Why These Jeans Are What Levi's Vintage Clothing Should Be! Warehouse Co. Selvedge Denim,

  • This was going to be a straight-up review on the Warehouse Co. 1003xx selvedge denim jeans. They are a fascinating pair of jeans and their story is well worth telling but as I looked at them more closely. I realized that there was a more pertinent point to be made. These jeans are what Levi's Vintage Clothing used to be. Let's dive into that. Oh, and while we're at it. Of course, I look at the fit and fades of the Warehouses.

Great overview. Bought my first pair of Warehouse 1001xx in Japan back in 1999 and I still have them today. It was the first time I'd seen reproduction jeans that appeared to accurately reproduce the denim fabric of 1950s Levi's 501xx. I was not disappointed. Accurate reproduction of the fabric is the most important aspect for me if buying vintage repro selvedge denim jeans to achieve a vintage look. Warehouse & Co. took repro selvedge denim to the next level.

SO happy you made this video! I've been eyeing a pair of Warehouses for a while now. Recently moved to the NY area and stopped by Self Edge, and I was finally able to see a pair in person - immediately decided that they would be my next pair of jeans (currently wearing a pair of N&F atm). I'd recommend checking out their t-shirts as well if you haven't already. ✌🏼

Fantastic score, Matt. Excellent commentary about Levi's reproduction jeans. Warehouse has some of the best repro jeans out there, in my opinion. Much of their denim is made on old Toyoda G3 looms which produce a beautiful denim fabric.

@@CeeAreDee I'm with you about obsessing over contrast fades. More and more I just want to wear them and wash them without thinking about it too much. Besides, those magical indigo blues emerge better the more you get them wet.

Thanks for posting, FWIW, as of 2022, Levi's LVC line are made in Japan now. At least the 1947, 1954, and maybe the 1966 (?). They are probably over priced still, but they are very cool jeans. They also make a 1980 selvedge jean thats pretty cool, but its made in China, and they are about $100 less than the Made in Japan jeans. Sugar Cane also makes some really cool repro jeans that can be had for a little over $200, which is a great price. Those Warehouse jeans look great and I love the vintage fades

  • @denindenim

A lot of LVC has failed for usability. It is mostly for collector value. I am bothered by made in Turkey, a don't want to support a regime. The denim throughout LVC years are differently woven.

Cracking vid! Loving the jeans particularly the wonky stitching on the belt loops … nice nod to the past without spoiling the look… in fact if anything looks less mass produced and more special “in my opinion”if that makes sense? Agree with craic on LVC and “in my opinion” sounds like they’re saving money for an inferior product… sewn in Turkey to save £££ but charging more £££ .. are you kidding me?!!

    • @CeeAreDee

I can't give them too much of a hard time on shifting the production. I guess there's just simply not the capacity. But raising the prices to a level where they are trying to have them seen as a "luxury" product. Seems a bit of a stretch to me. You're right.

The issue with Levi's is that they lost their identity and track of their roots. How cool wouldn't it have been if they kept being the original workwear brand that produced high quality stuff for a reasonable price? Just like Carhartt and Dickies. Instead, they've become this super trendy brand that aims towards way too many groups of people and try to satisfy all of them. That ends up in a mess when it comes to different fits and stuff.
Compare to Dickies for example. They have only a few fits and they do their original trousers the same way all the time. I've never experienced a sizing issue with Dickies. I buy them in the same size and wash them without even trying them on. A true workwear brand that does not try to satisfy anyone else. Levi's try so hard to be likeable, whereas Dickies just do their thing and if someone likes them, then they allow anyone to buy it.
I buy Levi's (mainly LVC jeans) because the fit is amazing but it's hard to justify sometimes with the quality to price ratio. They should make LVC jeans in USA and aim for a very specific group. Their way of constantly cutting down costs is so irritating. Too bad they make the best looking jeans by far.

Levis wouldn't have become this big of a company if they choose to be catering to a niche market.

@@obangga Converse has been GREATLY improved since being owned by Nike. I agree that the old made in USA chucks were cool, but honestly their vulcanization process was; yikes, sloppy! I think it's more about the nostalgia we have for things than their superiority. I liken this to my love for older Rolex! Cheap ass stamped metal clasps and hollow middle links on a 16600 over my 116600LV all day! (Sorry if that is too much inside baseball).
I have a few pairs of made in USA chucks in the boxes put away, and one pair that I used to wear, but they are now usually skipped over for the chuck 70.
I know everyone has different perspective on this stuff, so I'd love to hear what you think is missing from converse.

You are a bad influence on me. I already own an obscene amount of jeans and denim shirts and jackets because I was a welder by trade before I became ill. Now I'm seeing all these nice pairs of denim and I'm buying selvage denim now. I'm going to be buried in denim lmao! And I sew and ive found some selvage made in Japan denim by the yard to sew with. I want to make a full dress out of it. A long sleeved boat neck ankle length dress. Yasss. And lace up front. I'm working on drafting the pattern now and making the mock ups. Does home made items out of selvage denim count? I also have 3 yards of 15 Oz regular denim. Is that raw denim I guess? It's not treated in any manner. You've made me feel not so crazy for my love of denim. When I got married my mom made him promise to take me AND my jeans. Lmao. Seriously. I kept the jeans. Got rid of him.
If all of your jeans wear out at the crotch, why don't you buy them in a looser cut in that area? Or reinforce the inside as soon as you get them.
I am also into shashiko denim repair. I love it! It looks so cool. And it's a very strong repair. You can get the thread in indigo color and also do this in a more inconspicuous manner. Have you tried thus method as a denim repair? If not you should. I order authentic thread from Japan via a seller on etsy.

    • @CeeAreDee
      @CeeAreDee  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Looser fit would help a little bit true but not all that much and I like a more fitted jean. At to the reinforcement, I find that this becomes really uncomfortable. One of the reasons they go in the crotch so quick is that I have cyclist thighs. Adding more fabric would make them super uncomfortable. In the end I’ll just repair when they get through. Hope you’re feeling better.
