At about 7:50 when the thing is chasing you, I noticed you went down to 10 health, but you started regenerating health until it got you a 2nd time on that playthrough.
My only greatest fear was being chased by a giant teleporting bagel that could only shout bagel over and over again and they even had a wad for that. One day we all destroyed the mighty bagel and the fear was gone...

What I like about this mod is its simplicity. You either find the portal or die. The mazes and darkness are all that's left for your fears to run rampant. Not even music to accompany you, just the beating drum that gets faster or slower depending how close you are to Evil.
It plays right into my fears personally because I’m terrified of the dark and the atmosphere just makes me go from scared to terrified. While it isn’t traumatizing this left me peering over my bedsheets for a night. Sometimes less is more

The whole "you're being chased by a scary png" seems a bit like beating a dead horse nowadays, but if the .WAD was indeed created way before 2014 then wouldn't this have been one of the earlier ones of these types of games?
This stuff was already a dead horse back in 2014, the Ghoul's Forest series simply did this kind of cheap and disposable horror a thousand times better many years earlier.

Leaving me wide eyed and peering over my bedsheets for a bit? Sure, but it’s just a png chasing you with some spooky lighting, not much else. I feel a little silly being so spooked about it but even then I think the title is hyperbolic. It’s scary and it does that job well, but it’s nothing special and it’s certainly not some terrifying magnum opus of horror.
Okay, I thought I had gotten desensitized to the jumpscares of “EVIL” in the wad proper, but I was seriously not expecting multiple “EVILs” to appear when you swapped over to Underhalls. 😱
The most efficient (but not always fastest) way to navigate a maze is to pick either left or right and turn that way every time. When you hit a dead end, you just turn around and continue taking every turn of your chosen direction.
My greatest fear is suddenly having barb wire under my skin (thanks silent hill) I mainly overcome it by focusing on something else. (I have problems with intrusive thoughts..so it's difficult)
The creepy face file being named "Firebrand" makes me think it's a reference to a character from Tribe Twelve, a youtube series about Slenderman that was never finished because the creator was into little kids but that's another story for another day

A member of The Administrator(Slenderman)'s Collective(proxies) named the Observer laid it out like a game. With black pieces being Slendy and his goons, and white pieces being humans trying to fight back. The concept pretty much got scrapped a third into the show and never elaborated on in specific detail, but it's enough to get the general idea.
My greatest fear was the deep darkness of the sea, the crushing preassure of the uninhabitble deep terrified me just as much as the things that might live down there, tho with scuba diving, and a couple of games, like Barotrauma or Subnautica, i learned to appreciate it and be fascinated by it, so now, im both spooked and intreuged by the deep sea
One fear of mine is being in a building with no light and knowing that something is in there with me that is capable of seeing me. I know i can be attacked, but i would never know when.
I've always been freaked out by Spiders, which is weird because I also find them super interesting. But giant Spiders, particularly from movies and games, always freaked me out. Ironically what helped me get over this fear was replaying the Shelob's Lair level from the Lord of the Rings game while making a Let's Play for it

TBH doesn't sound like much of a good time to me. Doom without combat is like chili without beans, man. You could at least have it where you could whack a spook with the lantern to stagger it or something
As a combat vet, I don't fear anything anymore. I'm intrigued by the super natural, and I wonder what makes the most dangerous minds tick. I used to have an irrational fear of spiders but got over that after learning all about tarantulas. Got over my fear of heights by skydiving. There's not much else for me to fear besides the unkown, and that's something a dad doesn't have time to think about. 😁
It's probably because of the uncanny valley effect it gives, human teeth have a natural, yellowish tint to them, so perfect white teeth look weird to our subconscious, that's why those dental implants look so weird when people put them.
my greatest fear used to be the fear of the dark. overcame it by just forcing myself to sleep in the dark. i still get a little anxious outside at night, mostly because the fear of the unknown. i dont know whats behind me, or whats near me. my current greatest fear is probably the future. i feel many of my fears just tie into the fear of the unknown. my fear of the future comes in as being, i dont know what the future holds for me.
omfg this was the only time I've laughed at a raid sponsership, it literally goes straight from 'what's your deepest fear?' to raid shadow legends in a second and I lost it.
My biggest fear is isolation, by far. It almost killed me. And I don't mean that figuratively. I ended up reaching out when I needed it most, combating those nagging fears of me being annoying when I just needed company.
Most cheats are disabled on Nightmare. The only ones allowed I think are the level/music changing ones and IDDT, everything else will give you the prompt you saw. Other than that, it was interesting to see such an old mapset with some creepy stuff. Buen trabajo!
Once woke up at night to go pee, afterwards on my way back to bed, I step over a box, no seeing my dog's chew toy behind it, which I step on, and then I slip and fall forward, almost down flat to the floor level, except that luckily my face breaks my fall on the doorframe. Got a nice outline of the corner of my glasses cut into my cheek from that, always watch your step in the dark.
My fear was waking up randomly at night and seeing what i refered to as "It" in my room It was always intrested in games of hide and seek It hides somewhere in my room and I have to find it Else Goodluck sleeping when the feeling of being watched intensifies while the room got pitch black The way I got rid of it was quite a bad way and embarasing It came to scare me I came to it After that night Never seen or heard it again
something I love about watching Doom mod playthroughs is that there's something about the way the camera works where it's extremely easy to follow what the player is thinking. It's extremely emmersive.
You can win with the auto map and nothing else, just use the iddt cheat twice and expertly weave away from the moving thing, and strive for the object with tons of particles bursting out of it
My biggest fear is the sea, i just HATE IT because i have no idea whats below or how deep below is the floor, i just get so many chills when looking at photos underwater. Also the fact that you cant see anything being under the water just a blue fog. I also Hate looking at photos of stuff like boats or planes underwater
The sea is pretty scary, all sorts of things lurking below, ranging from relatively conventional predators sizing you up as dinner, to just _weird_ creatures, as well as the cold darkness and the idea of being swallowed up and never being able to come back up. I'm pretty comfortable on land.

there's one key detail you missed: the second monster is not the DOOM Guy trap or something, it's actually a second "EVIL." the second one is hidden in an inaccessible part of the map and from my understanding it is vital to most of the functionality of the map such as the timer that eventually causes the floor to move up, where to randomly place the orb objective object, and a few other things that i cant completely remember. iirc although its been a while since ive seen / played this map so take this with a grain of salt, but it also places a second thing that's invisible that it can see you through, and if this invisible thing sees you it will come right to you
It's not that scary if you think about it, it's just the idea of a goofy distorted face chasing you while playing random high pitched scream, but yeah it's still scary
My greatest fear was Thalassophobia. I always was panicaly scared of deep oceans to the point of passing out seeing it in a video game, funnily enough video games helped me get over it, Valheim and Sea of Thieves made me progressively more curious about the depths and i just stopped fearing it that much. Of course if im stranded in the ocean and all i see is darkness below im sure to shit my pants.

Try out Ghoul's Forest 3, it's basically this but there's level design and gameplay. Then see if you can get some guys together to play Ghouls Vs. Humans on Zandronum, turns out it's funny to get to play as the spooky murderghost and jumpscare your friends.
You are actually the evil monster. The glowing artifact is the real Doom guy. When you collect it, you killed the Doom guy as the monster. You are safe. For now. Until another Doom guy comes, and tries to do the same, to you. To collect your light, killing you, and making themself safe, for now...
I think my greatest fear might be of sleeping. It’s not exactly a common one, but it certainly isn’t healthy. This may tie into a more larger, broader fear of losing control, but I couldn’t truly say for certain. I share lots of fears that are equally paralyzing, but Somniphobia is probably the most physically unhealthy for me.
I genuinely think space is the MOST interesting topic possible. It’s like a giant iceberg and the information just gets deeper and deeper without ending.
For disturbing doom wads you should check out the ones made by Eric Harris, the wads themselves aren't super scary or anything but its the thought of knowing that a week later after it was made one of the most tragic moments in history happened
He actually made some videos covering those. Although I do wish he'd cover UAC Military Nightmare, the very first troll WAD which sparked the troll WAD genre at the time.

Harris made a bunch of them over time, it wasn't just a week before the murders. Has a mildly unsavory feeling when you play them, but there really isn't anything particularly interesting about them beyond the fact that the author was a murderer. If you didn't know he made them, you would think nothing at all about them.
i always had a huge darkness fear, i don´t mind dark places where you can see stuff, but then there is my cousin's basement in which at night it looks like a void, that is the kind of darkness that i cannot stand even to this day
Greatest fear is death. Its not something you can really get over, but now I only feel a mild sense of impending doom thinking about it rather than a full on panic attack.
my greatest fear is the fear of deep underwater spaces. like, not just water, but deep under it's layer. i encountered this fear while playing a game "aground". at some point you will land on a planet that is 99% ocean. yes, you need to go really deep to find answers. this was insanely scary and disturbing, swimming in very dark spaces, where only 2 mobs were in there and knowing that if my submersible gets destroyed - i will die by insane pressure of the ocean. dark caves? nahh, that's easy. dark flooded caves? i'm out of here.

That evil head is the polar opposite of Yoshie Kimura, who moves slowly and is white instead of black, but equally creepy. That 2016 fan game "Death Forest" is truly creepy.
My greatest fear used to be the darkness. The i played outer wilds echos of the eye dlc and the buitiful story made made me realise. That eventually to keep moving forward you have to embrace the darkness. As that is all that will be left eventually
I never understood how games like this are scary.Its scripted and somehow less scary than the game used to create it.I guess Im just not easily spooked by anything for whatever reason.
It's a cheap and disposable kind of horror. Spooky face chases you in the dark and kills you, but there's really nothing else to it, so the mileage is extremely short and you forget about it easily.
Anyone else think the face is a little silly, after seeing Jeff the killer jump scares and the like all the time as a kid, stuff like this doesn’t have the same scare effect anymore.

My greatest fear is pretty common, I had the fear of spiders, it had gotten to a point where I would put a plastic bowl or Tupperware and waited till the spider died. I got over it by voluntarily doing exposure therapy, I used a tool called a bug zooka that sucked a bug into a clear capsules and I caught a lot of spiders, including a black widow.
My greatest fears are the dark(thanks to watching creepypasta stories before bed back when i was in middleschool) and wasps, because one nearly stung me on my face
This mod is a great metaphor for human life: you just run around, scared by unknown fears, not knowing what's coming next, chasing some goal moved by reasons you don't quite understand, and when you finally accomplish your goal, them you are just throw into another maze of nonsense... Until something kills you sooner or later.

I don't get this one. The sv_cheats was false by default; just set it true and restart GZ, what's the problem.

You should play the Doom 2 wad lasting light next. You can't kill any of the monsters nor can you use weapons only a lantern, and its really dark.

As a combat vet, I don't fear anything anymore. I'm intrigued by the super natural, and I wonder what makes the most dangerous minds tick. I used to have an irrational fear of spiders but got over that after learning all about tarantulas. Got over my fear of heights by skydiving. There's not much else for me to fear besides the unkown, and that's something a dad doesn't have time to think about. 😁

my greatest fear used to be the fear of the dark. overcame it by just forcing myself to sleep in the dark. i still get a little anxious outside at night, mostly because the fear of the unknown. i dont know whats behind me, or whats near me.
my current greatest fear is probably the future. i feel many of my fears just tie into the fear of the unknown. my fear of the future comes in as being, i dont know what the future holds for me.
omfg this was the only time I've laughed at a raid sponsership, it literally goes straight from 'what's your deepest fear?' to raid shadow legends in a second and I lost it.
My biggest fear is isolation, by far. It almost killed me. And I don't mean that figuratively. I ended up reaching out when I needed it most, combating those nagging fears of me being annoying when I just needed company.

Most cheats are disabled on Nightmare. The only ones allowed I think are the level/music changing ones and IDDT, everything else will give you the prompt you saw. Other than that, it was interesting to see such an old mapset with some creepy stuff. Buen trabajo!

Once woke up at night to go pee, afterwards on my way back to bed, I step over a box, no seeing my dog's chew toy behind it, which I step on, and then I slip and fall forward, almost down flat to the floor level, except that luckily my face breaks my fall on the doorframe.
Got a nice outline of the corner of my glasses cut into my cheek from that, always watch your step in the dark.
My fear was waking up randomly at night and seeing
what i refered to as "It" in my room
It was always intrested in games of hide and seek
It hides somewhere in my room and I have to find it
Else Goodluck sleeping when the feeling of being watched intensifies while the room got pitch black

something I love about watching Doom mod playthroughs is that there's something about the way the camera works where it's extremely easy to follow what the player is thinking. It's extremely emmersive.

You can win with the auto map and nothing else, just use the iddt cheat twice and expertly weave away from the moving thing, and strive for the object with tons of particles bursting out of it
My biggest fear is the sea, i just HATE IT because i have no idea whats below or how deep below is the floor, i just get so many chills when looking at photos underwater. Also the fact that you cant see anything being under the water just a blue fog. I also Hate looking at photos of stuff like boats or planes underwater
The sea is pretty scary, all sorts of things lurking below, ranging from relatively conventional predators sizing you up as dinner, to just _weird_ creatures, as well as the cold darkness and the idea of being swallowed up and never being able to come back up.
I'm pretty comfortable on land.
The thing that makes sea scary is that if you drowned at the sea your body will never to be seen again.
Firebrand was the name of that pain in the arse red gargoyle from the Ghouls and Ghosts series.

there's one key detail you missed: the second monster is not the DOOM Guy trap or something, it's actually a second "EVIL." the second one is hidden in an inaccessible part of the map and from my understanding it is vital to most of the functionality of the map such as the timer that eventually causes the floor to move up, where to randomly place the orb objective object, and a few other things that i cant completely remember. iirc although its been a while since ive seen / played this map so take this with a grain of salt, but it also places a second thing that's invisible that it can see you through, and if this invisible thing sees you it will come right to you

My greatest fear was Thalassophobia. I always was panicaly scared of deep oceans to the point of passing out seeing it in a video game, funnily enough video games helped me get over it, Valheim and Sea of Thieves made me progressively more curious about the depths and i just stopped fearing it that much. Of course if im stranded in the ocean and all i see is darkness below im sure to shit my pants.

Try out Ghoul's Forest 3, it's basically this but there's level design and gameplay. Then see if you can get some guys together to play Ghouls Vs. Humans on Zandronum, turns out it's funny to get to play as the spooky murderghost and jumpscare your friends.

I think my greatest fear might be of sleeping. It’s not exactly a common one, but it certainly isn’t healthy. This may tie into a more larger, broader fear of losing control, but I couldn’t truly say for certain. I share lots of fears that are equally paralyzing, but Somniphobia is probably the most physically unhealthy for me.
That's a pretty interesting and unusual fear, and a difficult one to live with.
I genuinely think space is the MOST interesting topic possible. It’s like a giant iceberg and the information just gets deeper and deeper without ending.
For disturbing doom wads you should check out the ones made by Eric Harris, the wads themselves aren't super scary or anything but its the thought of knowing that a week later after it was made one of the most tragic moments in history happened

Harris made a bunch of them over time, it wasn't just a week before the murders. Has a mildly unsavory feeling when you play them, but there really isn't anything particularly interesting about them beyond the fact that the author was a murderer. If you didn't know he made them, you would think nothing at all about them.

my greatest fear is the fear of deep underwater spaces.
like, not just water, but deep under it's layer.
i encountered this fear while playing a game "aground". at some point you will land on a planet that is 99% ocean. yes, you need to go really deep to find answers. this was insanely scary and disturbing, swimming in very dark spaces, where only 2 mobs were in there and knowing that if my submersible gets destroyed - i will die by insane pressure of the ocean.

My greatest fear used to be the darkness. The i played outer wilds echos of the eye dlc and the buitiful story made made me realise. That eventually to keep moving forward you have to embrace the darkness. As that is all that will be left eventually
I never understood how games like this are scary.Its scripted and somehow less scary than the game used to create it.I guess Im just not easily spooked by anything for whatever reason.
It's a cheap and disposable kind of horror. Spooky face chases you in the dark and kills you, but there's really nothing else to it, so the mileage is extremely short and you forget about it easily.
Anyone else think the face is a little silly, after seeing Jeff the killer jump scares and the like all the time as a kid, stuff like this doesn’t have the same scare effect anymore.

My greatest fear is pretty common, I had the fear of spiders, it had gotten to a point where I would put a plastic bowl or Tupperware and waited till the spider died. I got over it by voluntarily doing exposure therapy, I used a tool called a bug zooka that sucked a bug into a clear capsules and I caught a lot of spiders, including a black widow.

This mod is a great metaphor for human life: you just run around, scared by unknown fears, not knowing what's coming next, chasing some goal moved by reasons you don't quite understand, and when you finally accomplish your goal, them you are just throw into another maze of nonsense... Until something kills you sooner or later.
