total? Or an estimate at least. Great Job btw!
How many chickens is this good for?
Do you have plans for this build please?
Awesome design I’m gonna follow your 2 videos an try an build it myself!
Do you remember what pitch the roof is?
Bottom and sides of the triangle are all equal length. Equallateral triangle.
Do you by any chance have plans?? I’ve never built one 😂😂
Happy chickens and chicken momma! I love the door system.
Thanks! It's working out great so far

nice design, what's the weight of the coop?
Looks great! I want one for our chickens! We lost 35 chickens a few weeks ago by a mink!! 😰
Nice build, i have never seen one like this. Are you worried about the wind catching it and tipping it over?
Oh not at all it's plenty heavy and wind for the most part will go right through it

Good chicken tractor.
Great build, any prey yet? Or any recommendations on extra features to keep
them out?
Do you have a materials list?
no we do not
Love it! You guys did a great job! Maybe need to think about something like that for my baby chicks. You have inspired me! 😁👍👏
Go for it! We've moved our baby chicks out there already. Video on it, should be out tomorrow we hope.
I'm worried about snakes, how do you keep them out?
I dunno if you can really, they can fit through really small spaces

Very nice!
Looks great. I'm thinking of doing an A frame for our upcoming chicken coop. What angles did you use for the triangles in the frame?
Sow the land channel has wheels he can lift up with his foot.
How many chickens can you fit in the chicken coop?
About 10 would be a good number. You could go up to 15 but they're going to generate a lot more manure and you may have to move it more often
Wow! I’m copying this door!!!
it turned out pretty cool
I'd love something like this, but for a meat rabbit colony instead of chickens (dang city rules). I'm not sure how they'd do with the ramp though. I might try it
Very nice! Come build my neighbor one! 😀
Are you going to paint the chicken coop? 🐓
No it like the weathered wood look. Goes with the antiqued look of my barns. It will weather up over one season and look great.
How many chickens fit in this?
Maybe 10. The more chickens, the more you gotta move it.
Dimension measurements?
Your grass looks great like a lawn, is that watered and mowed regularly or does grass in your area grow naturally from the rain / local climate?
