For me the best version of Jason is the "dark trinity" one(the one with artemis and bizarro), for me it shows jason's charcter very well, in surface, in his mask, he is a ruthless brutalist killer, that targets criminals and "puts an end to evil for good" by killing every criminal he encounters, but in the inside, hes scared, he has a warm heart and he fears getting hurt again, he thought the one person that he loved the most just saw him as a placeholder, replacable, worthless, but the thing with jason, is that hes kind, he saved his mother even after she betrayed him, he respects Tim for him being bold and not backing down even he should hate Tim since hes the ome who replaced him, and he admires Nightwing like the big brother he wanted to have, and when he met bizzarro, he knew that he couldnt let him be like what he is, bitter with life, from his past, being incapable of moving on and with the world setting him back making him unable to letting his traumas go, the compassion he shows to bizzarro, artemis and arsenal shows that Jason is a kind guy and he whants to do good, he just thinks difirently and has other ways to do that, i would love if Jason made like a Teen Titans with artemis, bizzarro and arsenal where they take care of the lesser crime and leave to batman to take on the big names like Joker, Two-face, Penguin(if he wasnt fuckin shot in the head), etc, and Jason gets everything he wanted all along, to live with a family, that cares deeply for him and would stop at nothing to be there for him and show their affection, and oh goodness if he had that white strand of hair it would be the best comic series for me, ten fold- no, ten thousand fold.
What I find so interesting about The story where Robin May or may not have pushed an ambassador’s son off of a balcony is that not only is it left up to interpretation on whether or not Robin actually killed him but it’s also left up to the reader to decide if it was the right thing to do. I’m not going to say what is the right or wrong thing to do in that situation as you can make a valid argument either way. But what I find interesting is how the story started with the ambassadors kid making up a lie where his victim just slipped, and now Robin is claiming the man he “scared” just slipped off of the balcony

Regarding Tim Drake coming close to the abyss, believe it or not, he was in such a dark place during the 2000s that he considered taking his own life. He lost a lot of people. Aside from his father, he also lost two of his best friends, Conner Kent and Bart Allan, along with many other Titans during the rampage of Superboy Prime. His ability as a leader was constantly being challenged, and if I recall correctly, he felt that he was an inept leader and blamed himself for the deaths of others. Also, he was under constant pressure and feared becoming like his future Batman self, who was really cruel and essentially betrayed every code that Bruce had. He even became so desperate that he tried to clone Conner just so he could have saved something. However, Cassie Sandsmark talked him out of it and said that it would never be Conner. Something similar also happened when he wanted to resurrect his father using the Lazarus Pits, and Dick was the one who talked him out of it.
@@PizzaTime1983 Robin issue #156. The issue opens with Tim feeling pretty low about himself and some recent events and this continues throughout the whole issue. In the same issue he confronts a depressed kid and talks him down from jumping by basically saying, "Yeah, me too," and validating his feelings and sympathising with him. It ends with Tim telling him to just talk to someone, anyone, because it does help. Then, he acts upon his own advice and calls Dick and asks if they can talk, with Dick responding positively and trying to talk to him and make him feel better, with the Suicide Hotline advertised right next to the panel.
Thanks for making your lore video on Red Hood actually hilarious. You made a good point about most of these videos and immediately made this info dump fresh and entertaining. Keep up the good work, Mullet-Man 😤
This video was a tremendous effort and I thank you dearly for it brother. JSON Todd freaking rocks and we love him despite how complicated he might be !
@zoeyfriend224 "That's how We make our Money Jason! If there's no Joker, the Writers have nothing! What? Are they going to make a story about a much lesser villain like Solomon Grundy? Or Scarecrow? NO! People like the Joker, so we'll give them the same story rehashed!"
Jason’s story is very relatable in the sense how you mentioned in the video “3 steps toward 2 steps backwards” because that’s how real life is sometimes everything could be fine for a lil then one thing sets you back I like how you were able to explain Jason’s story so well excellent video man!
Batman pummeling the shit out of Jason while he’s frantically trying to stop a massive explosion from saving his friends is so hilariously out of character
when i was little, watching batman and justice league cartoons, i never thought i'd become so emotionally attached to these stories years later... here i am as an adult and im even more obsessed with it than i was as a kid
I remember I was first introduced to Red Hood by the Under The Red Hood movie, and he quickly became one of my favorite comic book characters and as someone who doesn’t have easy access to comics I’m grateful you made this video
I'm definitely one of those that throw your videos on for work and such where I can listen; it's a bummer in a way cause I miss the art but you interpret a good story. Can't wait for more!
Amazing video Mullet Man; unlike Dick Grayson, who was Batman's Greatest Success, Jason Todd really is *Batman's Greatest Failure* . Jason is one of Batman lore's most exciting and complex characters. I love his philosophy of showing Batman how his method is flawed and how when he came back, he wasn't broken by the fact that Bruce didn't save him, but Jason was truly broken, and Batman never avenged his death by killing the Joker. I really hope writers figure out a good way to utilise Jason again because, in recent comics, it seems like DC editorial doesn't know what to do with him since they always try to make him a constant anti-hero but don't seem to give Jason any exciting stories and sort of make him feel less relevant. One thing about Jason I love the most is how he follows his instincts and has used his trauma and instinct to ensure no one else suffers through the same broken system and abuse he did before meeting Batman or becoming Robin and growing up in a life of poverty with a terrible father and mother that abandoned him and used him.
You know usually I struggle to sit and watch hour long videos like these, but you had me sat down and enthralled all the way through. Jason really is one of my favourite DC characters and being able to learn more things about his story that I didn't know before really heightened my view of him. He's a character who struggles through life, constantly being beaten down and feeling as though he's nothing but a failure to those he's held dear, and that really strikes a chord with me. But even through that, he's resilient and always manages to come back, slowly but surely. Like you said, it's always three steps forward and two steps back with Jason, and I love that about him. Anyway, I'm gonna stop rambling before I write a 5 page essay on why I love Jason Todd. Thanks for this amazing video!
A really great video and a needed one for Jason. Almost everyone who talks about Jason is focused on him being Batman's greatest failure, a cool killer, or a representation of the Batman's flawed moral code. I like how you have showed Jason as a character who struggles and tries to be his own self not defied by Joker's Torture or other tragedies. I had no idead it would take 1,5 hours, it is certainly a suprise, but a very welcome one and suprising myself I watched the whole thing from the beggining to an end. Thank you very much for spending so much time and putting so much work for this video, I hope it blows up since I've been watching you for a really long time and your channel is probably my favourite comic book focused channel on YT and this Red Hood video sets a major milestone for the other comic book related channels in my perspective. Now I will be going to eat some sandwiches since I'm starving, but once again, thank you very, very much for this video!
People also idealize Jason as Batman but who kills. It's a very teenage mindset to simplify such a complicated character like Jason to DC's The Punisher.
As a man named Michael, who didn't skip through half the video, because shame on those who do, I have some choice words for that other Michael. I suggest we duel, and the loser changes his name.
My god. The months-long wait was golden… There’s no good word such as “tragic”, “stoic”, or “depressing” in referencing Todd’s hellish life. He is…everything humanity harbours as feelings at the same time. Be it suffering, death, loss. How much he’s betrayed or faced unspeakable horrors; he never flinches. Yes, he does react. But that doesn’t make him give up. “Endearing”. I guess he truly is Batman’s greatest achievement’, mentioned the great Mullet-Man Comics. Personally, Red Hood is nothing but majestic story-telling. 100/100 video presentation!
After seeing this it’s crazy how the under the red hood movie took that one panel about killing joker and translated it to screen perfectly word for word
Please don’t tell me I am not the only one who love an appearance of, “The Blue Hood,” in future comics, I think Andy would be an amazing character as a hero
This is one of the greatest video essays I have ever seen. Jason is one of my favorite characters in fiction so it’s really cool to see you run down his history like this.
The Dark Trinity was an arc I didn't expect you to cover so tactfully. That Red Hood contemplated killing his buddy (which would have given him more powers) left a sour taste in my mouth when I first read the comic. In what universe does someone with that much trauma kill another person who he has a 1-to-1 kinship. However, I will never forget his desire to save Pup Pup; that was bittersweet misery. I won't take that slander that he's, "Batman's Greatest Accomplishment." I'll die on the hill that Nightwing is The World's Finest Hero for a reason. He is the version of Batman that transcends all others, nearly carrying The Family like a second patriarch. He's Michael Corleone-the greatest son and highest in potential.
Yeah i agree. Editoral doesnt always get characters right which jason suffers a lot from but regarding which son is batman prouder of id say parents dont really pick. He wants all his kids on good paths at least thats how id write him. I think thats why even after everything jason does he just wants the best for him. Dick doesn't have his darkness because of bruces intervention and mentorship and jason doesnt have his darkness consume him because of Bruce's intervention and mentorship. With them being the oldest siblings with such similar lives im sure theres always competition but regardless they represent the best of Bruce. A son who respects his father wishes and is his own person and a son who tries his best to respect his father wishes and is ultimately still his own person.
I love how on point and line for line the Red Hood movie was, though I think it was better without the extra background details. Like the nuke in Bludhaven or the universe just deciding that Jason was alive.
Way better video than most make on Jason Todd. Everyone talks about death in the family but fail to go the distance as you did. Great summary at the end.
Omg you don’t know how long I’ve been searching for a FULL history of Jason Todd😭😭😭😭😭😭😭. Every video I come across is always Jason Todd stole the wheels, Joker killed him, the her got revived. I’m so happy I found a video that tells more of his time as robin before he died 😁😁😁😁😁
I'd really love to see a video on Tim Drake, he's always been my favourite Robin and I feel like he isn't covered enough and that you'd really do him justice
It's was actually failure of fans, and Alfred who always is the one to push Dick, Jason and Tim to Be Robin, as The Batman always wanted to live safe not to be Robin that was the whole reason The Batman acts cold to them so They would leave because they don't listen when its says so to The colour of bright was also thier choice as the one of the fights The Batman told them was not to do so but they wanted to continue thier parents legacy that why Batman didn't taunt it but tries When ever it gets to not let them involve in any of the stuff but people still blame That Batman's be egoist but they don't realised The Batman is doing that to protect them.
Aight, honest to God, just finished watching the entire thing from start to finish. Really surprising since I tend to procrastinate a lot, especially for longer content but this one? I locked in man. What a wonderful, wonderful video. Two questions before I forget em. As of now, what is Jason doing in the comics? Second, did Arsenal really die? Also please cover The Hill comic when you end up reading it. Batman used to be my favourite hero ever, I idolized him. But I remember watching Jason being killed and my entire perspective regarding Batman shattered. I do not care about the inane reasoning or the justifications given by Batman fans or the writers themselves. Batman then quickly fell out of my favourites and still is to this day. On the other hand, Jason became one of my favourites. Any media I can consume of him, I watched it/read it. Comics aren't really a commodity readily available in my country (Pakistan) so I'm really, really grateful that you covered this. I thought I knew a lot but there were TONS of things I never even heard of regarding Jason here. Such as the outlaws, the trinity etc. The moments with Bizarro were so incredibly touching and I absolutely loved the way in which you conveyed Jason's story as one of growth and overcoming hardship and never, ever giving up rather than making it one of vengeance, anger and heartbreak. I loved this video, the ending especially, thank you from the bottom of my heart for making this ♥
@Dello678 yeah, but less of a Batman exclusive thing and more of the sad reality of the format of comics. No consistent writers or unified plan for how things would go, some writers wanting to use a character so constant resurrections, and endless merchandise to make so the need to constantly reuse the most popular villains/characters. If Batman killed Joker, then we'd get no more Joker stories and Warner Bros sits with a warehouse full of Joker funko pops. If Jason puts away his guns and gets therapy then fans would complain he wasn't interesting anymore and he was more fun as a psychopath.
You objectively only call whatever you do not want to admit or agree with as inane. You are aware Batman is NOT REAL right? Jason Todd was factually hated by a majority of readers, which is why he was killed off. It's hilarious that "you looked at" a ficticious children's story character "differently" because of the literal probable fact that the comic runners had to get rid of an extremely unpopular character. Keeo crying
I don’t care much for hero stories but the story of Red Hood that you covered is easily amazing. This video auto played for me whilst I was working and I definitely loved what I was listening to.
Your video came on after the actual one i picked, like you said, something to fall asleep to. It's stuff I already know, stories that i love hearing, another person elaborating a character for the millionth time. I was going to bed, so this video doesn't matter...but DAMN! do i love your cadence and humor. Once you said "a death in the family...see what i did there?.." I subscribed and liked

When did Tim almost commit suicide?
Oh yeah, yeah!!! I actually remembered that issue. I read it last year!!! I forgot about lol. 😂
Damn, even here, his girlfriends death is ignored. JUSTICE FOR STEPHANIE. XD
Tim Drake and Jason Todd. Two characters ruined by the new 52 and everything that came after.
I dont know why but the funniest image of jason for me is him standing there menacingly and just saying the words
hello, bed.
Shows the news of Batman killing Penguin.
Jason: "So, it's only ok when you kill Penguin."
Batman: "It's the fucking Penguin who's gonna give a shit?"
Jason: "Oh, and you let Joker live?"
@@bulbasaurguy4742tbh a bunch of rehashed joker stories ,is still better than every movie, after the dark knight ,except the Batman.

Jason and Terry are my favorite members of the Batfam. I'm glad to have an entire hour talking about him, maybe Terry will get one eventually
Same here bro

I've never played Skyrim but that quote goes so hard. Thank you for introducing me to that.
Jason’s story is very relatable in the sense how you mentioned in the video “3 steps toward 2 steps backwards” because that’s how real life is sometimes everything could be fine for a lil then one thing sets you back I like how you were able to explain Jason’s story so well excellent video man!
Where's the red hood video

Yeah bro where is it
Idk bro I have been waiting forever
It’s been 5 months and still; WHERE IS THE RED HOOD VIDEO !?
Honestly, Todd should've been a redhead. Grayson black hair. Drake blond. They all lookalike.
Hasn't Jason been through enough?
isnt that the point tho? they all look like their dad
Or Maybe just a different race or ethnicity, tbh
Wasn't he for a while though?

Just realized the "Under the Red Hood" movie has the dialogue word for word accurate. Pretty dope!
the fact that i was listening to this while using my phone and suddenly hearing "go flip your card to red michael" caught me so off guard
36:46 ooohh, THAT struck a cord in me and unlocked some MANY memories
Batman pummeling the shit out of Jason while he’s frantically trying to stop a massive explosion from saving his friends is so hilariously out of character
still not the most out of character he's ever been...
*glares at All Star Batman & Robin the Boy Wonder*
01:13:03 is funny af
when i was little, watching batman and justice league cartoons, i never thought i'd become so emotionally attached to these stories years later... here i am as an adult and im even more obsessed with it than i was as a kid
Bro that's me rn I didn't even read that many comics as a kid
This channel is fire thanks mullet man for delivering
36:55 well that aged well...
"The dude who dips himself in a vat of baha blast to regain his youth."😂🤣 so true💀 mullet man make more jokes like this please.
"HAHA DETECTIVE YOU ARE BANGING MY DAUGHTER!"
The scene in the beginning where nightwing and Batman talk for the first time is actually so well done like wow
Your videos keep getting better and better 🎉🎉
Great video. There were large swathes of the outlaws era stuff I didn't know about that was really interesting to hear about!
18:03 I'm so immature

i was looking for a comment like this once i heard it
Me too😂
You know usually I struggle to sit and watch hour long videos like these, but you had me sat down and enthralled all the way through.
“He could have thought to add pants, but idk prep time I guess” 😂 best line in the video
Certified red hood classic

As a man named Michael, who didn't skip through half the video, because shame on those who do, I have some choice words for that other Michael. I suggest we duel, and the loser changes his name.
My god. The months-long wait was golden…
There’s no good word such as “tragic”, “stoic”, or “depressing” in referencing Todd’s hellish life.
I just wanna say the quality in this video is top tier. I woke up because of my daughter, and this video just kinda popped on my head.
Great stuff! Thanks for doing this HUGE recap, must have taken so much work.
This is one of the greatest video essays I have ever seen. Jason is one of my favorite characters in fiction so it’s really cool to see you run down his history like this.
It's been decades
.
Thanks for your hard work
I have heard many renditions of the Red Hood and this one by far is my favorite. You told it so well! Keep up the good work!!!
That seems out of character for to want to KILL HIS LOVED ONES. He's supposed to be dangerous, yet compassionate. Not Jack Snyder's Batman.
Longform content from Mullet? God its everything I've wanted!
Finally, a video about Jason Todd that doesn't begin with "While Jason Todd is far from my favorite Robin..."
Not gonna lie, bizzarro being smart is probably the most shocking and funniest shit in DC
lmfao okay the "A new Batman shows up, with guns" made me laugh super hard. This video is incredible.
3 steps forwards and 2 steps back is still a step forwards, and I rly hope he gets a happy ending soon on god
“Step back you buffoons, only Lex Luthor can save Bizarro” has got to be my favorite sentence in the entire world

New 52 is such a "but why" move, honestly
I'd really love to see a video on Tim Drake, he's always been my favourite Robin and I feel like he isn't covered enough and that you'd really do him justice
Ah yes i am trying to fall asleep to this rn
“Shame on you, go flip your card to red.”
“Wait! I didn’t do it! I’m a good boy Mr. Mullet!!!”
His car meowing for food was the best ending for long TH-cam video ❤
I loved this video, the ending especially, thank you from the bottom of my heart for making this ♥
Same bro after Jason literally pointed out the fact that so many lives couldve been saved if Batman killed the Joker. I came to hate Batman honestly.
@@bluecanine3374 thats why i enjoy manga and manwha way more than comics tbh
You objectively only call whatever you do not want to admit or agree with as inane. You are aware Batman is NOT REAL right? Jason Todd was factually hated by a majority of readers, which is why he was killed off. It's hilarious that "you looked at" a ficticious children's story character "differently" because of the literal probable fact that the comic runners had to get rid of an extremely unpopular character. Keeo crying
@@Dello678 One small issue I have with that arguement. Jason didn't kill Joker either.
I don’t care much for hero stories but the story of Red Hood that you covered is easily amazing. This video auto played for me whilst I was working and I definitely loved what I was listening to.
You should talk about Duke Thomas I saw him when Red Hood was calling the bat family to aid him
Your video came on after the actual one i picked, like you said, something to fall asleep to. It's stuff I already know, stories that i love hearing, another person elaborating a character for the millionth time. I was going to bed, so this video doesn't matter...but DAMN! do i love your cadence and humor. Once you said "a death in the family...see what i did there?.." I subscribed and liked
I always wondered if Gotham villains noticed the different Robins. Here comes Crazy Quilt.
