- This song describes the feelings of the residents of the Thar desert during a rainy day. It clearly indicates how rare the sight of rain is in these regions which is why nobody takes these events for granted and sees the rain as a blessing from the gods.

मेरी शादी में दप्पू खान मेरासी जब आए थे तब थोड़ा बीमार थे उन्होंने दो ही गाने गाए लेकिन सबका दिल जीत लिया इनके द्वारा गाए हुए गानों का में नतमस्तक हूं और इनकी आवाज इतनी मधुर थी कि आप दिल से इनको सलाम
सिर्फ ऐसे खुद्दार लोग ही आज भी अपनी संस्कृति और परम्पराओ को जीवंत बनाये हुए हैं, इनका अपनी माटी से ये जुड़ाव और जज्बा सराहनीय और वन्दनीय है।

I saw so many folk artists in Jaisalmer during my visit and one thing I want to request everyone please donate as per your wish to these artists so that the legacy should not stop and their coming generations learn these skills from the masters and keep it alive. a lot of our finest artists are living in such poverty where they cant afford 2 meals a day which is shame on us as a nation because it's our duty to make the art stay alive. Thank you and what a wonderful performance by Dapu Khan and his team.

Very true. His voice training (don't know how hard he trained in his young days) is unbelievable. He is 'sthir' on whatever note he chooses. How he remains there unwavering - without any tremor in his voice is something difficult to even understand. Just because he does not have celebrity status, he remains unsung and unrecognised. This is our beloved country my dear. We only recognise glitter. We ignore GOLD.

दप्पू खान जी मेरे ननिहाल से थे इनके द्वारा गाए हुए प्रसिद्ध गाने आज भी मेरे कानों में गूंजते हैं मूमल डोरो जेडर अरणी प्रसिद्ध गीत है इनके अंतिम पलों में इनसे हॉस्पिटल में जोधपुर मिला था वह आज भी शक्ल मेरे नजरों के सामने दिखती है इनकी हर चीज हमारे लिए स्मरणीय और लाइफ में आगे बढ़ने के लिए प्रोत्साहित करती है
मारवाह की मिठास की तो बात ही कुछ ओर है, क्या आवाज, साज है वाह टेस्ट हीं नयारा है

to put lake and Dapu together

I like to think if Bhagavan Krishna
was to narrate his glories again
To one of his Yadu race in Jesalmer
He might well say
Of those who sing, and play the kamaicha
I am Dapu Khan Managniyar
And you may call it my fancy if you will
But my mind is comforted in the thought
For that is the way of our faith
And such is the way of our beliefs
That in the nice place where Dapu has gone
He had darsan of his Kisanji at last
And he, the Omkara, Sound Incarnate,
Peacock feathered Lord of the flute and Dapu
Played for each other,
Kisanji to bless his servant
And Dapu to worship Him
Who hid in his voice and kamaicha all along.

I thought I’d write a requiem,
and it would be done
The hurt would go away
But it hasn’t by far
The pain lingers still
Though he’s gone, crossed the bar.
They’ll tell stories now
Some true, some not so
And they’ll grow as the legend grows,
Some true, some not so
Who’ll ever know?
Already there are several songs on you tube
Claiming to be his last
And I see in those the cause of my hurt.
Those that used him, earned name and fame
Wrote articles, made films and videos
Records of his music, made personal gains
But left him still as he ever was
Seated on a ragged jute sack by Gadisar Lake
Or a corner of Sonar Killa, the golden fort
Singing of love and romance and heroism
Sun and wind and rain and men and women
Of his land of birth, unlike any other on earth.
I dream of a day when
In his village among the quiet sands
Or some public square of Jesan
There will be a bust or sculpture of Dapu
To honor him
And the memory of a time
and a way of life long gone,
An atonement for all that was owed and denied,
To one who gave his all for a song.

And so once more, one last time.
Reluctant to let him go
For it means to let go so much
I do not wish to let go
But time moves on, waits for none
So it must be so, for other songs have begun
Farewell bard of the sands
Minstrel of a mystic music land
Long will I remember you
And the magic of your perfected hand
For though your voice was sweet beyond words
The more so because it always had so much heart
What your hands did was equally a world apart.
The magic was in the words sung
As in the word left unsung or sung a broken half
And there your kamaicha stepped in
To intone the left out part.
And here was the magic
Sometimes, both your voice
and the kamaicha’s sprung a surprise
By both missing a word, a beat
And magic happened.
The listener’s enchanted mind stepped in
And made the song complete
With the unspoken word and the silent note
As my mind does now
As I see you
Your old jute mat and ancient coat
Your proud turban and proud eyes
That had seen many hellos and many goodbyes
Under many skies
You and your face and your hands and kamaicha
Going round and round in my head
Singing of Jesan
Where I know none of these will ever be dead
