I've been an Epica fan for about 1 year now. I love this song, not at first but now I play it all the time, I don't understand the title, even though I get some of the lyrics after reading ppl's comments below.
So, if you've bought a house, and you think you've succeeded, but then you realise something is missing: love and friendship, you are greedy? This song is all about how bad life is, yet people only think life is bad because they listen to music like this and accept the lyrics as truth. Same with rap music that turns people into (wannabe) gangsters and pop music turning people into zombies who can only think of simple, though happy things.
The sucess isn't only to reach your goals. It is to become better as a person, improve your skills, keep your character and your dignity through the efforts... Only then wil you be able to feel content and fulfilled......until the next adventure knocks your door!
Man,Simone's pronounce in this song is so clear,I understood the lyrics without having to look them up.It's weird, usually I can hardly get what she's saying. Anyway, this song is AHHHH,LOVE.
the point is that we will never be satisfied no matter how much we have reached but we will always feel a missing part, that's why we are defeated by greed which will always exist in us as human beings we are.
This song is about people who have alot of material possessions but they just want more and more possessions to fulfill them and satisfy them, but it doesn't really bring them happiness and they 'injure others' in their pursuit of material gain and wealth. This could apply to much of the population in developed countries. Epica is critical of the emphasis our society places upon material things i.e. fancy cars, tv's etc etc
@CInemaBizarreComeBac It actually is a singer in the soprano range, but not quite as high in the register as a lyric soprano. Tarja Turunen, who sings higher in the register than Simone, is a full lyric soprano. The correct term for Simone is "coloratura mezzo-soprano," which is a mezzo-soprano who can reach the lyric soprano range, but not always comfortably, and who has a much warmer lower register. I just prefer to say that she's a really, really good singer.
I know them for few days now, and they are great. I cannot step asaide from the headphones. Lyrics - Great, music also, and the singer is Readhed. Redhead > all.
Sharon and Simone are both great. I love them both. Simone can sing in operatic style, Sharon's high voice is very sweet and nice on the ear, but Simone's is richer. Within Temptation and Epica are quite different really but people compare because they're dutch.
@FrostFire42 : Indeed... Anyhow they have lots of songs with strong lyrics... Facade of Reality... Martyr of the free world... Divine conspiracy... Consign To oblivion... but "Another me" still one of my favorites ;)
@Surykatkaaa life without ambitions has no meaning. even if ambitions could be the source of your misery. you've got to know that you're better than those who hide behind that short wall. you always can stand back on your feet. I know you will ;)
@Skret117 dude if you're new to epica... i suggest you start with the whole "Consign To Oblivion" album then "The Divine Conspiracy"... and about the redhead... it's true... I got photos of simone (the red head :p) every where in my life... can't stop looking at her, listening to her voice (listen to the "Les 3 vierges", "Tides of time", "safeguard to paradise"...) she the most PERFECT woman EVER!! ^^
This is a song about me o.O About how I have turned into a lifeless part of human by wanting more, achieving more, destroying myself simple by COMING TO BE BETTER, Don't do this, ambitions can eat.
Oh well...I always was a damn perfectionist and crying because X had A and I got B. It gradually got it's hold over my adult life. I feel miserable, I have no true happiness or passion in my life and I fullfill these needs by doing everything to be the best, even though I know it will never be. Basically I pushed all my ego and social problems into school so yeah. Skomentuj ten film is comment this film in polish. Got copy - pasted because I was correcting mistakes in the the text.
well XD simone has a great voice but when she sings live she messes up a little bit well i know who doesnt?maybe its the camera or thats too hard to sing live but shes got to practice morewith singing live!they r amazing btw no hate!
But by theory, if something always exists, it's not something that can defeat you. For example, are we always defeated by air because we can not live without breathing? Are we always defeated by gravity because we can not fly? It's empty, without meaning. Alright, alright, I'll leave it :P No more smartass comments from me.
if you earn more then you can spend, you're greedy? I think if you buy more then you need, you're greedy. that's a whole different thing. Okay, I'll go away now, you don't want to question the lyrics you are given ;)
you are so wrong, i mean the 'something that's missing' couldn't possibly reffer to love and friendship! it reffers mostly to material greed, and that no matter how much you have you cannot be pleased, because you always want more. plus, the lyrics are not negativist about life, they are very realistic, but i guess the only truth you can handle is the one about a world full of rainbows, flowers and poor happy people that are not materialistic.
I love Epica. They're amazing!
This song is brilliant
In Mayan language it means: "You are another me" or "I am another you",
OMFG...her song are like the best ever and i mean all of them.

when you think you've suceeded but something is missing you are greedy indeed cuz you still want more. The lyrics are so TRUE

Refrain sounds like The Last Crusade's one.
Epica's great.
Simone Simons is a Mezzo-soprano so she is half and half on both.

@Surykatkaaa You're not alone. Ever.
@o0loakalaka0o I thought they were the same thing: mezzo-soprano although as you say their voices are unique and "different."
@Jane009T Hey i'm mexican and i don't get it either. haha..

Am I the only one thinking "Jekyll and Hyde"?
what's the meaning of "Lack'ech"?
sorry, for an Asian, this word is just to hard to understand.

Persona 2, anyone?
well, You're roght. I like within temptation more than epica, anyway
I think Sharon, from within temptation, sings better. I mean, shes a better soprano
