i keep seeing this on bundy related message boards since this recent revival of interest in him. it's a very social justice-y "let's put our hands over our ears and ignore reality" type of thing, victim culture (which should not be allowed into a case like this where there were actual victims) and trying to erase history. people already remember the victims, because it's a MURDER case. if anyone wants to know who each victim was, they can familiarize themselves with the case through the information available. also, that's a lot of victims you're expecting people to remember individually. finally, know what the common thread between them is? ted bundy. so much for not remembering ted.

Many people die, only few die to mass murderers and even fewer are mass murderers. It's understandable they are remembered in such a hierarchical sense. After all most people came here for Ted Bundy, the outlier whose display of psychosis and manipulation were what made him the man he is. As such of course there will be curiosity surrounding Bundy, whereas his victims had no real impact.

I was still too young to realize such an attractive man would be such a psycho. I learned my lesson that day as a 10 year old that if you judge a book by its cover you put your life in danger. Later I realized I wasn't the only one who found him attractive. Definitely not ugly, that's for sure. Until you learn his personality of being a murderer.

Just because guys in a group usually (not always) change from being pleasant people you can intelligently converse with into total assholes. Cliquey, macho and obnoxious. Anyone who's survived highschool knows this. I just don't fit in in those groups. Never have. One on one, I'm fine. I'm always sensitive to other people thinking I'm a weirdo - particularly somewhere like a beach. I try not to take it personally; I completely understand why total strangers will shoo their children away from an adult male alone but still, it sometimes hurts. Incidentally, I know females who walk the streets alone at night face a similar stigma & bias.

I was born and raised here in Seattle Washington, in the U District by the University of Washington. These videos of Bundy really bring back fear that gripped that neighborhood in the 70s. I used to walk my mother and my sister home from the bus stop at night because that neighborhood was so terrorized. Also, one of the detectives mentioned the bar Dante's Inferno which was basically two blocks away from my house. We used to go there all the time as it was really a jumping place. It seems fitting that Bundy frequented a place called Dante's Inferno. I hope that all the people that were collateral damage of this animal have found peace in their lives, but I kind of doubt it. Really upsetting these women are mostly unknown, just another face, hardly a back story, not truly seen as a living, breathing person, forever lost to the grip of one sick man’s decisions based on subordination, and yet we’ve immortalized Ted Buddy’s name and fixated with why he was the way he was. This is important to know for mental health reasons, but it’s also important to realize individuals such as these also want to be known and admired, and we should learn of the ramifications of indirectly rewarding this kind of behavior: there is only more pain and loss.

    • @mpreiss7780

People are fascinated with how can a man do these horrible things to another human, feel no remorse and yet look rather normal? It's not a shot at the victims, as most people feel so sorry for them and their families it's just we fear and are fascinated by things we do not understand.

We remember Ted the way we remember what a rattlesnake looks like in the grass. To understand and not be taken in by his type. We don't honor him. We keep him firmly up there as a toxic venomous creature that girls and women need to be warned about. Not upsetting at all.
Do you see signs in parks warning of garter snakes? No. But you do see rattlesnake signs don't you? We are not giving more importance to that venomous snake but identifying it as a warning to others not to get bitten and to stay away from them.

My interest in true crime is because of an experience I believe was with Bundy. A man offered to "choke" me but could not act out in that particular location. My story is nothing compared to women who truly escaped from him. Since cold cases are being reopened, I will say my experience was in central Oregon, 1971. The incident affected me enough at the time that I read the papers to see if any women had been killed. I remember a woman being murdered in Klamath Falls, Oregon about a week later. Bundy was unknown in 1971. Whoever interacted with me convinced me he was a killer and certainly wanted to kill me. I have watched and read a lot of true crime but cannot stand to see much of Bundy, even in still photos. To me, he is the man who wanted to choke me.

I would have been very suspicious & wouldn’t have helped him at all, thereby saving my life ( a few girls he approached turned him down).

@Madam Butterfly yes I agree. I said much the same elsewhere. I would have asked myself if the boat is in his parent's house why couldn't they have loaded it? Why weren't they with him? And why was he driving if he had a broken arm? And even with friends who would go boating with a broken arm? And if by chance a cripple needs help why insist that a particular woman help you? Wouldn't you be more inclined to say can one of you help me? Also with regard to women he encountered at universities I recall my own time there - In all my eight years there and 6 years at Secondary school I can recall only twice seeing cripples and were on crutches. One with a broken leg but neither asked for help with books etc. They had backpacks. Obviously these poor girls did not wonder why Ted Bundy did not do the same instead of dropping books or asking help in carrying them. Lastly why would a genuine cripple who was vulnerable want to take someone to his house?
I think Denise Naslund was stoned, an eyewitness recently said she nearly fell on the grass and she quarrelled with her boyfriend. Janice Ott was depressed and lonely for her husband. What a pity there was no boyfriend near the toilets who could have intercepted Ted. As for Ott, she probably thought he was hitting on her. But if a guy really likes you why go with a stranger to his house ? Why not get to know each other at the park a few times? I wish Janice had thought carefully as she was about to enter the car and changed her mind.

@@naturegirl9680 No one is saying that they were to blame. The fact was that Ted came across naive girls or more probably preoccupied or distracted by some problems of their own. Denise Naslund had quarrelled with her boyfriend, she also didn't want to be at the park that day as she had a computer programming exam to study for the next day and was worried about that. She was also high on valium and smoked a joint. Janice was lonely for her husband , and some say she had a row with him. I agree with Ann Rule when she said in her book ' had the killer somehow divined that he came across these girls when they weren't thinking clearly like they usually did and were vulnerable? It would almost seem so'. But I wish Ott had had second thoughts before she got into that car. Maybe she did but was too polite to say so? We know Carol Da Ronch was uneasy. I also wish Denise's boyfriend had woken up and said where the hell are you going?

@@naturegirl9680 Some of the other girls he approached were suspicious, a few were as young as 15 or 16. One told him she wasn't very strong. A housewife sitting near him and Ott felt his arm wasn't broken as he kept waving it round

Eimeara Stapleton - I agree as we both pointed out, but there’s many factors in place, such as IF Ted hadn’t shown up, the girls being high on drugs or just plain naive & too trusting - I feel bad for the innocent girls that were murdered & of course their families, I feel sorry for Ted’s mother, can anyone imagine the grief & horror she went through, even tho she denied it until her son was given the lethal injection!!!

    • @Oksana7305
      @Oksana7305 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@madambutterfly7513 Its absolutely disgusting the way Ted took advantage of these girls, some were sick like Caryn Campbell, others upset over relationships like Julie Cunningham who was in tears when she encountered Ted and others worried about their fathers and drugs etc. How cruel is that? And as you say naive etc. Also another factor given that Ted was older than the girls he approached maybe they thought it was rude to say no to his requests to carry his books etc? Just a thought. And yes of course we have to feel for them and their families . Lives cut short and lives ruined for those left to carry on . Those girls never got the chance to finish college, marry or do whatever else they wanted. Regarding broken arm ruse, I remember reading that the FBI always said if something seems odd to you, no matter how trivial it is don't ignore it. You could save your life. I wonder why Janice Ott suddenly went off with Ted? Eyewitnesses felt she was offhand and not interested and then she suddenly got up.

Hell King County police was told twice by Ted's girlfriend she had suspicion he was the "Ted" involved in the missing women, same color make year of VW car same build, Hight, hair of the killer, she found plaster of paris in his place for making (fake)casts, ect... And yet they didn't even thoroughly check him out!!! so why wouldn't you use your real name? Police really botched this one and so many lives could have been spared. And to me the so called expert detective Kepple has the nerve to be writing books and making money off this botched effort is not cool

I did my research on psychopaths and they don't feel any guilt or shame, they also don't feel any fear as far as i know when they get caught, i guess it was just a funny game for him, he didn't really care when he get caught and escaped also 2 times, he wasn't careful enough after the escape too. Those people are fucking scary because they can't act different. Their brain is organised that way
