Thank you so much for your kind words. Mine vary: approximately four inches or so horizontally, but you can make them any size you like. Because they are a lot of work (though fun) I typically have between 51 or 80 or so motifs to make a 3 feet by 4 feet afghan. To make the motifs uniform as possible I'd highly recommend using the same texture/weight of yarn and definitely avoid super thick or thin yarn if possible.
