Time loop artefacts have a name; its related to the concept of the "Djinn Particle" and they are "Djinn-objects". The blood-thorn, terminators hand, Data's Head etc. The term was coined by Igor Novikov and J. Richard Gott still thumps the Djinn Particle drum.
Out there theory but Nessus is Houston Texas. Wolfe had spent some time there irl. As a former space port it works too. Poles have flipped to make up for north south orientation discrepancy along with many other geologic changes which have occurred over the millennia.Gyoll is an amalgam of an expanded buffalo bayou slash rerouted Mississippi. So to conclude- even with an overwhelming lack of evidence, and much to the contrary, I can state with one million percent certainty that Nessus IS Houston.
I read all the books and was pretty sure I had a pretty good bead on things. I knew nothing! Nothing! Edit: Also, I'd just like to say I really appreciate that you end the video preaching in a church. Well done, sir.
Any thoughts on the child Severian whose family is killed and he becomes a very temporary companion? Is this another Severian? A potential indicator that there might be multiples out there, or a reflection of the ‘First Severian’ idea? Is the name more common given the time travel loop. Was he just a random kid unlucky enough to be pulled into the orbit of our Severian? It made me think of Roland and Jake from ‘The Gunslinger’ I was expecting something to come of it but like so much of BOTNS, if it did, I think I missed it.
I thoroughly enjoyed the books and I think Wolf’s prose is outstanding. He also has some incredible ideas. However, I don’t think story has any meaning. It seems like just semi random shit, maybe stream of consciousness that he just force fit together, or maybe it’s purposefully like that (postmodern influence designed to create a story that has an infinite number of interpretations) but it’s definitely shit of the*highest order*.
Every time I click here, there’s a new BotNS video. It’s just fantastic.

Ooh, Christmas came early. Thanks Santa!
My pleasure

I think it's about how humans form culture out of facts and lies and time distorts everything?
