I've missed One-off Wednesdays. The majority of things featured in this slot have ended up on my wishlist. This will be joining them. Thanks for showing it off, Dan! UPDATE: Scratch the wishlist, it's on sale! Bought it immediately.
While all of Dan's praises for the game are true and warrant mention I can't believe he didn't call to attention how absolutely adorable the shiplings are! The happy little spin you do when getting upgrades / leveling was so endearing to me as well as the little sweat drops when you enter an arena. Jokes aside the game is genuinely polished and is overall a pretty relaxing, pleasant experience. I'm very happy Dan is spotlighting it. Hoping the ship spin makes it into Dan's favourite animation moments of the year lol.
As someone who uses these one offs as zone out therapy, the combo of animation, art style, sound design and soundtrack is VERY relaxing and satisfying to watch. That and Dan's voice ofc ❤
Dan uncovering the switch at 13:15 and then immediately going away... I bet that leads to some sales of this game by itself so people can see what would have happened.
Yay one-off Wednesdays! You've shared so many games on Wednesdays that I've ended up loving! ❤ I really am happy about how many games have these accessibility features. I love games, but sometimes I just want to enjoy the story, and sometimes I'm very interested in a game but I'm just not very good at it. Hades is a great example. The story is 100% my jam, and I do have a regular save file, but I'm not great at it. So I ended up with a God Mode file when I got frustrated with my lack of progress and just wanted to be able to learn more about the characters. The fact of the matter is that I have chronic pain and chronic fatigue, and after working full-time, sleeping 12+ hours a night, and all the time I have to dedicate to managing my illnesses, I just can't devote that much time to games anymore. So accessibility features help people like me still enjoy games without getting stuck for ages on any particular challenge.
Dan loving accessibility options. Dan also doing a full play though of all of the Souls Bourn Games........ Never change Dan (and Carrie), great job as always
In the time when one-off Wednesdays has been gone, I have played and beaten at least 4 different games I discovered from one-offs (Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, Potionomics, Patrick's Parabox, Citizen Sleeper). Can't wait to extend that list further!
Found this game via Scurry recently, and gawd dang I was flipping shocked at how great this game is. Really not what I was expecting from a game opening with such charmingly quaint writing and aesthetics!
finished the demo when it first came out, it was soooooo good. not too difficult, satisfying, and between the visuals and the sound effects a joy to play
I'm low-key surprised that Dan plays games in his free time. Considering how much time he spends playing games for the channel, and playing games for New Frame Plus (and working on games for his day job), I figured he would want to do something else when he gets time to himself.
7:13 Boy that's not a reference and a half, is it? 11:33 26:54 Having seen top-down, rogue-adjacent, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., I'm not even slightly surprised this works. 36:05 Yea, I was smiling when you explained the hidden path, given how many times you went right past this one.
So happy these are back! I can't watch the Elden Ring videos as I'm still beating the main game, so it's nice to have a little Wednesday oasis mid week ^_^
37:20 Ceramic is a perfectly valid armor material, Dan >:P Even if it's a bit more, uh... Ablative than metal. I mean, maybe there's just not a ton of hard metals on this planet, except for those shields the enemies have, and it usually limits their movement pretty hard, so... Hmm. Hmmm.
2:25: Why did you need to hit that button? ...can your spaceship not fly over water?? 7:50: What kind of vehicle is this and why does it look like a spaceship? 12:30: Those pots are bigger than your spaceship-like vehicle. 16:10: Is that...TRON squid?...the same kind of vehicle as the player? 16:20: Why can _it_ fly over pits and such?? 29:15: Why does everything except you fly? 34:45: Okay, not _everything_ flies. But why do you have useless wings?? What are you, a high-tech kiwi??? 25:05: On an unrelated note, I remember a bunch of Flash shmups I played as a kid where the two-bullet powerup prevented you from firing straight ahead, forcing you to shoot like 20-40 degrees to either side. Like the three-bullet powerup, without the bullet that shoots where you point. Weird design choice. This game doesn't make it. Bullets stay next to other bullets.
You know, seeing this game sent me on like a half hour search trying to remember the name of the game Sigma Star Saga. ... Which I have succeeded in doing, as you can see. Though figuring that out was a surprisingly obtuse process. Also it is also a good game that combines space combat and a kind of Legend of Zelda exploration map. Though with side scrolling combat maps as like, random RPG encounters rather than top down twin stick shooting like this. Still, definitely a game I have fond memories of.
I am absolute hot garbage at twin-stick shooters and bullet-heck games but MAN I wish I weren't so that I could play this. It is super charming. *Edit:* Oh! And you actually addressed that point! Well then... now I just need the money to buy it! 🤣
wishlisted - I've always been scared of twin-sticks, this seems like the kind of setting where I could actually enjoy one (and get a hair better at them)
Gosh-dangit, Dan Floyd, I did NOT need another game to buy! Especially not one that has serious accessibility options and a free demo. One-off Wednesday strikes again! [shakes fist]
I don't know when I'm gonna play it, but I put it on my wishlist because of a conversation between Dan Jones and Will Overgard I just don't know how to feel about the character being the actual ship
I haven't watched this one, but one-offs haven't all been hits (some definitely have!). Why instead don't we have a bonus play through, since FFXIV has eaten that spot and it won't be giving it up for a long time?

UPDATE: Scratch the wishlist, it's on sale! Bought it immediately.
Dan: Finds switch, Dan: Doesn't push switch, Dan: "This is feeling like a dead end." Never change, Dan.
Then there's the secret he past 3x.

7:14 Was expecting an old man to be in that cave and say "Its dangerous to go alone, take this." and hand you a sword.
Yay! I missed one-off Wednesday. Great for some variety. And this is a great pick.
Dan uncovering the switch at 13:15 and then immediately going away... I bet that leads to some sales of this game by itself so people can see what would have happened.
the enemy designs make me think of a pizza topped with a sad single slice of pepperoni
One off Wednesday's is back, Every Frame a Painting is announced to be coming back.
Today is a good day.

It’s so funny how Shiplet sweats every time they get stuck in an arena, like “D’aw geeze, again? How did I stumble into this one?”
Oooh I like how the enemies change color to show you they’re at low health
Huzzah! One off Wednesday is back!

Scurry has excellent taste, I need to watch their stuff more
I missed saying "Dangit Dan, stop playing cool games on One-Off-Wednesdays! My wallet can only pay for so much!" XD
9:00 "There's secrets everywhere!"
Of course. It's a secret to everyone.
This reminds of so many arcade games I played as a kid love it
Steam recommended me this during the Summer Sale. I was of two minds about it, but after seeing this I've decided to buy it. Thank you, Dan!

Well timed "you might not think this is for you" placement 😅

the accessibility options are very nice on top of this level of polish, i am impressed
This game is really, really amazing! Can't recommend highly enough!
I had such a good time playing this, I went through it twice!

So glad to see this game here on the much welcome back One off Wednesday's, can't recommend this delight enough
Before Dan said it, I was thinking, "There should really be a Dan Jones stream of this game!"
Ohhh that's wonderful! I watched Skurry's playthrough but it was too abrdiged, I'm happy I'll get to see it in a slower pace now!
This is a one off I'm afraid, but you can find Skurry's less abridged playthrough on their vod channel!
32:14 But what if I wanted it to be even more faster?
Love this game!!! This feels like the kind of game that would be released on Xbox live arcade and still hold up 14 years later
You know, seeing this game sent me on like a half hour search trying to remember the name of the game Sigma Star Saga.

Man, if only this was available on the Switch! I'd totally buy this game if I could play it!
I hope this comes to the Switch (or Switch 2). I only have a Switch and a PC and this doesn't feel like the kind of game I want to play on computer.
I don't think I've ever caught a new play frame video this soon after upload. 😲
DOWN and to the right? Heresy according to Thomas Was Alone :P
Spouse and I literally said “no, UP and to the right.”
I am absolute hot garbage at twin-stick shooters and bullet-heck games but MAN I wish I weren't so that I could play this. It is super charming.

I love these wensday slots, but they keep costing me money.
Literally beat this game last night lol
Soooo… OG Zelda but gun!? This goes on my To Do List!!
Another mashup of these genres is Binding of Isaac. Very different vibe, though.
Is the artist of this the same of The Legend of Ditto? There's something about the style that makes me think about that game :)
Well, you owe me $12 for making me buy it :P
I don't know when I'm gonna play it, but I put it on my wishlist because of a conversation between Dan Jones and Will Overgard

The game does look rad, but alas/thanfully for my wallet, no console port yet.
