  • We left Nelson after Music in the Mountains and headed to Hanmer Springs via the Lewis Pass. It was really stormy and we got some great photos - see the end of the video for these 🙂

    Great footage of the truck in the poor weather. Many thanks for sharing 👍

      It was a beautiful drive…. I’ve been through there before but not with a giant truck in a storm haha. Marcel is a seasoned truck driver though so the weather didn’t bother him.

    Wow. Impressive, what a tiny wee bridge for you big fellas. I won't be nervous now.

      Hi Tina, the bridge is very high…. Didn’t have a weight limit but only one heavy vehicle allowed at a time…. 😬

    A few good bands of stormy weather through there. Love how you can see the line of it through the mountains. Hate those wet arrivals and set up though.
    Always good to have big rig space in the middle of the parks.

      @gallichantrucklifenz  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely, we weren’t sure we could park there but have found out now that the big rigs are allowed to park in the middle of the parks if there’s room. The rain was so cool to watch coming 🙂

      @@gallichantrucklifenz Will do, would love to meet. Our schedule is limited through work/school so not as freeeeee as you guys. It's so great that you get to see these destinations outside of school holidays etc, so it's not crazy busy. We plan to head to Dunedin next weekend, 1/2 March as we have a trademe pickup lol, and an excuse to go for a ride. But as you know, life happens so may not work out,

    Those photos at the end really bring out the dramatic skies... Lewis pass looks pretty stunning.... Hanmer must have been fulled up with a bunch of people from Music in the Mountains aye... Dunedin NZMCA, people had to park in the middle here as well, not enough space... Pretty small NZmca Park here, I reckon only 18 caravans could fit, 20 with people parking in the dump station.

      It is beautiful through the Lewis. I’ve never done it in the rain like that before.
      That’s a crazy small park down there. I’m not much of a fan of Dunedin, neither is Marcel, so we probably won’t stay there - just pass through haha (I was born there and glad my fam moved to Kaikoura when I was just a baby).

    I recognize the Hanmer park, we have stayed there, it's great to have the car to be able to just pop to town etc, it's a real bonus, it's just a pain that it makes you so long. We don't have a tow vehicle but means you have to take the motorhome everywhere, to the supermarket etc. That Hanmer park is quite a way from town, so too far to bike. From memory there's another freedom park across the road, by the river, but whenever we have been there, it has always been full. 10 vehicle max I think.

    • @gallichantrucklifenz
      @gallichantrucklifenz  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s definitely good to have the car. We have sold the trailer (being picked up next week by the guy who bought it) and will eventually flat tow the car so we will be able to easily take the car on and off. Will be much easier when we need to get in and out of places with the truck if the car is off.
      We looked at the freedom camping spot and there were some people in there but there had been so much rain it wasn’t advised to park there in wet conditions because of the river. We’d definitely park there though as it had toilets 🙂

    • @fionalewis3121
      @fionalewis3121 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@gallichantrucklifenz Oh great plan, yes I imagine definitely easier to park with tow car off. Yes we liked the idea of the toilets and the beauty of the river, and.....it's free lol. Enjoy your stop over.

    When it rains on the Westcoast and through the passes it can get really heavy aye. Our friends whole towbar fell off their SUV through he Lewis and fortunately it all came to a stop in the middle of the road

      Marcel pulled it off as it was getting a but dangerous. He tried fixing it but it was pretty wreaked. We are missing 2 on the same side of the truck now. When finances allow we will get new ones 🙂
