    Great video with a rich content. Looks like you had a wonderful time. It is an impressive place! To me it looks strangely surreal and a bit like a theme park, and it is not high on my bucket list, if at all. Quite different from my own travel in September, which was walking about 120 km along the towpaths of the Union and the Forth & Clyde Canals from Edinburgh to the end of the canal at the ocean in Bowling, past Glasgow 😄 Lower temperatures and a lot less sunshine 😃 But loved it!

    • @cjexplores
      @cjexplores  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Torunn! Yes Dubai totally took us by surprise 😅 and you’re right, it is a bit of a theme park. Imagine, 50 years ago this was only a small desert town 🤯 your trip sounds much less hedonistic 🤣

    • @TravellingTorunn
      @TravellingTorunn ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cjexplores Haha, yes it was really peaceful and a lot of nature. Many people use these canals for commuting on foot or bicycle, or to walk their dog or just for a leisurely walk or running. It is marvellous that these canals have been restored. Many of them were destroyed and useless some decades ago 🥰

    I have Traveled almost all of Europe and I got so used to the experience of landing in a European city, walking around walkable streets, seeing locals go about their day, chilling in a park or even taking public transport to the edge of the city to escape the urban sprawl... and then I came to Dubai.
    That trip had this "Lost in translation" feel to it, I was there alone, moving through the empty streets under the skyscrapers, getting on the metro line and only ever seeing people from India, Pakistan, Africa, never any Arab people, then walking these long roofed corridors for 20 minutes to get from one place of interest to the other, then being surrounded by vapid influencers in the malls taking selfies. The best way to describe my experience there would be 'surreal', like I was walking in a dream, never able to connect with anything or anyone on an emotional level, just cruising through liminal spaces in an artificial environment in a place where nothing lives.
    I don't know how is it possible that people still get fooled by Dubai's image, it's nothing but city built by modern slaves and here you have western white liberal woman promoting it how ironic.

    • @cjexplores
      @cjexplores  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow! What an experience Rex. We found that it was a city built for driving as well. Not very footpath friendly, unless you're in one of the local suburbs and staying put.
      We are also massive fans of Europe and the accessibility of all of the ancient streets. The age of these two types of cultures certainly shows...
      I'm so on the fence about Dubai, a town that discovered it had oil underneath it sands, turned into a modern advanced metropolis in the matter of a few decades, not without some questionable human rights infractions along the way. I understand they want to move away from oil and into renewables and tourism, which I think is a good thing, but can you do that without making the most insane attractions in the world when all you have is sand and sea?
      When we look at history, the vast majority of modern civilisations have all made monumental errors in judgement when it comes to human rights. Think what Britain did to India, USA to Caribbeans and Africans, or the Dutch even. This by no means justifies any wrongdoing but it is a recurring theme.
      Thanks for bringing this up for us to discuss 🙏🏼

    I genuinely don't know how you guys aren't getting tens of thousands of views per video. Must be something wrong with the algorithm as your content is far, far better produced than channels with many more subs! Loved this video, despite Dubai being pretty much bottom of the list of places i'd ever want to visit (i'm happier in Cornwall or on a beach in Scotland to be fair) 😊
    Keep up the good work guys 👌🫶

Most people who live there are expats, the local Emirati’s make up about 15% of the population 🤯

    Great video. I'm heading back to Europe next year, flying from Australia, and we often have to connect with another flight at Dubai. I'm thinking of cutting my flight time in half and staying for a bit. How many days would be good to enjoy the sights? 2 or 3? I don't think i can spare more than 3...

    • @cjexplores
      @cjexplores  ปีที่แล้ว

      Awesome, that’s a great idea. I think if you keep it to one particular area you could certainly get a good feel for Dubai. Say you stayed downtown, you could see the Burj Khalifa, the Dubai Mall, the Dubai Fountain and much much more. If you stayed on the Palm Jumeirah, you could enjoy the beach clubs, resort life, maybe a skydive? 🤣 3 days would be enough for just one small part of Dubai though 😉

    • @cjexplores
      @cjexplores  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Best place is directly on their website: auraskypool.com/experiences/ choose your ideal time, package and inclusions and book it in! It can book up fast so look into it sooner rather than later. If all fails, you can always reserve a table in the restaurant like us and pray that there’s a cancellation 🙏🏼😊

    • @cjexplores
      @cjexplores  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@kingking4755 you should download the Careem app. It’s kind of like a super app where you can book taxis, food delivery, car hire, hotels, and restaurants! I think you can even book laundry service on there… 🤔 but that would be the place to start. Otherwise Google Maps allows you to book reservations now with affiliated restaurants. And lastly, you could try the restaurant website for any places you can’t find 😊
