Out of shape? Dude that was a long ascent! Well done bro.

Heck if that small branch broke on me while I was ascending I'd come right back down and go home and take a shower. Super long extensions. Very scary, good video .

Yes its happened to me , a lot here because we have a lot of hardwoods with a lot of vines and growth that makes it almost impossible to rest your line across a clean crotch. I've had them drop on me too, I had one break on a branch, slide down into the lower larger crotch like that and in the moment it happened it totally disoriented me for a second, lost my balance and pendulum'd around a bit before regaining my orientation. That was a righteous climb up to the canopy you did there, fast too. Great video.

That happens to me often. I try to re-toss, but sometimes I can’t and I end up climbing on a little limb too. Just gotta weigh the pros and cons. The worst part is, when you do climb on the little limb, you have to go right to the top and fix it, however you need to, depending on the anchor you use. Glad you made it out ok, live to climb another day 👍👍

Yes, that happened to me yesterday on a sycamore. Thick canopy no visual once at the top it makes your heart sink. Great video thank you for taking the time to share!

That stuff scares me half to death. Solid climb though, and kudos to that branch for hanging in there.

yes it happens to every climber. I know that this happens and overtime I grew to learn that I can just drop a crotch if I notice it. Throwball manipulation is key. Also if you know these situations are common and sparks fear, why not but a monocular to be absolutely sure its where you need it?

Scary yes, glad you're alright! Just a suggestion and it may not be ideal in all occasions, but you can invest in binoculars to help see where your line is resting.

    Brother, you’ll fall 4 feet on that…
It is the distance from the twig plus the slack, so you can double it.
Another climber with a channel called, “an educated climber,” told a cautionary story and did a demonstration about how this works. He fell when the accidental limb he was on snapped and he has a scar on his hand now. He said it actually hurt pretty bad just falling that little bit.
I recommend bouncing pretty hard on your line if you can’t see if your line is perfectly in the crotch, and be careful doing that so you don’t smack your tailbone on the ground if it does break.
Glad you are ok, amigo. Thanks for sharing.
Looks awesome out there, I’m in Illinois and we don’t have awesome Eucalyptus trees like that here but we have mighty oak trees and those are fun to climb.

any sudden drop during accent is definitely a scary situation...if I can not see into the highest points of the canopy I will often settle for a lower shot and then advance my line from there.
    stay safe stay healthy🤙

I set a second line lower in the crown for 1st ascent. Usually allows me to see the high tip for second ascent. Many times I will set three or more lines for safer or more options.

It can help to do a bounce test when low after you clip in, or before you clip in to add some dynamic load to test your tie in. I do like your choice of prism though. Did you recover the throw balls?

I can’t remember the exact number from the class I went through but I believe right around 3 foot drop is enough to cause internal bleeding or organ damage. So yah you won’t fall to your death you’ll just rupture yourself internally. Plus for every foot you drop you double in weight. So if you weigh 200 lbs and drop three feet it’s equivalent to 600lbs of force

    • @sebvaughan6149

Nearly had a failure at 20 feet with a zigzag your scaring me 😏, the zigzag managed to go underneath the carabiner and started sliping not sure whether it was becasue it was d shaped or what.

    • @dr.h9309

@@sebvaughan6149 I don’t right the rules just what I learned through a ISA class. Lol. People always assume just because they’re tied in that their only worry is the plummet to death but never think of the shockload effect on internal body parts. I fell 20 feet from double tie ins do to a weak tree. Limbs I had my lanyard around snapped. Instead of panicking I thought well my life line is only a few feet below. When my weight finally caught the branch my life line was in and shock loaded it, that branch broke as well.

Yeah I will Doble rope from now on and really two attachment points and you still fell, but surely that's why you fixed a line around the base of the Tree becasue it's structurally strongest right

Brush life nice video mi amigo oscar hope all is well with you guys salodus say hi to your dad for me it can be really scary if you can't see of what you are doing once you feel comfortable with everything what you are doing it goes smoothly after that IAM not a climber but if i was one I would look at the work that needs to be done if it looks really dangerous I won't do the job the key thing is All about safety

I try to always go through multiple crotches & head up to check my anchor first thing. So I can get that thought of dropping a few feet out of my head

Branch collars are tough as sin,,,, you were okay. even twice your weight would have been fine,,, as long as rope doesn't drift out on branch

  • @pfv3462
    @pfv3462 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Why don't you use one spar pole tie-in as second security, or a second rope with a fall arrest device this is a tall tree?
There's nothing wrong with your condition it's a long climb, I think if you had loaded the climbing rope with 2 people first you could prevent this, the twig broke off without much effort! 👍

  • @nicholasceea4109

If it's 2' higher it would be about a 4' drop with doubled rope. What kind of climb line are you using with the RR Pro and does it work well? Yeah, that was a long climb!
