I know im asking randomly but does any of you know a trick to log back into an instagram account?? I was stupid forgot the login password. I appreciate any assistance you can offer me!
@Jaxtyn Maddox thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site through google and im in the hacking process atm. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
You definitely dont need to be a design student for these lessons, fundamentals of drawing are equally valid for everyone. Besides a lot of ID people turn into concept artists
This is absolutely great advice to artists period. Not just for industrial designers or aspiring architects, but for all artists interested in drawing from life and imagination. It's, well, fundamental. Thank you, Robert.
This was the most concise explaination i've found for Ellipses. I could NEVER understand that "Long Axis is 90 degrees from the Short Axis" until seeing it in this video. Thank you so much lol.
Omg this is sooo helpful, as a self taught artist i struggle a lot this ellipses and couldnt understand it fully for some reason. This was so helpful thank you so much
This is probably the best rundown I've come across as I'm trying to wrap my head around cylinders and perspective as a whole. Thank you so much for this material!
i learned more about perspective from your cart example than i have in years. technical drawing for workshop production does not require that perspective be learned, so this is a wonderful departure for me. and i can even draw a cart, now... which is going to be super useful when the oil runs out and i have to build a real one.
Hi Dudley what kind of workshop production if I may ask, and are there any models of drawing or mapping things out that you use? Trying to find information on drawing up project plans is actually how I wound up on these (outstanding) video series here. These will help immensely but I'm still looking for guidance drawing up plans.
I AM NOT AN ARTIST, NOT EVEN GOOD IN DRAWING, WELL RATHER I NEVER STUDIED, BUT HOW MUCH ENJOY SEEING YOU DRAWING, YOU AND OTHERS, IS SO RELAXING AND MOTIVATING.
I am soon gonna join college and in the meantime, I'm preparing myself for the basics and your videos were the only useful videos I found on YT. Keep making content like this, you explain so well. Again, this was very helpful. Thanks
Thank you! Thank you! Best ellipses construction video ever! I was literally trying to draw a helicopter earlier. The blades were giving me a headache. Now I know what to do! 👏👏👏👏👏👏
I finished your course on artstation, you often mentioned elipses so I searched for your youtube chanel to find the explanation. I am amazed at how well you explained it, the example of the car was really helpfull. I think it would help if you showed pictures and paintings with the perspective lines like you did on the course. Thank you so much!
Ohhhhh my godddd I want to cry watched so many videos on ellipses all said the same thing but in such confusing ways that I was only getting further confused this is EXACTLY what I was looking for, thank you so much for keeping it SIMPLE and precise (lots of wrong info out there too unfortunately)
I love the thorough explanations and follow-throughs. You also do it repetitively at a pace where I can actually draw along so I can learn by dOING. Thank you thank you thank you! Wonderful vid made by a wonderful teacher.
These are good man. The only part “I don’t like” is when a new concept is sped up. It happens a couple of times (editing) but one example would be the rim details on the cart. Following everything pretty much to tee until it’s sped up. Thank you for posting!
These videos are amazing. Must be hard to tell newbies not to try and have fun yet and recreate anything on paper without knowledge of the basics and shapes on a 3D space. But it's clearly a necessary step to be competent and open your mind to see the paper as a 3D space with 3D shapes to draw correct proportions.
Glad you like them! Yeah the trick is I guess to squeeze in a fun drawing every now and ten where you just do stuff you like and don't pay attention. But after that you analyze what you did and what you can do better. You know take a spoon of sugar with your medicine ;)
I felt like I got the grasp of boxes and perspective decently. But once it came down to cylinders in perspective I was having a hard time😭this video helped me understand it better and I was actually enjoying drawing along too
I think for that axis, if you want to get an ellipse from 90 degree perspective (the right one) you just mark the equal distance up and down on minor axis and the equal distance to the left and right for major axis. If the distances are the same for both axis, you would get a perfect circle.
i'm so happy to see the dot and lines exercise there... I've been doing it every morning the past month and no idea if I improved but good to see someone... does it. Did it? They do it in Fengs school as well and at draw a box, so it can not be that wrong. The ellipses though... bane of my existence
It is the basic exercise for all industrial designers. People keep on asking me how my lines are so clean and how I draw such straight lines so I guess it does help. But there is no one point where you will feel like ok my lines are good now. It will just happen overtime where you will be more confident about your lines.
Bravo sir. By far the best explained and most useful video on exactly how you position the ellipse in the square. I’ve been looking for this video for a week.
@@robertlkiss please look at page 125 of this pdf link. It's from the original classic book on perspective. It uses the exact process you showed. www.storytellerartist.com/documents/Perspective_Made_Easy.pdf Curious what you think of that. Great vids!

Thank you so much for providing visual clarification on how to match the minor axis within a square. I've been stumped on why it always seems slightly off in other examples and the small right angle as a visual que is so helpful! I do have a question or perhaps even a request though. Do you have any tips on how to mirror a square from the X to the y plane? More specifically, I draw a square in vertical towards the vanishing point and then I want to map the same square to the ground plane so my proportions match properly when I draw constructions. You see, I've been trying to apply the construction methods to animals and creatures but I manage to turn camels into weasels because my grids are off, haha. I think the central axis of the cylinder is only perpendicular to the long axis only in one vanishing point perspective, not in two vanishing points perspective...
In one-point perspective the ellipse is always going to face you so it's natural that the axes are going to be perpendicular on each other. In two-point perspective you use the fact that the long axis is perpendicular to the short axis to be able to construct a correct ellipse.
there is one thing I don't understand... if the long access is perpendicular to the line going to the second vanishing point, that means that your ellispse will change if the second vanishing point changes ??? that doesn't make sense because the foreshortened initial square in which the circle fits is only affected by the first vanishing point !!!
I totally understand your confusion here I should have done a better job laying this one out. The problem here is that in nature moving one vanishing point doesn't really happen. If you take a Rubik's cube, for example, lift it to eye height and rotate it, both sides will change. The same thing would happen with the cube that was drawn here if it was in nature. Because we(our eyes) are the camera that si rotating around objects the vanishing points will always adjust. So, in this case, you are right the change of the axis will not influence the ellipse even though technically it should. But as I said this is really due to the fact that vanishing points are not something we can move in nature, they are constructs that help us in drawing. Another thing worth mentioning here is that 2 point perspective doesn't really exist in nature either. 2 point perspective is what we use in isometric depictions. In nature, we always have at least 3 point perspective. I am really sorry for the long text but this would be so much easier to explain while drawing and talking. I think I will make a new video talking about this soon. And to answer your other question, yes my ellipse didn't touch the foremost vertical edge because I wanted to draw a circle, and the side of the cube wasn't a perfect square so the two won't fit. This will happen if one is not precise enough when drawing freehand. I do hope I managed to clarify things a bit for you with this long-winded answer.
