Awesome! Really sticking with it as any business owner is key. Too many people think you just open a business and immediately makes tons of money. I also agree have several revenue streams adds up as well as securing that you don’t have all your money coming from one source if that source has a downturn. My first year as a candle refail store is coming up and I have been very pleased with the first year. Better the expected results and should see continued steady growth for year 2. Wade gives good advice!

Thanks! This was properly about revenue. My gross margins are around 80%. This last year I did a ton of reinvesting back into channel and getting two new locations though.

I think another reason your RPM is so high is because you respond to pretty much every comment on every platform you have. Your long time viewers know you truly want to help and know they will get a response from you, building relationship and increasing engagement... not that engagement is the goal on your end. But it does make viewers more inclined to comment if they know you'll respond. Speaking from personal experiance, I never really comment on other TH-cam videos haha just yours lol

We've been trying to get our fledgling candle business in the UK off the ground, but struggle, as I am sure many others do, in managing production and earning a living. In particular, a video showing product types, favorites, margins, etc would really help! Although I can make a reasonable container candle now, I still struggle a bit with wicking, especially wood wicks. (test test test test) However, the real pitfall for us is simply not knowing what to make and how far ahead of a season, do we need to be. Hence Option#1, please!! Great video, can you please do a more in-depth video of your candle business. What are the best selling products and how much did you make from them? Is it worth selling accessories like wick trimmer etc? Are wooden wick candles more profitable or cotton or does it not make a difference? Wax melts? More of how you obtain these accounts and the most effective way to get them. Such as pricing/what type of scents do you offer. Do you offer your private/white label scents that you already use in your line? shipping and basically walk through of all of those type of things.

That's all great information and numberwize (if that's a word) it sounds really good but I'd like to see that compared to the costs and how that all shakes out to get an understanding of what a fledgling company "could" make. Example, if you are reinvesting what you earn off of TH-cam, what would be a good number to roll back into the business? How much of all those numbers was spent on products and equipment and rent etc. Then at the end of the day, were you able to earn a decent living? Actually, this info in percentages would be quite insightful to know more of a strategy to go on. Maybe something like this as second part to this video would be great too! Thank you so much for sharing and your time to do this, I really appreciate it!!
Hey Nancy. Yah I plan to do a much more detailed one on all that info. Just wanted to get a summarized one out first about revenue streams. But to answer your question, my margins are good overall at around 70% Gross PM and the other streams are nearly 100% minus the time I invest of course. But overall 75-85% GPM (meaning after cogs). My net PM minus all normal general expenses and overhead varies between 20 and 40% which is above average. But you really can't compare that between business because of structure and other differences. For example, I made way less net this year because of all the relocating and purchasing equipment and tons of reinvesting. With that I still make 6 figures... but others could definitely do it better and easier than I did because no one would normally spend as much as I did in 2022. 🤣
I'm a leather crafter but man, your videos really want me to make candles now too. I'd love to get one of your leather candles to try out, I was sad to see you're out of stock. I'm curious if it would pass my nose test, I know the smell of a good leather. lol
Do you happen to have a video that has an exact breakdown recommendation for supplies for someone making their very first candle? I would love to purchase the correct supplies without making mistakes on purchases. Thanks for all your videos!
I would love more information about TH-cam. Also, what type of wax would be better to use if you are trying to scale up. Soy is super time consuming, especially if you have to fix those tops. I find it takes too much time. Thank you!
How much volume are you doing? Some waxes are really only an option if doing large volume (at least its easier at volume). But there are good options either way

Great video, can you please do a more in-depth video of your candle business. What are the best selling products and how much did you make from them? Is it worth selling accessories like wick trimmer etc? Are wooden wick candles more profitable or cotton or does it not make a difference? Wax melts? Etc etc.
I am working to build a luxury line and just looking to know what makes the best products for sales

More of how you obtain these accounts and the most effective way to get them. Such as pricing/what type of scents do you offer. That's all great information and numberwize (if that's a word) it sounds really good but I'd like to see that compared to the costs and how that all shakes out to get an understanding of what a fledgling company "could" make. Example, if you are reinvesting what you earn off of TH-cam, what would be a good number to roll back into the business? How much of all those numbers was spent on products and equipment and rent etc. Then at the end of the day, were you able to earn a decent living? Actually, this info in percentages would be quite insightful to know more of a strategy to go on. Maybe something like this as second part to this video would be great too!

Hey Nancy. Yah I plan to do a much more detailed one on all that info. Just wanted to get a summarized one out first about revenue streams. But to answer your question, my margins are good overall at around 70% Gross PM and the other streams are nearly 100% minus the time I invest of course. But overall 75-85% GPM (meaning after cogs). My net PM minus all normal general expenses and overhead varies between 20 and 40% which is above average. But you really can't compare that between business because of structure and other differences. For example, I made way less net this year because of all the relocating and purchasing equipment and tons of reinvesting. With that I still make 6 figures... but others could definitely do it better and easier than I did because no one would normally spend as much as I did in 2022. 🤣
Job satisfaction must be a HUGE plus! Most of us other makers still work for someone else full time!! Totally worth it I'm sure!! 👍

Great video, I have been wondering if you were just using candles as platform to be TH-camr and promote products.
I would love more information about TH-cam. Also, what type of wax would be better to use if you are trying to scale up. Soy is super time consuming, especially if you have to fix those tops. I find it takes too much time. Thank you!
How much volume are you doing? Some waxes are really only an option if doing large volume (at least its easier at volume). But there are good options either way
