The Baseball Bunch - Ozzie Smith

This is an episode from the third season of The Baseball Bunch in 1983 featuring St. Louis Cardinals shortstop and future Hall of Famer Ozzie Smith. This episode focuses on proper techniques for fielding ground balls at shortstop, as well as introducing "Wall Ball," a game that children can play with a tennis ball and brick wall to improve their fielding. There is also a sweet highlight segment of Ozzie Smith making some amazing plays in his early years. The Dugout Wizard segment, keeping with the show's "Wizard of Oz" theme, shows numerous close plays at home plate (there's no place like home)....Starring Johnny Bench and The Famous Chicken. Also includes Tommy Lasorda as "The Dugout Wizard." This was recorded off ESPN in the late 1980s.......

Dang, I used to watch this show religiously as a kid. I was a huge Cardinals fan, and Ozzie Smith and Willie McGhee were my favorite players.

I would love to see MLB Network air a documentary on this show and bring back the cast members to tell us their stories. It's sad that this show isn't available anywhere but TH-cam.

I remember watching this show as a kid. Locally it was on Saturday right after Morning cartoons. After lunch I’d go out and play with the neighborhood kids at out nearest diamond and often use some of the skills I picked up. Thanks for the memories.

I know its not politically correct, but I always thought it would have been cool if The Chicken had enough of the ridicule one episode, and just kicked the you know what out of both the kids and Johnny Bench.
