Good advice. I would add, know your parts, practice! When all else fails just listen to your bandmates, know your parts, tune-out the audience until you find yourself again. Simplify the mindset down to "me and my band doing what we know how to do". There's a confidence in that assuming you've put in the work.

My approach: Just do what you're afraid of. Go out and play where people are. On the streetcorner, bus stop, in the park or small venues. You'll mess up first, but the more you do it, the less you'll think about it.

Thank you, Mr. Taub. This is very timely. 26 years of noodling alone with nobody around to two years of intensively practicing & learning with another super gifted beginner & occasional jam sessions with very experienced vocalist, keyboard, & guitarist and I’m learning more quickly but occasional anxiety about my ability being critiqued (nobody is judging me) & this chat from you helps me SO MUCH. God Bless!

Yes good video. I have noticed my skill reduced as I performed live. It's because of the infrequent amount of playing live. Once you keep doing it, you get more comfortable and it gets easier.

It really messes with my hands.. esp on tougher licks that are right on the jagged edge of not being playable.. add an audience all staring at me and my hands stop functioning like I need them to

Hey man thanks for sharing your thoughts and tips on how to over come the nervousness. Last night I played an original song on stage for the first time and I couldn't get my leg to stop shaking man. Before I went up I kept trying to calm my heart rate down but sense I was trying to resist it it almost made it worse. This is something I was truly scared to do but I did it anyway. Your words and tips really helped me a lot and next opportunity that presents itself to me I will remember what you said thanks man and take care.

In 3 hours and 30 minutes, I’ll be playing in front of an audience.
I feel like I’m on death row. 3 hours until - execution. To the gallows….public hanging.
💀💀💀💀. They’ll be saying “wow, that guy was horrible. He can’t play”.
I will be judged. I cannot do this. It is impossible…..

@@EpicGuitarInstruction Hey David, thank you for the quick reply!
      UPDATE:
I just played 6 songs in front of an audience. I looked at my FitBit and noted my heart rate was in the 80s and 90s. One loses fine motor skills when it’s up like that due to stress.
Yes, I flubbed an ultra-difficult Barney Kessel jazz piece but made up for it with the other songs.
You are correct. Nobody noticed. But - I noticed!!!
Interesting phenomenon. Oh - and I’ve been playing since Jimmy Carter was
President but rarely perform. The only way past this is to continue performing.

awesome - glad you got through the first one - that is the hardest - please know it gets easier and easier each time. You can do it. Keep playing and performing.
