The term "WAY ahead of his time..." is probably the understatement of the century, when describing the amazing minds of Rod Serling and Ray Bradberry

am I the only one just enjpys this episode, it's very good and sad :') no creepy moments, no villain, no cruel twist, just sweet robot woman who cares about 3 children, even the one who's being mean becuase she misses her mother. it's beautiful T_T

I totally agree. This and the one with the old couple who want young bodies.

Yea. Shows that the twilight zone is not just the embodiment of cruel twists or nightmare fuel

This is such an underrated episode to me. Bradbury didn't clarify every last detail about circumstances in the plot for those who like things all in place that way. And of course looking back at the beginnings of television we have to remember limitations of programs using the right amount of imagination to enjoy them fully. What he did was to replace a missing mother with the intervention of something so different as a robot with its programmed brain inviting us to examine shared existence of our world with other beings and the meaning of a soul. That's plain enough with the title "i sing the body electric" from whitman who talks directly about the soul. I remember the grandmother leaving in the end respecting her duty but seemingly heartbroken - hardly a dead thing. I think Bradbury did that to suggest love is a very ubiquitous and not just between humans in bodies and perhaps projecting robots will one day be capable of love like us. That is pretty deep stuff for a kid but the story works for a child as many of us that had surrogates in our lives can probably attest. But the adult theme works too and I still enjoy thinking about the deeper meanings in that episode. Twilight Zoners who liked it all scary did not rate this well but to me its one of the best.

I very much agree that this is 1 of the finest TZ episodes and is 1 of the greatest episodes ever to be broadcast on television, if I may be so bold. And that MUSIC … (as a side note to the greatness of the episode) Imagine how ahead of its time that one synthesizer patch was back then!

I love this episode. I always get teary eyed when Anne finally breaks down and reveals the source of her anger. Veronica Cartwright really did a fantastic job with the character.

Ray Bradbury in the 50's has identified and talked about artificial intelligence, the robots learning from the people using them. Classic machine learning. Maye that is where the movement came from.

Alternate ending: she lovingly sends the kids off to college, and when she finally turns to leave, reverts to a cold robotic stare. That’s how I thought Serling would have it, but no.

I was so inspired by this when I was a kid. We could never imagine the world we live in now. And the great responsibly to preserve it. Its seems that AI is simply an extension of our own consciousness.
