Getting every achievement in this game including the ones where you beat the game without dying and the one where you beat it in less than 3 minutes are some of the things I am most proud of myself for achieving in gaming.
This game reminds me of Journey for the PS3. It's short and simple, you just have to go from point A to point B. But you absorb all the beauty along the way. Games like this truly bring to life the idea that "it's the journey, not the destination".
(Reposted this comment from "MidnightWonko" because the timestamps broke on his comment) And now, because no one has asked me to do so, here are all the songs and when they start in the video: The Lonely Tower 0:00 (Title screen) Stairway to Revelation 0:50 (First levels) Luna Ascension 1:52 (Outside the tower) Sanctuary Zero 2:35 (Secret rooms) Atop the World 3:17 (End scene, plus segue into next song) Atop the World (piano) 3:35 (Epilogue and credit roll) Eternal Sanctity 4:31 (Results) Indignant Divinity 5:56 (Later levels) Thumbs up me to glue this TOC!
I have some ideas for what the laws symbolize: Not touching gold blocks symbolizes selflessness, not just because of the color but because those are often otherwise convenient platforms. Not running into walls symbolizes patience, because if you rush you will guaranteed run into a wall. Not walking left symbolizes dedication, because turning away from the exit signals wavering. The workaround to that symbolizes the realization that your religion is full of doublespeak. The treasures symbolize tidbits of advice received from secret outside sources, the last part symbolized by the fact that the laws don't apply in those rooms. The quiet room symbolizes a scripted ritual where you have preset lines and dare not challenge them. Not touching living things symbolizes purity, as wildlife is usually dirty. Not checking the book symbolizes faith, as you need to know all four other laws by heart to complete that stage. The stairs up from level 10 symbolize predestination as you realize that you're not a chosen one under your religious laws anyway. And all the laws getting thrown out the window for the last level symbolizes the sudden realization that God doesn't exist, gold blocks remaining dangerous symbolizes that greed is a dangerous temptation anyway, and the difficulty increasing further symbolizes the difficulty of navigating a godless world.
nah, not walking left is not looking backwards, as in, not dwelling on the past. Specifically, not dwelling on past mistakes or second guessing yourself.
And now, because no one has asked me to do so, here are all the songs and when they start in the video: The Lonely Tower 0:00 (Title screen) Stairway to Revelation 0:50 (First levels) Luna Ascension 1:52 (Outside the tower) Sanctuary Zero 2:35 (Secret rooms) Atop the World 3:17 (End scene, plus segue into next song) Atop the World (piano) 3:35 (Epilogue and credit roll) Eternal Sanctity 4:31 (Results) Indignant Divinity 5:56 (Later levels) Thumbs up me to glue this TOC!
No Words Can Express How I Feel About This Music. To which is Life and to what is promised We just move forwards with our intentions and believes to find true heaven is to learn from our past mistakes and actions.
@MarkP0rter In the game "Tower of Heaven" there are "laws" that you have to follow, arbitrary rules like "no walking left" or "no looking at the rules".
That's your opinion. In my eyes, this game is art. Everything from the design, to the music to the atmosphere is magical to me, and what one person may define as art, the other person might not. It's completely up to ourselves what we classify as art.
The creator of this beautiful music piece is Flashygoodness. Please read the full description of the video for the creator's website so you can download his music for like 1$. Completely worth it
this isn't any ordinary game....this game is only discovered and loved by people who have true taste of good games....not people who plays call of duty or GTA.....i realized it because this is a treasure with it's gameboy like graphics and amazing music......this game truly deserves the name tower of heaven :)
Fun observations about this game: The laws can be interpreted as discarding base human desires in an attempt to become Godlike. Avoiding gold blocks is abandoning greed, moving without touching walls is avoiding interaction with the world, not moving left can be seen as not looking back, not touching living things is removing oneself from humanity, and not checking the rules is akin to omniscience and/or faith. Also, just before stage 11, when God closes a door he opens a window.
Aren't you missing one song? Farewell Traveller, if I remember correctly. It's my second favourite song of that OST. Thank you though for posting this I enjoy it a lot
By far the best and most underrated video game soundtrack ever made, only rivaled by UNDERTALE and terraria calamity, but I would argue it’s better than both!
It's amazing games such as this, Cave Story, VVVVVV, and other indie games (not including Minecraft) that are literal works of art. They proves that a fair challenge, great sound track, and/or deep stories/meanings are what define a true video game that we will always come back to play and enjoy, much like the classic games of the late '80s, '90s, and early 2000s. But alas, in this generation where all that matters is graphics and multiplayer, such a philosophy is lost.
@wootsausemanman Yes, it's indie. Indie is a pretty fuzzy term meant to describe a creation that is "unsigned", as it would be called in the musical world. It is independent and not really under the influence of gaming companies, large game producers, etc.
I was never trying to imply a deep story/meaning was required to make a good game. Rather, it's one of the factors that can make a game great if chosen to be focused on, like sound track, challenge, replayability, and even gameplay. Classic games like the ones you listed and more may not have deep stories/meanings, but they do have all the other factors I like, and that make a true game. If you like games for their gameplay, then more power to you. I just like games for those reasons said before
@DSYoshi That's true thought, some 'regular game producers' do create a game with willpower and enthusiasm, yet, there aren't many like them. If you want an example I'd save "Valve", you just need to play one of their games to realize that that kind of developers really exist.
I hate this video... Because it makes me sad whenever I listen to it.... feels like something is missing... that life is so small and that my memories are somewhere out there waiting for me to relive them again to be corrected.. But time moves forward.. just have to make do with what I am now.
This whole soundtrack is a reminder to all memes. Let this be a leason to all, this game gave me the inspiration to make Top 100, Top 300, and Top 500 internet meme videos. Thou shall go no further beyond inspiration.
@Supaduck0 The composer is called Flashygoodnes. Go on and look up his website or deviantArt, he has a flash 'music gallery' with plenty more pieces to listen to!
the game is balls to the walls difficult, but something about this masterful soundtrack pushes me forward and continues. The game and the music are pure genius.
About major commercial game designers and independent. I think they'd love to and probably do make independent games with their own ideas etc. But what happens is when your working for a company the corporation expects games that will sell and kind of have certain guidelines/visions. Usually the games come out generic because of this. Where as indie programmers can just do what they want... which often creates new fun exciting concepts.
@napukapu Windows has encountered a fatal error while agreeing: Tower of Heaven's design is amazing enough to warrant a Flash rerelease that also has a level editor, which happened. You will now be attacked by a troll-faced necromancer with a chaingun.
I've never seen the game in my life and I actually came here from the Community remix, but this is some of the most beautiful music I've ever heard come from a game. Simply amazing.
hating on call of duty is easy. Truth is, no matter how much you hate it for whatever reason, it's still a game that accomplishes exactly what it wants to: addicting fast paced action that is really fun and spectacular. Maybe it's a different kind of art from the "whoa, so beautiful graphics and music", but it still counts in my book.
I don't know why people are calling it THAT hard. I beat it within 20 or so minutes, though that is long for a game so short. I'd call it tricky, maybe challenging, but it just takes patients. Still, quite artistic, and of course, amazing soundtrack.
i just wish the secret ending song were here. i loved it so much, and it was well worth getting the secrets. the orchestrated version is simply beatiful
Saying that Call of Duty is an insult to the gaming community is ridiculous. A lot of talented people put their time and effort into it, and by all means, the latest installment is a fantastic FPS. And yeah, I'll be honest, it has little to no philosophical value, but that's not the only kind of value a game can have. It's still entertaining. It's a fun game to play with friends on the weekend, and for that, I love it. Just as much I love Tower of Heaven for the amazing music and story.
This is honestly one of the most beautiful soundtracks I've ever heard from a game.
Getting every achievement in this game including the ones where you beat the game without dying and the one where you beat it in less than 3 minutes are some of the things I am most proud of myself for achieving in gaming.
Why cant I like this multiple times?!
Wow, this sound track is definitely my favorite.... well, tied with the Cave Story soundtrack... which you should all listen to.
This game reminds me of Journey for the PS3. It's short and simple, you just have to go from point A to point B. But you absorb all the beauty along the way. Games like this truly bring to life the idea that "it's the journey, not the destination".

Atop the World 3:17 (End scene, plus segue into next song)
Atop the World (piano) 3:35 (Epilogue and credit roll)
Eternal Sanctity 4:31 (Results)
Indignant Divinity 5:56 (Later levels)
Thumbs up me to glue this TOC!
first flash game where, when i was dying i wasnt getting angry but compelled to keep going and the music definitely helped with that
Makes me sad seeing how long ago this was. i remember playing this on newgrounds

GG no Re m8. GG.
I agree completely.
nah, not walking left is not looking backwards, as in, not dwelling on the past. Specifically, not dwelling on past mistakes or second guessing yourself.
+alienspacebat So then, what is speedrunning?
Whoops That's not in-game so it doesn't count. Also Clout Gang's comment fits with his profile picture :D
I have an idea too:
This comment symbolizes you projecting your atheist worldview onto an indie game.
0:00 ~ Tower of Heaven [Title Screen]
0:49 ~ Stairway to Revelation [First Stages]
1:51 ~ Luna Ascencion [Medium difficulty Stages]
2:35 ~ Sanctuary Zero [Hidden Maps + Transition Maps]
3:17 ~ Atop the World [Ending + Credits]
4:30 ~ Eternal Sanctity [Game Results]
5:56 ~ Indignant Divinity [Last Map / Lawless Level]
It is missing the Level Creator music.
You kinda mixed up Luna Ascension and Indignant-
Wait a minute... Huh, an 8 year old comment. Nice.
And now, because no one has asked me to do so, here are all the songs and when they start in the video:

This is the best musical inspiration i've seen in such a long time, thank you for this beautiful soundtrack
Glad you enjoyed it!

This is on a playlist for Full OSTs of games for me and I go to this one first almost everytime. So beautiful.
The creator of this beautiful music piece is Flashygoodness. Please read the full description of the video for the creator's website so you can download his music for like 1$. Completely worth it
Hmm, I've not heard of this game before but the soundtrack's really nice. Would anyone recommend it?
Yes, Tower of Heaven is an excellent game.
Yep. It's a very short flash game but it's worth the play, that is if you haven't played it yet. xD
It's one of those you have to play, and best of all, it's free.
This makes me cry everytime. Omg.
I still can't bear how awesome this is.
this isn't any ordinary game....this game is only discovered and loved by people who have true taste of good games....not people who plays call of duty or GTA.....i realized it because this is a treasure with it's gameboy like graphics and amazing music......this game truly deserves the name tower of heaven :)
It is a game about greater things than a human can imagine. You describe it pretty well though. It says so much more than the text.
Atop The World is one of the most absolutely fabulous songs i've ever heard.
one of the hardest games iv'e ever played. I had so many rage quits but I kept going just to hear the next soundtrack xD
This is Beautiful!
Fun observations about this game:
The laws can be interpreted as discarding base human desires in an attempt to become Godlike.

The best fucking music I've ever heard. Almost makes me tear up every listen-through.
There must've been a lot of hype for this video then.
Haven't played the game, but stumbled upon this.
Needless to say, I'm gonna play it now.
Veeeery rarely do flash game soundtracks get my attention, this was definitely good though!
this is just amazingly awsome
William, That Comment Was Amazing
This is so incredibly perfect!
best soundtrack of all time
Do u know where can I play it again?
Manuel Nava Look it up on Newgrounds. Pretty sure that's where it originated from. Amazing game, wouldn't you agree?
Manuel Nava official page? i'm pretty sure that everything comes from their official page :D
Bought the album, best dollar spent for the month.
This made me cry.

I'm a bit concerned almost every song is repeating the same thing, but i'm not concerned because it's just awesomeee.
All except the last one.
I was never trying to imply a deep story/meaning was required to make a good game. Rather, it's one of the factors that can make a game great if chosen to be focused on, like sound track, challenge, replayability, and even gameplay.

I played this game at school then everyone including the teacher started to play...the room was filled with frustration and fun :3
I played the game only aiming at hearing those awesome songs
The music is awesome. The graphics are pretty stylish too. This is excellent.
It's so addicting!
Holy...
Nuts. Gotta play this ASAP
I forgot about this awesome game. Thanks for the reminder!
Wonderful
Luna Ascension and Indiginant divinity are perhaps two of the best 8-bit songs i've ever heard.
This game was fun and challenging. Love it
I hate this video...
Because it makes me sad whenever I listen to it.... feels like something is missing... that life is so small and that my memories are somewhere out there waiting for me to relive them again to be corrected..
But time moves forward.. just have to make do with what I am now.
+Nepgear but time flows like a river... and history repeats... >;-)
lol weebs
Such _rude_ comments!
What's wrong with all of you!?
Apparently some people just jump the gun and don't bother to read below the cut on some comments...
I assure you we read the "hidden" part of the comment, hence the made comments
You're... SO right.
Great analysis, that is!
This whole soundtrack is a reminder to all memes. Let this be a leason to all, this game gave me the inspiration to make Top 100, Top 300, and Top 500 internet meme videos.
Thou shall go no further beyond inspiration.
At the very least you can always find art inside games.
Amazing.
...The music keeps playing as if motivating you to keep going...
This game has the best soundtrack ever.
@Supaduck0 The composer is called Flashygoodnes. Go on and look up his website or deviantArt, he has a flash 'music gallery' with plenty more pieces to listen to!
@irockdudeoo7 I'm glad someone else noticed that too, the game's main song sounds just like the opening for Clannad
@MidnightWonko *repeatedly clicks 5:56 * Very nice post you made.
I really like the order of songs that you used. Better than the actual OST track order IMO
the game is balls to the walls difficult, but something about this masterful soundtrack pushes me forward and continues. The game and the music are pure genius.
At first I almost closed this.
But wow. This is actually pretty listenable.
Low bit done nowadays sounds really cool.
Love Cave story and Tower of Heaven pixel tape:P
Obviously the people who watched Senor Chang loved the song and came to see it in all its glory

I certainly haven't yet...I was trying to get that surprise from where you get the "do not walk left" rule.
I LOVE THIS
YES! I'm so glad people liked the soundtrack as much as I did! It's so brilliant!
You are not the only one, this game is art.
You should play Wither :P
i LOVE the piano part at 3:33. its so delicate
Very nice song.
We're waiting...
the feint remix is epic
I've never seen the game in my life and I actually came here from the Community remix, but this is some of the most beautiful music I've ever heard come from a game. Simply amazing.
Swap Indignant Divinity and Luna Ascension, and you are spot on.
After the deaths and despair...
hating on call of duty is easy.
I played the flash yesterday, it was an excellent game. And the music was beautiful, for an 8-bit like. :D But I'm up to level 11 right now.
the best thing ever!
3:18 to 4:26 just gives me the chills.. I love it :P
Hope you don't Mind I've quoted your comment on my facebook status, because you make an amazing point.
the music was the only thing that kept me from ragequitting
atop the world piano is my favorite
Games like this one are the best kind, and maybe the book shattering means something?
I don't know why people are calling it THAT hard. I beat it within 20 or so minutes, though that is long for a game so short. I'd call it tricky, maybe challenging, but it just takes patients. Still, quite artistic, and of course, amazing soundtrack.
I freaking love this music, it reminds me of the good ole gameboy days :D
i'm pretty sure that while running it, the oggs appear in the same directory as the exe.
This game made me into a man.
God damn, this music. Fuck yes.
i just wish the secret ending song were here. i loved it so much, and it was well worth getting the secrets. the orchestrated version is simply beatiful

Oops, I meant Indignant Divinity.
holy crap around 1:50 the low rumble sounded like the sound before a windows BSOD, scared the jesus out of me.
Love this music,
