The most versatile bit of kit is the scrim scarf. you can drape it over you and your camera, and it will break up your outline really well. it also allows sunlight to filter through, to throw shadows on you and your clothes, making for a more natural look. A rubber band will hold it in place on the end of your lens. You can just drape it around your neck, and quickly pull it over your head, when required. They are dirt cheap, and come in many different patterns to cover different environments. I usually carry two different patterns, to cover woods or grasslands.

I really like the sunrise shots as well as #’s 2 and 4 in the trees. When I got back into photography after years away, I did so with a Nikon D3000 APSC and the Nikon 18-200 lens. Not very sophisticated, but I shot a lot of images that still look good - even after moving to full frame and spending a small fortune on really good lenses.
The first question that you should ask yourself here is why things are seen? The answer to this is Shape, Shine, Shadow, Silhouette, Spacing & Movement. It you can change your shape, reduce your shine, hide in shadows without making unnatural shadows yourself and don't silhouette by standing above the skyline,this will reduce anything from seeing you. Very little in nature is spaced evenly, if in groups don't stand with even spacing between you, move slow and steady, fast movements attract attention.
Most definitely, all great things to keep in mind as you're learning how to blend into the environment.

Really useful Jeremy. The gloves in summer have the additional advantage of reducing the amount of exposed skin for the insects to get at! How are the ones you’ve got size wise? I’m between the M and L and am thinking maybe going for the L.
They most definitely do! Such a great tool year round. And they fit great for me size wise! I have larges and fit really snug

Haha most definitely! I always carry around a protein bard and nature valley bar in my backpack water bottle pocket regardless as an emergency snack, however, when I know I'm going out somewhere longer than I'll pack a lot more in my Camo bag. Glad you liked the video!
Great video! Jeremy, but what do you wear on hot summer days?
Thank you! I usually wear the leafy suit cause it’s cooler, or if it’s really too hot I wear the Camo scarf. Generally I keep the heat down though by doing early sunrises and staying in shade. So even though it gets up to 115 F here in the mornings it’s more manageable in the 80’s or so
One thing that is hardly ever mentioned in these videos is UV light. A lot of cheap camo uses optical brighteners or cheap fabric that already has optical brighteners. So animals that see UV light, like most birds, will see that and you’ll stand out like a sore thumb to them. Also, you have to wash your camo in special detergent that doesn’t use optical brighteners.
Wow, super interesting I had no idea that was a thing, what fabric materials would be examples of optical brighteners?
@@JeremyNeipp there isn’t a good way to tell. You have to get a blacklight flashlight and shine it at the material to know. You can get a cheap one on eBay.
I got some white camo netting to use while doing winter bird photography and I realized after I got the black light that I was glowing like a sore thumb to the birds!

I was told the same thing about UV by former Army Ranger / hunter. He told me to *lightly* spray paint over all outside coverings with flat brown or green paint to dull the surface. Haven't tried it yet.

Very interesting Jeremy how the wildlife watching /photography equipment suppliers have expanded there range over the last few years, 50 years ago your only option was the army surplus stores , ( as non military you was looked on as rather an "oddball" by the general populace - still makes me laugh remembering some people's reaction to it ! ) 😅

Would you recommend a leafy suit or Lenscoat? I live in the AZ desert and it gets pretty hot!
It does get hot in Arizona! They really serve different purposes, but the leafy suit will be a much better bang for your buck and do a much better job of concealing you if you can only choose one of the two. If you use it in the early mornings you won't have a problem, afternoons and late days will be pretty hot in your summers though, but still manageable if you find shade.

2:56 definitely agree with you about making yourself smaller- though I have noticed that if you get noticed standing up and then move into a crouch, the animal often gets MORE antsy. I always figured it was because it was the equivalent of a predator going into a stalk

If you had to do another camera budget video within the range of $10,000. I wonder what your other options would be in that price range. That’s a serious investment.
