Thank you so much for posting the comparison between the Raspberry Pi 4 and 5. I am so excited to get my RPI 5. The Sega Saturn is one of my favourite retro consoles and the performance on the RPI 5 looks amazing and with upscaling even better. I will definitely be installing Recalbox when mine arrives. 😀
I'm really enjoying Saturn emulation on Pi5 Recalbox since using it myself. But as Yabasanshiro's compatibility is limited, are we going to see a newer version of that or perhaps see another Saturn emulator added in a future stable update?

I am a complete novice with this so I was wondering if somebody could help me. I have a raspberry pi 5 and the latest version of Recalbox but I can't get GameCube, Dreamcast or Saturn running. I have downloaded bios files for them and put them in the bios folder but it still doesn't work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
I think it's the "usual" HLE Yabause mod (Yabasanshiro2) core, judging from the fps performance: this emu/core runs well quite a noticeable number of SS games, BUT the perfect SS emulator (Mednafen - Retroarch Beetle core) requires 5-6 times more horsepower to run in full speed ("60fps") mode, something I hardly believe R5 is able to achieve (just to give you some concrete data for the required power for full speed SS emulation, something in 500.000 Antutu score range).
Incredibile pertormaces, seems that at least always a 2x is possibile (mean 640x480) , rhe only game i didn t see upscaled is sega rally, but who are full in saturn game emulation usually say "if segarally work, any other gsme work", maybe a test at 2x will be great to check if it is still playable. All the other games seems that work perfectly between 720 and 1080 that is great. With this almost all the console up to the "128bit" geberation are playble (still check how perform with ps2) but agait, if saturn emulation is fine, almost all up to dreamcast and psp will work fine with some sort of upscalig

Graphics from Guardian Heroes seem quite too equal either upscaled/not, as a game that often stuttered even on original hardware due to its large amount of sprites I'd recommend to run in native resolution (or 720p) to achieve a more fluid gameplay.
it's not exactly false reporting; the FPS counter isn't measuring the game's internal rendering frame rate, but instead the refresh rate of the console, so 30 fps games running at full speed will read 60 (well, 59.97). anything lower indicates poor emulator performance.
I thought the same thing too. Wipeout is one of those titles that was very "slideshow" right out of the gate. I was curious to see if the emulation and processor could improve performance but because it's emulating what the original performance should be, it may not be able to render more frames. It would be interesting to see if there were some way to tweak emulation to increase performance of games that originally ran sub-30 fps. That would also be hugely helpful for games on the n64 like GoldenEye that had an awful framerate and moments of slowdown.
@@s8ist420 OG SS Wipeout runs at 20 fps (OG Psx version is 30 fps) "thanks" to Perfect development skills, same happens in Wipeout 2097/XL.... n64 GoldenEye multiplyer "runs" lower than 10 fps (I saw a video of it running at 8 fps on OG N64 hw).

Great video, I hate running Sega Saturn on my Pi4, Pi5 running 60 FPS + upscaling means a nobrainer upgrade

On Pi5 did you really just run Saturn with no configuration changes? Panzer Dragoon doesn’t run well for me at all.

Wipeout isn't running at 60fps. Odd to me that the emulator would falsely report that. Also, you sound a bit like John Malcovich lol.
